User

Came for fathers day had lovely meal & service expect for 1 waiter who was a bit ignorant when bringing our food...

User

Took our little girl here for Sunday lunch, she was very unsettled this day in particular so I was apprehensive and kept saying to my partner we shouldn't go as she will distururb everyone. To my surprise the staff were all very welcoming and accommodating. She suffers a milk allergy and it was no problem to to make a few changes to the meal of choice to suit her needs. They provided a colouring activity to keep her amused during the wait for food, which wasn't very long at all.

The decor is modern but also keeps in touch with the history of the building. Good size tables, as anyone who has children will know how much space they take up, and comfortable chairs. Plenty of parking surrounding the building and outdoor seating.

Myself and my partner both had the beef topside Sunday dinner. A good size meal, veg cooked perfectly for our liking. My only complaint is a minor one, that one of the slices of beef on my plate was more fatty than you would expect. As much as I understand you get fat running through the meat it shouldn't of really been served to a customer. But the meal on a whole was tasty, generous and all round enjoyable.

No puddings had by us to comment on but will most certainly return soon to give them a go.

Had a lovely meal last night with the family to celebrate sons birthday. Good service and we all enjoyed our meals. Two had set course meals with starters & mains, one had guinea fowl which was delicious although a little dry in parts, the last had the mixed grill which was declared first class. Will definitely be back

User

We decided last minute to take our relative here for her last meal in the UK. We eat here at least once per month and this time let it down so much. The food was amazing apart from one meal, Mine. I had the mixed grill. The steak I couldn't even put my fork into it, it was that tough, it was cooked perfectly. The problem was the quality of the meat. I sent this back and asked for a new one. The waiter didn't listen to me at all before taking it back to the chef. I then heard and saw the commotion at the kitchen door as the front of house manager was summoned to the kitchen to speak with the chef. They replaced my steak and brought it back quickly. The steak was cooked blue and cold in the middle. The manager came back over and said is everything ok? I told her no it wasn't but not to bother telling the kitchen this time as I didn't want the chef having a go at her again for his/her mistake. Front of house where wonderful about the situation. It's a shame the kitchen were so diabolical. Tonight the kitchen let the whole place down. The manager was wonderful and took my meal off he bill and gave me a free desert for the trouble. Meal after meal were coming back to the kitchen cold. I even saw a member of staff put his finger into one of the meals on the way to the table to see if it was hot!!?? Service was rather poor tonight and slow.

User

Food was well presented although plate was severely lacking in vegetables and flavour. It was a shame not to see specials on offer or the more unusual food options that there used to be. My children were very unimpressed by the children's menu, being the usual generic selection you find everywhere, and there was no option to have a smaller adult meal so they ended up having a full size meal (granted there was not much wasted!). Service was helpful and polite.

User

Food was good. Kids enjoyed the play area, despite some clientele ffing and blinding in front of our kids and even there own. Staff were pleasant enough

User

Visited the Running horse last Sunday, not the most enjoyable experience; place was untidy, tables uncleared from earlier diners; staff didn’t seem to know what was going on, Steak was very tough, and overall not worth the money 2/10

User

The beef dinner looked lovely but how disapointing. ...tried to cut the roast pots they were rock hard then to top it all a big black hair was running through my plate...yes they refunded me but it turned my stomache for most of the day .. the waitresses l noticed had long hair yes it was tied back but still very loose ...will not be eating here again.

User

Terrible service. Food came out before drinks even though we ordered drinks 5 minutes prior. Had to asks for drinks that we’ve already ordered at least 3 times before they came. Food was very nice. But the attitude we got off staff was ridiculous ( slamming drinks on table and walking away from us as we was trying to order things) Don’t think we’ll go again which is a shame as we’ve always enjoyed going there.

User

Service was awful we waited for our drinks for a while that the food came out before we were brought drinks,we had to ask 3 different staff about were our drinks were during our meal we asked for another drink which took another 10mins to come at this point we had finished our meal. When waitress came over she asked if there was anything we would like we said we were still waiting for our drinks so she went to the bar and very rudely put the glass down harshly in front of my partner. The food we had was lovely just a shame staff didn’t know what they were doing. There seemed to be staff training serving us if that is the case then I think we should have been told before hand as it’s not fair to make trainees work in busy atmospheres if they are feeling uncomfortable the whole meal just felt like miscommunication between staff. We won’t be returning anytime soon

User

Went for a Christmas meal yesterday and the food was disgraceful. We were given a measly 10% off the bill for dry processed meat and reheated over cooked veg and pots!

Following this I was up all night with stomach pains and have been unable to eat Christmas lunch today my family. Thanks for ruining Christmas!!!

User

We are local to the Runner. Used to be a cracking place and me and the wife had our first date here. We will never return....

The service was bad all round, either didn't serve (40 min wait to order sat at the table), po faced or did a disappearing act. Food was like Wetherspoons (fish platter main type dish, whatever it was called, was dry and rubbish) but charged at a higher rate. High chair needed to be retired and cremated it was that filthy. Tried to charge for drinks that we never recieved and we took a voucher for money off that was never deducted from the bill. Will be back to get a tenner tomorrow (26th April). Shocking all round really. Shame on you Chef and Brewer for ruining a good local. Go away and let real people run it. Ps. Get staff that want to work in hospitality. I have worked in hospitality and it is hard pleasing people, but crack a flipping smile at least, or say sorry?!

User

Service is still dreadful. Stood at the bar one Friday early evening and waited to get a drink and gave up. No staff on the bar and no one appeared so went else where shocking service and we are local and won’t use the pub because of the dreadful service.

User

I’ve been to the running horse 3 times and I’ve only enjoyed 1 meal there. I went yesterday for a pre Christmas meal with my sister and boyfriend. It was awful! I will never go again now. It’s left all 3 of us poorly for Christmas. Not happy at all.

User

Have been going to the running horse for many years, but the last few times haven’t been up to the normal standard. This evening was particularly dreadful:

Waited 45 mins to order food after being seated, and only occurred once I managed to flag a waiter over. He was short and rude when taking our order, probably doesn’t like being asked to do his job!

Starter was fine. Main meals on the other hand were very disappointing. Steak was ok. Fish was dry and over cooked. Belly pork tasted microwaved and way too sickly. Onion rings were solid. All served with warm, soggy lettuce - an attempt at cabbage, maybe?! And all around £15 price..... no thanks.

When being served with our mains, we ordered two drinks, which never appeared. Waitress approached table asking ‘how were your meals?’ - my friend was still eating..... at this point we asked about our drinks, to be told she’d check. Perhaps she drank the invisible liquid they serve?

Instead of waiting for service, we went to pay at the bar.....my friend with a £10 off voucher from their spam email service....but after correcting the bill (removal of the invisible drinks) apparently she forgot the voucher discount! (Perhaps thats invisible too?!)

Needless to say....won’t be going here again - and second someone else’s review and recommending the Hop Pole down the road!
