Project Dragonfly, Fpv Racing Description

OPENING SOON

PROJECT DRAGONFLY's main aim as with all our clubs is to bring people from all areas of our Island community together in a friendly, competitive environment with value for money as our main driver.

PROJECT DRAGONFLY is committed to being at the forefront of bringing this sport to the Isle of Wight, providing safe arenas both in and outdoors at our MICRO CLASS venue in Newport as well as our field and woodland tracks in Shorwell, so we can come together as a community to train, compete, meet new friends and of course create some great memories

WHAT IS FPV DRONE RACING?

Drone Racing is a new supercharged competitive racing sport. Pilots fly quad-copter drones through three-dimensional courses at speeds up to 120mph. drones are RTF (ready to fly) or custom built for speed, agility, and performance. Pilots steer from the point of view of the drone by wearing First Person View (FPV) goggles that display a live image transmitted by an on board camera. Flying a drone competitively at high speed in FPV is an intense, immersive experience.

WHAT MAKES A GREAT PILOT?

With heart-pounding speed flying through lines with mathematical precision, pulling a roll or a flip next to unforgiving objects or through small gaps. floating with soft lines and graceful curves, and split second seat-of-the-pants line creation and lightning fast acrobatic moves.

HOW HARD IS IT TO RACE A DRONE?

Most camera drones use on board sensors to continually stabilise flight and keep the craft balanced. These components by definition prevent the drone from rolling or flipping too aggressively. Racing drones require aggressive manoeuvrability, so they function in an unassisted mode known as rate mode. This makes them incredibly fast and agile – but also more difficult to control. While it can take months of practice to master, rate mode allows skilled pilots complete freedom to perform aerobatic moves and tricks.

HOW DO I GET STARTED?

If you’re just getting started, we recommend starting with a ‘micro’ class FPV drone setup such as the Makerfire BNF Micro FPV or Blad Inductrix. They are relatively inexpensive, can be flown indoors, and are able to withstand crashes. There are various products as a starting point. Some have a small screen on the transmitter that displays the view from the on board camera, but can be upgraded to work with true FPV goggles. As you get more into the sport you will want to start building your own more powerful drone with higher performance components and join us on our bigger tracks. . .

Gang, all things FPV have been on hold for us as we took on the mamouth task of converting an abandoned warehouse into a venue that could house the many activities 4D SPORTS have a passion for. Tiny whoop micro racing is just one of those activities and we are always looking for the next thing to compliment what we already offer. Tiny whoover is a perfect fit as it uses existing FPV Whoop tech in the craft so will also work with our existing lap system. Also unlike flying we will be able to offer rental on the kit, which means a very affordable entry before you commit to buy your own. Sweet! Just what we have been looking for ;) and with 10500 square feet of floor space, we will be taking whoover racing to the next level...x

I’ve not posted for while gang as we’ve been busy as! But thought you might want to know the reason why? Tiny Whoop anyone? It will of course have a Bando feel to it but other than that, this is no Bando, this is ours...x

The building is ours gang! Not the biggest CQB arena in the world, but this one is ours :) 10,000 sq ft over two floors boasting a cafe, shop, air rifle range, Action Air IPSC training area, Shooting simulator, Tiny Whoop FPV race track and of course a dedicated CQB area. Multifunctional is key to how we use the space we have. You will notice evenly spaced steel supports on picture 2 which support the mez deck, rather than hinder us it's allowed us to create a modular wall system so within hours the gameplay can be dramatically altered to keep our members on their toes. 5 v 5 team deathmatch anyone? Lol x @ Newport, Isle of Wight
