We came across The Roebuck by chance the other weekend, we had been for a walk (four of us) and stopped for a wander round Leek on our way back. We stopped here as it said dogs allowed in the window and we had two huskies with us.

We went in for a drink and were very happy to find we had come on the day of the gin festival they had on. The inside is lovely, very clean and cosy.

We were told by the landlady there were treats on the fire place for the dogs which we thought was a very nice touch and they then brought us water for them as well.

We were looking at the menu just out of interest and my partner who is vegan was very surprised and pleased to find they had a vegan menu so both of us ordered a meal off of it.

There was a little wait for food but we were advised before ordering so didn't mind waiting.

The service was excellent, we felt very welcome and the food was lovely and fresh and we could not fault it. My partner also had a vegan desert which looked lovely!

All of us went away very impressed and will definitely go back when we are in the area again.

Visited this morning with our German Shepherd, we were made extremely welcome, enjoyed our coffees and two slices of toast. Thanks to the very friendly lady from behind the bar who served us, and because of that we will be visiting you again shortly, will try your veggie breakfast

User

Proper nice pub..the way it should be! To all my Cyprus friends wanting to experience a great English pub atmosphere this is the place. Thank you

User

Just popped in for a late lunch and had the halloumi dippers with a portion of chips (made my own veggie fish & chips) and they were in one word "amazing" my partner had the gammon and really enjoyed it....fantastic thanks for making this veggie one very happy veggie (the rest of the veggie menu is also great)

I was really impressed with this pub when I visited it for the first time on Monday eve with my partner.

The front is inviting with that old world look about it.

From the moment I walked in, I had a lovely feel about the place.

The style of the pub was traditional old English yet with a trendy twist. It was sympathetically furnished to retain originality befitting of a public house in this historic market town of Leek.

There was a great selection of traditional English beers on sale and the bar person was very friendly and sociable and made us feel welcome.

We will definitely be visiting this pub again.

User

Great pub with an excellent choice of real ales. Just a pity I was driving later in the evening, otherwise I would have sampled more of the great range.

Friendly helpful staff. Didn't eat there, but the menu looked great.

User

Found this place by accident / in desperation but turned out to be fabulous. Vegan menu with choices!! WoW! (Be even better if choices could be veggie or vegan). Lovely food and presentation. Really friendly and kind staff.

User

Called in with the wife and our cocker spaniel on 10/2/18 for food and drink. Very pleasant folk behind the bar and a friendly girl bringing out the food. Both of us had steak & ale pie with chips peas and gravy, was lovely, tasty and piping hot, just what the doctor ordered on a cold day, washed down with a fantastic pint of plum porter, will definitely return

User

Always love it here... lo e the titanic beers.. plumb porter is gorgeous!

User

Ace pub, good beer goo atmosphere, why aren't you there?

User

Went in yesterday 13th December. Place was fairly quiet ordered 3 meals from the light bite menu. Fish and chips, halloumi burger and bacon brie and cranberry toasted sandwich with chips. We waited 50mins for an order I could have cooked in 15mins. Food was OK in the end but my bread was warm rather than toasted. While there someone left after 45mins as he still did not have food. Nice pub but really need to get the waiting time down your less than 30mins. In the time we waited only when I asked after 40mins were we told would not be long but still another 10mins. Would not go back for food. Xx

User

Fabulous place, fabulous beer but I think there was a staffing meltdown during the time I spent in this rather charming pub.

User

Went for a meal out with my OH and greyhound, this is about the fifth or sixth time of visiting the Roebuck, usually good, but tonight was a serious let down.

1 hour wait for food, which when it did show up my gammon was over cooked, the OH vegan avocado pizza looked terrible and nothing like previous visits, almost like a lasagne spooned on top of the pitta bread ( usually very good and would have been 3rd or 4th time ordering it). Sent it back and i ate alone as we were unwilling to have a further hour wait for a meal.

When asked why they were so late with the meal we were advised large number of orders and 1 chef, we have seen it far busier and still got a decent meal quicker.

Service is rarely prompt here but is within reason. Tonight was a very poor standard and will quite possibly mean that we do not return.

Come on Roebuck, lift your game to where you have previously been.

User

Have been in this pub a few times when visiting Leek but had never had food, today I had ‘halloumi dippers’ starter and the ‘classic bacon and cheese burger’ main. Even though the halloumi dippers are on the menu as a starter they brought these out with the main which was no problem but not what was expected when ordering. On the menu the burger supposedly comes with onion rings and relish it came with one onion ring and no relish. Not what you would expect when spending just under £10.00. Disappointing especially as there was only one other table occupied. Would have told the waiter if he asked, but he didn’t check that the food was okay. Shame.

User

A disappointing visit! A Long wait for the food (which I can understand as busy) but when it came part of my meal was cold & my other half’s had to be sent back as his burger was stone cold!! He was offered a replacement but was then told he would have to go back in the ‘queue’ for food!!! Not on! Waitress was very courteous & helpful & gave us a refund... will be trying elsewhere next time!

User

Went to this pub over the weekend lovely old pub, dogs were allowed. Friendly staff. Food and excuses ruined it.

45 min we was told. Waited 90 mins. Still we were not really in any hurry. But when we got our Sunday roast served up in a soup bowl. Told that's how they do it. But while waiting other customers got plates.

But to have our 2 beef dinners put down in front of us. And it was quite clear to us there was no beef on any of our bowls. Also Yorkshire pudding was the same size has a small roast potato. Was told they had been very busy and we were lucky to get what we got .No excuse for that. We were given a free drink,2 of these drinks were bottled water and seal was already broken.

I never write reviews. But had to this time. Because if you don't know it's broke you can't fix it.

User

One star....wouldn't even give it that! Waited an hour and 15 minutes to be told that our order never went through.....could not organise a night out in a brewery! Staff are completely incompetent.

Regular customers.....now lost. Shame though, gone down hill in the last 6 months. Used to love this pub!

User

Disappointing meal. This place has been recommended by vegetarian and vegan friends. Having called there for a drink on a Saturday afternoon and seeing how busy it was we thought it was well worth another visit to sample the food, particularly when we had heard such good things.

When we arrived we were late but we did try to phone ahead to let them now but there was no answer. Once arriving there was only 1 member of staff working on the 'floor' and although she apologised whilst bringing food out to other customers we waiting 20 minutes to be served a drink and clarify which was our table. Once we sorted this and ordered we waited approx 30mins for food which was majorly disappointing when it came. We ordered lasagne, scampi, halloumi burgers x 2 nd a bean burger off the vegan menu. The bean burger we had to ask twice for the relish and hummus as it was advertised on the menu and the halloumi burgers did not come as per the menu description. The lasagne was solid and the chips were very soft. When one member of the party spoke to a staff member they said that only a kitchen porter was working tonight and that there was no chef which accounts for the food. The only good thing we can really say was the cider (Thistley Ale) went down very well!

User

Bloody hell, 3rd week on the trot we have gone for lunch and yet not managed to sample the food. Pure and simple Saturday lunch time, incompetent staff on duty! Not even got a pint!
