Middleton Hall & Gardens

About Middleton Hall & Gardens

Middleton Hall is a Grade II* listed historic house with formal gardens, SSSI and rural retail centre located in the North Warwickshire countryside. Since 1980 it has been looked after by an independent charity, Middleton Hall Trust (charity no. 1101315)

Middleton Hall & Gardens Description

The Hall spans seven centuries of English domestic architecture and is set in 42 acres of tranquil grounds which include a beautiful walled garden, an orchard, Middleton Lake and a nature trail.

Middleton Hall Trust was established 37 years ago by a group of intrepid volunteers to save and restore the then dilapidated Hall. Their hard work now means that these lovely buildings and grounds can now be enjoyed by all of us.

The Hall is open every Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 1st April and 2nd October this year.

The Hall is also available for private, parties and weddings, please contact the Hall, on the number listed during office hours, for further information.

Despite the cold weather and high water levels at the start of the week, our RSPB-led volunteers managed to catch sightings of a pair of grey wagtail, a small flock of goldfinch and several long-tailed tits and wrens among many other birds around Middleton Pool. They'll be heading out again next month and will keep us updated.

Our volunteers are always keen to learn more about Middleton Hall’s rich history. Today we took some of our new volunteers on a tour of our grounds and gardens ending up in our Grade II-listed Walled Garden, built in 1717.

Yesterday, we made a visit to Winterbourne House and Garden in Birmingham to explore their incredible site. We were guided around by the site manager who shared his wealth of knowledge and experience with us. Visits like these help the Middleton Hall & Gardens team gain valuable tips and new inspiration for how to improve our site for visitors. #winterbournehg #birminghamheritage #UoB #studyday #history #heritage #inspired University of Birmingham @ Winterbourne House and Garden

Very excitingly, we are off to RHS Chatsworth this year! Our senior gardener Paul has had his design commissioned for the Long Border competition and he and some our volunteers will be heading to Chatsworth to plant up the show border. We are looking for sponsors to join us on the journey to help us make it happen. It will be a fantastic opportunity to interact with the thousands of visitors who attend Chatsworth every year, raising your profile along with ours. As a sponsor you will feature heavily on all our publicity material, social media and press interactions. If you or your business are interested, please get in touch with enquiries@middleton-hall.co.uk for more information. #middletonhallatchatsworth #visitmiddleton #historichouse #historicgardens #rhschatsworth #rhs #chatsworthhouse #longbordercompetition

Remembering the Restoration: Week 8
Popping into our second-hand bookshop is an essential part of any visit to Middleton Hall & Gardens. Did you know our bookshop has been welcoming visitors since 1985? The first photograph was taken in 1977 before the Trust had taken over the running of the Hall.
When the Trust came to restore the Book Room and the Ballroom (next door), they found that all of the original wooden floor boards had completely rotted. The original Georgian corn...ices in both rooms were in tact and survive today.
The second photograph shows volunteer, Betty sitting proudly in the second-hand book shop. She has been volunteering with us since the late 1980s.

Our volunteers are hard at work again today. From clearing out the Tudor Barn to jet-washing the front of the Hall, planting snowdrops in the glade to deep cleaning the kitchen, our team are absolutely fantastic.
We are closed to the public until 31st March 2019 (Plant Hunters’ Fair), but there’s lots going on behind the scenes to keep Middleton marvellous.

Sutton Coldfield Marquetry Group are hosting the 67th International Marquetry Exhibition at Middleton Hall & Gardens in May 2019. The exhibition will include up to 200 examples of the very best of contemporary marquetry within the British lsles and it is also open to overseas exhibitors. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try their hand at this skillful craft.
Marquetry is the art or craft of making pictures and enriching other articles of wood with decorative designs... by the skillful use of the grain, figure and colour of wood veneers. An item of marquetry is built up by inlaying the separate parts of the picture or design into a background wood veneer. The completed item of work is then glued to a prepared base board or background, and the finished surface sanded and finally polished.
In addition to the competition entries, you will be able to see marquetry work carried out by Tony Jacklin, the professional golfer, best known in this area for his success as European Ryder Cup captain at the nearby Belfry Golf Course. Jacklin is an avid marquetarian and he has agreed for some of his work to be shown in special display at the exhibition.
Opening times
Thursday 25th May - Thursday 30th May, 11am – 4pm. Last admissions at 3pm. Thursday 30th, exhibition displayed AM only.
Admission
£6.60 Gift Aid Adult, £6.00 Standard Adult, free for U16s and Middleton Hall & Gardens season pass holders.
We encourage visitors to make a £3 donation to park on your arrival, however, this is optional and donations of any size are welcomed. All donations go directly to the Trust to help us maintain and develop the site.
Please note:
Your entrance fee gives you access to the Hall, gardens and grounds between 11am – 4pm. If you fancy a bite to eat or want to visit the shops at The Courtyard at Middleton Hall, you can come in and out as you please, just keep hold of your admission tickets. (Coffee shop open 7 days a week, 9:30am-4:30pm, shops open Wednesday-Sunday, 10am-4pm). We do not offer a ‘Grounds Only’ admission fee. Access to the gardens and grounds is included in your standard admission. Dogs are allowed in the gardens and grounds, guide dogs only in the house. Thank you so much to the manager and staff at Middleton Hall who helped to make moms 80th birthday afternoon tea yesterday so special for her. She said everything was perfect and the place, food and staff were fantastic.

User

Really such a gem. The web page doesn't give it justice really as this is such a beautiful place. You could be anywhere, nature at its best, especially for bird lovers too.

The food forecourt is superb. A posh fish finger sandwich, was proper home made and tasted divine. We were pushed for time so will return to check out the hall.

User

My family and I attended the heritage day. We had a fantastic time. My granddaughter enjoyed all the free activities (as did we!). Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable about their area of skill and history. A very enjoyable day, despite the weather!

User

It is constantly evolving with amazing restoration and gardening work done by volunteers and a small professional staff. The Hall is a delight with many buildings adapted to contain The Peel museum and history rooms. The Courtyard is a thriving hub of small businesses and the grounds and walled gardens are simply amazing.

User

User

Four generations of family now attending Middleton Hall's May Day celebrations. There were fourteen of us this year! We have been visiting this little gem of a hall since they first opened it to the public, as a ruin almost. We have watched it grow and blossom over the years and thanks to the many volunteers it now has so much to offer. For ages 2-102! Keep it up!

User

Beautiful place - can't wait to go back when I'm not working (only been once when I did a stall at their Sunday Craft Fair)! Lovely to just wander around, have a mooch in the main buildings and in the little shops and something to eat and drink in the courtyard café :)

User

Beautiful historic building , craft show was cute , what you'd expect - lovely court yard for a cuppa and lunch -,they do a grand job volunteering to restore this hall , hats off to them all .

We bought a cottage not far from here and we needed to find out more info on its history and a lovely couple of ladies pointed us in the right direction thank you

User

Although I lived my child and part of adult life in tamwoth I have only been once, great day out. Will visit again when back in the UK.

User

A very pretty hall with a lot to do there and masses of history. I would say ideal for weddings too but I didn't attend one there.

User

A great place to visit for a lovely day out. Historic buildings in the process of being renovated, beautiful grounds and gardens and a lovely courtyard full of little independent shops and craftsmen. We love it here.

User

We went as a group (U3A) and were pleasantly surprised to find such an interesting property so local to us, which we had not visited before. The talk was very good and the freedom to wander the grounds and gardens was enjoyed by all.

User

Met some friends here for a picnic with our children. Its a small place but really pretty.

Trails were good but the displays inside the house a bit tired and dated and fusty and dusty.. the volunteers were very interesting and my son had a go spinning wool and weaving. The ladies in that room were very welcoming. The garden was beautiful. The courtyard was lovely and the lady in the ale n cheese barn was great and informative about her produce. Lovely gin thanks. Lovely afternoon out and pleasantly surprised didn't have to pay to park .

User

I enjoyed the the house and gardens....beautiful. It was a shame there were not more stalls though. I was a little disappoint with the cheese and ale barn. I was looking at the goods, but wasn't spoke too or asked what I was interested in. I would say to friends worth a visit though

User

Great little place.. nice cafe.. nice few little craft shops jam and cheese locally made quite nice. The walk is at the back of the shops not as signed posted at the front by the hall. Should change it as confusing... walk nice to.
