This is us this September! My eldest is off to school (sob!) and although he's familiar with the building as he's been at pre school there I've noticed a slight change in behaviour:
Being told hes now 'A big boy' and off to big school has led to some babyish behaviour (regression) - wanting to be carried, wanting me to dress him, babytalk, clingyness etc and some spectacular meltdowns and resentment towards his little brother, I'm putting this down to anxiety about the change ahead and a fear of becoming "big".

And this is backed up by neuroscience- when children are frightened they go in to self defence mode rather than learning to be a good person which is what we all want for our children. Adopting an attitude of PACE is much more effective 👍🏻❤️🙌🏻

Great little article from Hey Sigmund! We covered this recently in some training we did for teaching staff and parents. Once we get our heads round whats going on physically we can feel so much more empathy for what's going on for our teens psychologically. (And often therefore feel a lot less stressed as parents!👍🏼)
