In Richard III, Shakespeare wrote "My hair doth stand on end", which is what many of our visitors talk of experiencing when they find themselves sitting in the very Schoolroom where the world's greatest playwright would have sat as a boy.

This week we enjoyed a visit from Madame Gondree-Pritchett, whose family own the famous Grondree cafe on Pegasus Bridge in France.
Madame Gondree-Pritchett was a child when Sir Richard Gale, an Old Boy of KES, was part of the campaign to take the bridge as part of the D-Day Normandy Landings.
The cafe was the first part of France to be liberated and continues to be run by Madame Gondree-Pritchett's family.
... She was shown around by Richard Pearson, KES Archivist. Students from the school will be visiting the cafe as part of a summer school trip, when they will present Madame Gondree-Pritchett with a plaque to commemorate Sir Richard Gale.

'Tis the season to be thankful and we want to give our thanks to Allchurches Trust for their research work on our medieval Guild Chamber.

Wow what a gem! We were looking for some of the best Shakespeare landmarks and popped in here on a Sunday where we were welcomed by the very helpful, enthusiastic and friendly front desk. Loved the classroom experience and learnt a lot about what it must have been like for Shakespeare himself as a young boy. Very helpful tour guides who showed us the fantastic medieval wall painting which was painted over during the protestant reformation and only rediscovere. Absolutely fascinating and well worth a visit for under a tenner.

We really enjoyed our visit today (my second time). I brought my father in law who is a retired teacher and we all loved every minute. Great passionate staff and a lovely mix of facts, history and interaction. Great place.

User

We really enjoyed our visit to the Schoolroom yesterday. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

User

The staff were amazing... had a lovely time with the kids - 10

Really interesting and entertaining afternoon - as an English teacher, I would really recommend this. I'm definitely coming back - hopefully with a school group - in the near future and that's all the way from Eastbourne!

User

Hi it's the Stratford-upon-Avon Mumbler parents group here - the kids absolutely loved the Schoolroom. Highlights being the actor playing the Master who was in character the whole time and getting dressed up in historical school uniform :)

User

Fab place and so deserving of it's new award. Great mix of human interaction and tech, loved the classroom experience and what I loved more, was watching my 7-year old volunteering for a part and dreaming up a question to ask at the end.

User

Brilliant hour or so here - kids learning exactly as Shakespeare was and equally inspired! Staff were so friendly and helpful you could see how proud they were of this treasure!!

User

Almost missed by the tourists yet on the walk between Shakespeare's birthplace and his grave at Holy Trinity Church, I felt the Schoolroom and Guildhall has a lot more atmosphere than the other highlights. Be tutored in the form room by Master Jenkins and practice your acting by playing both Julius Caesar and Brutus. Be wowed by the medieval wall paintings in both the Great Hall and in the church next door. Not to be missed.
