Over the next 6 months we will be documenting one of the most skilled 15 year old’s on the British bmx circuit Finley Clark from the twisted concepts team. Following his journey as we work closely to build a stronger more efficient rider and show what our protocol can do for increasing a riders performance when on the bike.

End of summer testing yesterday with Grandad P.
It’s never too old to train and reduce the rate of ageing, for many it’s just an excuse.
The net effect of the reduction in muscle mass is a loss of muscle strength – as much as 2% per year, so that by the age of 70, strength is reduced by up to 40%, though this depends on the individual and also their activity levels. Training helps prevent these reductions, which is good news, and is the part of the equation that you can control.

What a great way to see @itsnotluke finish off the season with a 1st place @rockingham_circuituk after making some good progress in what short time we have been working together. 🥇🚴🏽‍♂️💨💪🏽

Always focus on mastering the skill of each exercise before adding external load.
Taking your time on nailing down the basics is key to long term development. 🤙🏽

The feet, ankles, and toes are one of the most neglected areas of the body when it comes to training, performance, and fitness. In addition, most individuals including advanced athletes have various forms of foot and ankle dysfunction. Unfortunately without proper foot and ankle mechanics it’s literally impossible to perform any lower body movement correctly as you’re reducing performance while increase the risk of injury. Once you learn to clean up your foot and ankle mechanics you’ll notice a tremendous improvement not only in your performance, strength, and stability, but also in your joint health.

User

Long term development sometimes gets overlooked by quick progression. Worry about yourself not others.

User

You don't have to be consistently great but you do have to be great at being consistent.
I can’t talk about enough when your striving for better things. 🤙🏽

User

We have always been a strong believer that starting kids early with strength and conditioning helps development in all areas not just sport. Just make sure the programme you choose is safe, movement is key over the load lifted looking at long term development over short terms gains. 🤩

User

As with anything no quick fix will last like long term development of a individual or athlete. Commit and build something that lasts. 🙌🏽

Great way to finish off the season @t.e.knight 👌🏾🥇 ・・・ Solid day in the saddle today. Took the big W at RD6 of the @midlands_xc series and also placed second overall for the entire series 🏆 Great way to end the season! Thanks to everyone for their support along the way, family, friends, @kdjapic @halowheels @isondistribution @nateparsons_sc @odigrips and @htcomponents. This one's for you 🤙

It’s still early days for @itsnotluke after 6 weeks of strength training but already seeing progression. Pb’s during yesterday’s testing session on the wattbike. 🚴🏽‍♂️💨

This is a great variation of the hip hinge otherwise known as a RDL. This can help if your struggling to grasp the technique using a Barbell
Repost @methodicalmovementsystem ・・・ Cable Pull Throughs... . A Cable Pull Through is a useful alternative to the more conventional hip hinge exercises (RDLs, Good Mornings, Kettlebell Swings, etc). . This is also a nice way of reducing the load on the spine, and increasing load on the hip extensor musculature.

Starting strength training for young athletes: An Overlooked Long-Term Athletic Development Competitive Advantage.
All athletic qualities are important, but to say that they should all be trained equally at all times - especially in young athletes with a huge window of adaptations in front of them - is extremely short-sighted. Imagine a child that tried to take math, science, and history courses before mastering language skills. If you can't read and write, you will struggle to pick up these more progressive challenges. Strength is foundational in this same way.

Great to catch-up with @ava.br0wn this week for some testing after her great result at the Euro’s. Not really surprising that her numbers were way up with her strong work ethic. 😎💪🏽

Ball slams can be done in a variety of angles; whether to the side as this video shows performed by @bmxgirl4 , front, in an arcing pattern, and more. The ability to contract the hip flexors, abdominals, and obliques through a full range of motion can help to engage and promote explosive and controlled movements throughout the torso. This controlled contractions and force production throughout the core can increase power development and spinal stability while on motion, each vital to strength, power, and sport athletes during loaded and unloaded movements.

There is plenty of research proving the benefits of strength training for cyclists. An increased power output, better lactate removal and energy metabolism plus a decrease in back pain and injury risk. But if you are new to gym work how do you start? Contact me if you need any help or would like some further advice in getting started.

Only last week was I having a good chat with @c.bosse about what age is safe to start lifting weights. Parents seem to forget that children are at more risk of injury just playing from day to day. Running, jumping, tackling and climbing will put the child under far more load than lifting Barbells in a controlled environment. Start them young and let them develop and learn the basics well. Great post by @australianstrengthcoach 🙌🏽 ・・・ What age is the right age to start learning... how to move? Well, according to my uncles, neighbours, cousins boss who knows a doctor, lifting weights is dangerous and you shouldn’t do it before the age of 18 and until then, there should be no running, jumping, picking things things up off the ground or anything strenuous because we all know that’s not what young bodies are designed to do. Well anyway, here’s my 8 year old daughter lifting very sub maximal loads with balanced, symmetrical weights with comfortable handles in a controlled environment under the watchful eye of someone who works with a team of movement specialists, physiotherapists and elite athletes. And if you think that this is more challenging for her than the unsupervised running, jumping, crawling, tackling and messing around in the playground at her school that she’s about to do, you are sadly mistaken. This is 15kg for 3 reps but she really just wanted to send a video to her Icelandic buddy to show how cool she looks in her new jumper 😎 #strengthandconditioning #sport #performance #technique #process #youth #coaching #injuryprevention #australianstrengthcoach #strengthsystem #deadlift #followthesystem

Exercise selection, sets, reps, rest periods, tempo, coaching are all critical to maximise the training response BUT training consistently (& hard) trumps ALL! Consistency is something that requires 100% commitment ✅

When I went to see Nathan I was in constant pain in my lower back. After an assessment, Nathan discussed the problem with me and how it can be solved. After 3 sessions, I have seen great improvement, and now, 4 weeks after starting my training with Nathan, I am almost pain free. My posture has improved and my week muscles are getting stronger with every session. Nathan's skills and knowledge are helping me to get my mobility back and ultimately enables me to ride my bike pain free. Highly recommended!

User

Over the last 18 months Nathan has literally taught me to ride a bike!!

After deciding to try a new sport, thinking 'how hard can it be to ride a bike' !!!

Nathan has patiently and professionally helped be not only improve my fitness as well as technique. But also allowed be to gain a stronger understanding of how my body reacts in different situations.

He consistently adapts my sessions in line with my goals or more importantly assesses when changes need to be made in line with the stresses of life, ensuring continual progression occurs.

As an elite athlete his knowledge and experience of training is both exceptional and comforting. This in line with his ability to transfer this experience to an over keen novice such as myself, makes for a fun and rewarding journey.

Highly recommended.

Nathan helped me to get more out of riding my bike and pushed me to reach goals sooner than I thought I would be able to

User

I went to see nate after suffering from knee problems for years & years. After a full assessment nate has me on the road to recovery & I'll soon be back on my bike

User

I visited Nate after 10 months of ignoring an ankle injury. Just 4 weeks after our first session I stopped wearing an ankle brace and support, my pedalling got stronger, my riding became more confident and I can get back to pushing my boundaries rather than backing off! Nate is very responsive to questions and provides support outside the gym too.

User

Highly recommended for road and MTB training to strengthen and improve performance.

Structured roller sessions have increased my sprinting and overall fitness which were tailored specifically for 4X and BMX racing.

Nathan's highly motivational attitude will make you want to succeed!
