Going to be paid a visit on Thursday from my mate Mark Bond πͺ π― Sorry mate I couldnβt resist π Will be a great opportunity to get some professional throwing tuition π₯πββοΈ
A few people have asked me about my recent study of the rope dart and chain whip as they arenβt primarily weapons used in the Bujinkan. I thought it was pretty obvious but apparently not so hereβs why π The steel ball in the picture is a Fundo (Thats actually a Hanwei Fundo) which is a heavy weight attached to a chain or rope that you essentially strike and entangle the opponent with. Now i think its safe to say some of the Kusarifundo/Manrikigusari techniques although effect...ive are fairly limited in the Bujinkan to the extent where some Shihan (Daishihan) have trained in other Ryuha to get more extensive training. I met someone a while back who was IMPRESSIVE with the rope dart to say the least, so i started to look into the background and usage of the weapon which in Japan is known as a JuhyΕ. Then was told learn the chain whip first and was given several warnings about breaking my teeth with one π I have come to the conclusion that theirs probably some correlation betweek the two (Chain whip and Kusarifundo) and there is a Chinese variation of the Kusarifundo which comprises of two small grooved mace shaped balls. Attach a Fundo to a rope and its essentially a rope dart, attach a ring to a hooked knife its a Kyoketsu Shoge, it all interlinks. In conclusion yes it has nothing to do with the Bujinkan but it is relevant to martial arts in general and certain aspects of Ninjutsu like the Kusarifundo and Kyoketsu Shoge. To provide an example stage one of learning the rope dart is learning to carry it on a concealed manner (Schlepping the rope dart) and casting it in a concealed manner (Namely stamping on the rope to position the dart/fundo on the top of the foot to kick it out to strike the opponent in the face). I can honestly say its improved my understanding of the use of flexible weapons exponentially so its a relevant evolution although not relevnt to the art itself. π₯πΊ

Sundays are always training days! π Great session earlier in the dojo looking at Taijutsu and some principles of using a Fundo π₯πΊ
Thats cool ππ
Lots of training tackled today π₯ First we had private lessons and covered Battoujutsu and Taijutsu, Then sorting out the next load of Nihonto to be built, followed by the adult lessons at the college at 20:00 ππ₯ We looked at Gyaku Waza tonight πππΌββοΈ
Donβt miss it! πΊππββοΈ
A great man and a great cause! π₯ That Β£10 (or more) that your thinking about getting take away with could be put to better use ππΊπββοΈ

Another private session tackled π₯ I have to admit i enjoy doing 1 to 1βs gives me the chance to really focus on the individuals development π Today was a bit of a stress test for the student and as ever they smashed it! We did a fair amount of pad work, mainly Hoken Juroppo and Keri with a bit of dynamic kicking and a bit chain whip. The key point to remember, dynamic kicking is fun to look at BUT rarely useful in a fight unless you prepare a set up for the kick which generally only happens in movies π Keep it below the waist πββοΈ

One of my students asked me to change the Tsuka Ito on his Paul Chen Ninjato to green and I finally got around to it πβοΈ
