Last week, at our day conference at Queen's, more than twenty people participated in a day of rich conversation around the ways in which popular culture - particularly in the forms of film, fiction, jazz and poetry - might act as 'signs of the times', mirroring and shaping contemporary issues, and inviting theological dialogue. Professor Clive Marsh chaired the day, and the panel consisted of Revd Dr Jane Craske, Dr John Lyden, Professor Anthony Reddie and Professor Nicola Slee.

Yesterday's leadership in social justice session was a 'practitioners ' panel. The Revd Cassius Francis (Just Finance Foundation), Revd Cath Holywell (Derbyshire Refugee Solidarity), Graeme Hodge and Claire Welch (All We Can) shared something of their own stories about how they became involved with social justice issues, and how the organisations they are currently involved with aim to address and transform injustice and inequality.

Last week’s leadership in social justice session at Queen’s involved discussion of different approaches to social justice and how they might relate to Christian discipleship. Staff argued convincingly, even though some (Andrew and David) were representing views quite at odds with their own, resulting in an interesting discussion about politics, persuasion and belief.

Congratulations to Queen’s alumni Alfred Grant and Neville Popo, who were ordained in the Wesleyan Holiness Church, one of our sponsoring churches, on Saturday. Queen's alum, including Dorrett Lemon and Conrad Miller, along with tutor Dulcie McKenzie, were there to support them.

Congratulations to former Anglican student Simon Jones who was ordained deacon yesterday at one of the churches he is serving in rural Nottinghamshire. Simon’s ordination was postponed because of family illness, so it was great to see him ordained yesterday, supported by colleagues from his Queen’s cohort. Mark Earey was there to give a hearty ‘It is!’ on behalf of Queen’s when the bishop asked the congregation if it was their will for Simon to be ordained.
