Matfen Hall Hotel, Golf Course And Spa

Wow wow wow! Absolutely stunning place. Stayed in room 3 in the older part of hotel. It was mahoosive! Double bathroom and fantastic suite. My only gripe is tv could have bigger for the size of room. The food was outstanding and presented beautifully. Staff could not have been more helpful. Clean, swanky and old at the same time. Highly recommended. Looking to book my 50th party here. Thank you

Wow what can I say perfect from checking in to checking out. Lovely surroundings, amazing hotel, bedroom very comfortable and everything you needed to hand. Spa and leisure facilities were great and the staff were exceptionally polite and very friendly. Only one small negative was receiving our cooked breakfast while we were still eating our cereal. But the food was delicious 😋 had evening meal and breakfast in the Library and the staff were very attentive. We will definitely be back!

We were here with a lot of people from Holland to celebrate the wedding of our daughter and her English partner. For the Dutchies it was a dream to be part of a real English wedding.. it was amazing. The surrounding, the weather, the staff, the rooms. Thank you. This day will stay in our memory as a real fairy tale.

We booked around midday on a Friday after an horrendous week at work and deciding we needed to treat ourselves to a little bit of quality downtime. One of only a few double rooms available we took up the DB&B rate. Arriving around 7pm and planning to leave around 9am the next day there was no opportunity to use the spa facilities. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and surrounded by the golf course. Dinner was served in the library, the food was exquisitely presented, the wine spectacular and the service was first class. It was like stepping back in time to when these were the things that really mattered and overall it was a very relaxing evening. Breakfast was also served in the library and although we waited a little longer than expected for tea and toast to come to the table it was probably one of the better full English breakfasts we have had in a while. The best thing about it was excellent value for money not all hotels of this quality offer a DB&B rate so we will be back.

Was fantastic from start to finish. Had a lovely stay, massage was very good & the relaxtion room was so fab i fell asleep. Rooms comfortable and had everything. Food was nice wait was very long in resturant but staff made you feel so welcome. Staff are very friendly and hardworking. Will defo return �

My husband and I stayed for one night. The menu for the Library restaurant was sufficient enough to choose from. Big choice of wines. The restaurant was relaxed. Our room was warm and a good size. We never took up any of treatments as just happy to relax from late afternoon through to evening. Restaurant and Reception staff were professional and always happy to help.

Me and my husband had a great spa day yesterday. Enjoyed the massage, facilities and the afternoon tea. Well worth a try and I’m looking forward to doing it again soon 👍😀

I just had a gorgeous, laid back hen weekend here and it was perfect. The staff are lovely and the facilities are a dream. Can’t wait to visit again!

Had afternoon tea, usually can’t have anything due to having an egg allergy, and Matfen Hall were extremely accommodating and gave me everything without egg, even egg free scones! Beautiful!!

Great Golf course nice and open for beginners but still some tricky aspects to keep you entertained

Fantastic from start to finish. Had a mother & daughter spa break amazing to say the least. Professional and friendly staff. Beautifully kept room & grounds. Such a relaxing break. Food was 5*. Can't wait to visit again. Loads of extras to make it special for your stay.

A return visit which didn't disappoint. Lovely grounds, well appointed rooms, fantastic food but yet again the staff makes it. Nothing is too much trouble, every single member of staff was cheery, friendly and genuine. It must be a great place to work judging by the staff! Treatments lovely too. Brilliant weekend in a lovely hotel. Highly recommended

We went to Maften Hall yesterday as it was my husbands birthday, we have been before for food and to stay, our meal was lovely and I had bought cupcakes and given them to the waiter to bring out after our dinner, I didn’t expect him to put them on a plate and brought out a pot of cream, they sang happy birthday which was lovely and on the plate it said happy birthday as they told the chef and he decorated the plate a really nice touch and much appreciated.

Staff were all fantastic unfortunately our bedding hadn’t been changed and we didn’t realise this untill we were about to go to bed bloody stains and a dirty hanky found under the pillow food wasn’t served how we ordered it as blood on my husbands plate makes him sick and ordered a bottle of wine which they had run out of lovely waitress recommended another which was beautiful but were still charged for the more expensive one reception staff were fantastic and the night porter changed our bedding we will be back but hopefully housekeeping has increased there standards to match the rest of the staff 😁

Staff in spa area were great and lovely environment to relax . Mt daughter and I had a massage and went to relaxation room beforehand. It wasn't relaxing as 2 other ladies were talking loudly. Treatments were lovely but after we were told to go downstairs and we're promised a glass of water. However we were ushered straight out as it was near 6 pm and they obviously wanted to get away. In other places you would always get a glass of water after a treatment. So I feel matfen left us down here. They should factor this time into treatment.

And for that reason I would not return

Rooms are starting to look dated, with bathroom facilities in need of a refresh.

Food fantastic in Library on the evening, but no room in there at 9:30 in the morning because a wedding party was in. This means if the hotel is full you will struggle a breakfast time. Had breakfast in the Conservatory and the staff were really helpfull. Overall service and hotel was good, but time for a revamp I think to keep your star rating.
