Our risk for depression and anxiety is higher during the time around menopause. This may be caused by changing hormones, menopausal symptoms, or both. If you have symptoms of depression or anxiety, see your doctor.
What you can do; •Sleep: Lack of sleep is linked to depression aim for 7-8 hours a night. •Exercise: Get at least 30 minutes of physical activity on most days of the week it is proven to help with depression. ... •Limit alcohol: A moderate amount of alcohol for women is one drink a day, and no more than seven drinks in a week. •Lower stress: Set limits for how much you take on. Look for positive ways to unwind and ease daily stress. Try relaxation techniques, reading a book, spending some quiet time outdoors, or other healthy ways to unwind.

Make sunglasses your favorite summer accessory. Sunglasses shield your eyes from UV rays that can cause eye problems, like cataracts. Pricey sunglasses don't guarantee better protection. Look for a pair that says it blocks 99% or 100% of UVB and UVA rays.

There are many ways to remind yourself to regularly exercise your pelvic floor muscles. Either a phone reminder, post it notes placed near regularly visited spots, for example, TV, computer, kettle, fridge or car. If not, there is an app that can be downloaded. Look up Squeezy App on your app store. www.squeezyapp.co.uk

We had a very hot pelvic floor class today, which prompted us to remind our ladies to drink fluids regularly throughout the day. Due to many of us not enjoying plain tap water, we offered up the idea of flavouring the water. As lemons, limes and oranges are citrus, so best avoided, we offered up the idea of slices of cucumber. It makes refreshing drink. Enjoy the weather, keep cool and wear the sunscreen.

Recently our very own Sally took part in a tennis tournament at Northwood Park in Cowes, as part of a charity event to save the six existing courts. This was followed by a Hog Roast and music. The event raised over £2,500 towards new fences which is their first goal. She is proud to say her pelvic floor held up well during her three hours of tennis and very active dancing in the evening!

Another post from Liv:
After the menopause, women are more prone to osteoporosis - a natural reduction in the quality of our bones. To help reduce the impact that this can have, we should aim to do strengthening exercises twice a week. This exercise doesn't have to be vigourous, but can include: walking, cycling, dancing, resistance training.
Stay active and have fun!

We all had lots of fun at our Womens Health Open Day recently. The event was well attended and provided an opportunity for our guests to chat to our team, meet our wonderful expert patients and gain more information from all the other services that gave their time to attend. As you can see we had a yummy cake stall. Nearly all the cakes were sold, raising money towards new equipment for our treatment room.

A post from Liv... Walking on tip toes or squeezing our calf muscles can help us to delay an urgent need to pee, helpful if our bladder is misbehaving.
Let’s show that bladder who’s boss!
***Please be aware that in some cases, such as if you have a UTI, it is important to empty your bladder as and when you need to, as holding it in can worsen your symptoms***

Did you know... we should drink 24ml of fluid per kg bodyweight every day? For example, a 75kg person should be drinking 1.8L every day! So, if you're Walking The Wight, remember your water bottle and GOOD LUCK!

Remember to pop in and see us between 10am and 1pm tomorrow!

A fact from Liv:
Did you know that our chances of experiencing bladder problems and/or prolapse can be affected by genes passed down from our Mums and Grandmas?
There are a number of ways we can help to prevent or reduce any associated symptoms, the earlier we start, the better!
