About Shelsley Walsh

Shelsley Walsh Speed Hill Climb, founded in 1905 and operational to this day. Hosting the pinnacle of competition, cars and bikes for all to enjoy.

Shelsley Walsh Description

Hill climbing started at Shelsley Walsh in 1905 when the Midland Automobile Club had to find an alternative venue to Sun Rising Hill near Stratford. Since then, and war years apart, the Club has run Hill Climbs at Shelsley Walsh ever since, making it the oldest surviving motor sport venue in the world.

Alongside the Formula One Paddock at Classic Nostalgia, will be a busy Formula Two paddock. Two of the cars in this group will be the two 1980 Toleman TG280s which came first and second in the 1980 European F2 Championship in the hands of Brian Henton and Derek Warwick. It is believed that Classic Nostalgia will be the first time that the cars have sat side by side since they competed together in the 80s. The ex-Derek Warwick Toleman was driven to second Best Time of Day at the hands of Mark Harrison last year, so will be one to watch.

Top Ess Tuesday with the King of Shelsley in the 80s, AD-O.
Unsilenced DFV, open pipes, fat tyres and a Shelsley record. What’s not to like about a great Run Off at Shelsley?

IT'S BACK!
Nic Mann's turbo charged (on nitrous) V8 Morris Minor will return to Shelsley Walsh on August 11th and 12th. With 500+ bhp in the late 80s, this was one of the fastest road registered cars Autocar had ever tested. It blew away the poster car of the time, a Ferrari F40, with it's silent assassin ways.
Nic used to drive the car to the hills around the UK with slicks in the car, change the road tyres and win the class.
... Bill Sherratt has owned the car since Nic sold it to him and he'll be bringing the car to Shelsley for a parade of cars important to the history of the hill as we celebrate 113 years of Shelsley history on August 12th with the British Hill Climb Championship classes and thrilling Top 12 Run Offs.
Thanks to Chris Wells for the pictures.

Yesterday was a great Breakfast Club at Shelsley Walsh with a whole host of cars coming through the paddock to fill it up by 9.15. Pre-war Rolls-Royce to a new BMW M2 and Audi R8 covered everything in between.
A very cool winner of some Autoglym car car products for Coolest Classic Car was this Alfa Romeo Furgone of Ed Seymour. It was an ex-Walter Villa 250cc GP support vehicle and is now the only one in the UK. Villa won the 250cc GP World Championship in 1974, 1975 and 19...76 plus the 350cc title in 1976 too.
James Higginson won Best Presented Car with his Renault Clio Sport that was beyond immaculate, while Will Gough won Best Young Timer Award with his 2007 Richard Burns Subaru RB320. They each took home over £100 of Autoglym goodies to keep their cars even shinier.
The MHD Watches - Matthew Humphries Design LTD. Design of the Day award went to Rod Mossop's Afla Romeo Gulietta that he's had for some years, driving it all over Europe.
Our next Breakfast Club is August 5th. See you then car buffs.
Thanks to a very Italian (for the morning) Roberto MacDonalito for shots ✌🏼

This was my first time of being at the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcester as I did not go to this annual motoring event last year on Saturday 11th July 2015 due to bad weather and from my brand new experience there today - Saturday 23rd July 2016 I felt I enjoyed the day as there were so many planned activities happening and if you have an interest in motoring then I am sure this is the place for anyone who likes cars but, these are just my honest and truthful statements.

However, I would like to say thank you very much to the Morgan Motor Company who came to this one-off special event today especially for the commitment of your hard work/service and more importantly, the organisers and the team from the Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcester.

Bye for now.

The hidden gem of motorsport... soak up the amazing atmosphere and scenery both up the hill and around the paddock...the drama of a top twelve run off is a must see.

User

One of the oldest and best hillclimb venues in great britain...always fantastic action with awesome cars and bikes from every era ...would recommend it to any motorsport fan

User

It’s amazing fun for everyone

User

I've been in motorsport for a few years now, mainly competing at circuits around the UK such as Silverstone etc

I have to say Shelsley Walsh is superb, I'd not attended prior to today but I've had such a good time.. The venue and staff are incredible.. I'll be back in the future for sure.. thank you for making me feel so welcome

User

I've been going here since I was born as my Dad is one of the volunteers that helps start the races. I still love coming here after 30+ years and seeing the changes is amazing. I have then subjected my children to Shelsley since they were born too. I've even gone as far as naming my son "Morgan" :)

User

I usually accompany my husband to the hillclimb he is the motor enthusiast and I am a keen photographer. The sights and sounds around the paddock throw up lots of opportunities for a good photo. Climbing the hill up to the top esses and sitting watching the cars round the bends sometimes a bit hairy for some cars has to be experienced first hand. Looking from the top of the hill out to the beautiful sleepy countryside surrounding Shelsley and the cars whizzing by is an unusual concoction but one that works. The people who attend these events and the competitors are lovely people - the drivers are always pleased to have a chat with you and if I ask politely are always happy to pose for a photo with their fab and sometimes very expensive cars. The Classic Nostalgia weekend is my favourite meeting.

User

I took part in the driving school. It is possibly the best experience I've had driving my own car. The driving tuition is great and the volunteer marshals and staff are exceptional. Really worth the money.

User

I spectated here as a child and competed here as an adult from 2014-2016. Truly beautiful, historical venue, with an atmosphere like no other. Never felt unwelcome as a competitor despite being very much the lowest rung of the ladder and the slowest of the day at every event I entered!

User

Classic nostalgic weekend is brilliant. Thank you so much for our club invite to bring along military vehicles. We enjoy every minute. Can't wait to be back next year.

User

Beautiful location, nice atmosphere and facilities, great hill track, excellent range of cars and impressive to see in action. Thoroughly enjoyed practice day yesterday and the working mill demonstration was a nice unexpected bonus too. Many thanks and keep up the good work.

User

Absolutely love this place! Beautiful setting, great, friendly staff. Just a really great place to visit for all the family.

User

Absolutely fabulous day out. Well laid out course with plenty of seated viewing points along the course. Plenty of toilets too and quality food and drinks close by, even a bar for the non-drivers!.

Only slight downside was the timing clock was only working intermittently so timing splits were hit and miss, clock showing speed coming into the double S bend was great. Would highly recommend it to all petrol heads and great for families too looking to see their first motorsport event. I'm definitely going again, soon!
