Matt Horne Pottery

A few weeks ago I had a commission to make these pots for a cruise ship restaurant (largest being 55cm tall). I really struggled with huge blisters and bubbling in the red slip during the glaze firing - which obviously ruined the pots.

These pots are a very exciting commission for a cruise ship 🛳😁 They're also some of the most challenging pieces I've made, with the biggest being 62cm tall and 16lb of porcelain. I've had far too many failures in the past making large porcelain pots in two pieces, so these were made from one piece. After making 25 miniatures, then comes 25 pedestals! Because Crystalline glazes are so runny during firing, these are needed to catch the glaze that runs off the pot. I throw these off the hump to save time. Each one has to be measured so they fit the pot exactly.
