About Shropshire Choices Asc

People2People is an independent social work and OT practice operating in Shropshire. We're a social enterprise that works in partnership with local people and using person centred approaches to promote independence and reduce bureaucracy.

Shropshire Choices Asc Description

We believe in giving the right response, guidance and information to people at the right time and in the right way. We encourage and enable people to look to the community around them and to find out what is already available that they can benefit from and to strengthen these networks of support and advice. This involves us reaching out to all the other organisations, charities and community groups that are currently in Shropshire.

At People2people we aim to provide this as well as having professional social workers and occupational therapists for those people who do need more support. Our staff are trained in person centred approaches and understand the importance of having good conversations and understanding what matters to someone.

Do you provide services which help and support people in Oswestry?
Shropshire Together is looking for partners from all sectors, including GP surgeries (including nurses, ccc’s), Pharmacies, Health and Social Care services, Fire Service and Voluntary and Community Organisations, to help them develop and deliver ‘Social Referrals’ in Oswestry.
Social Referrals is just that - a referral given by health or care worker such as Community Mental Health Teams or a GP practice or a S...ocial Worker for non-clinical services such as employment support, benefits advice, volunteering opportunities, walking or health groups, peer support groups, foodbanks, healthy eating, arts activities and much more.
In Oswestry we recognise that there is a considerable amount of community support and effective signposting, but, unlike signposting, a social referral will support a person to access the non-clinical support and interventions and monitor progress.
If you think your organisation could offer or receive referrals please attend this event (details below), where we will discuss thoughts so far, ask for your views, understand what community support is available in Oswestry and understand what we need to do to make this happen.
Come and help us to develop and shape Social Referring for Oswestry
Where: Oswestry - TBC When: 8th February Time: 4:00- 6:00 Please contact Hayley Barnett-Hook to book your place Hayley.Barnett-Hook@shropshire.gov.u k or 01743 253934

Last week was National Carers week which gave us a chance to celebrate family members, friends and neighbours in Shropshire who look after someone who needs some support to manage day to day living.
Carers week is an opportunity to focus on carers locally, to highlight what looking after someone else means for the carer; their own life and health and to share this with the wider community.
As well as being rewarding, caring for someone else can be exhausting and so this yea...r’s Carers week focus, ‘Building Carer Friendly Communities’ was exactly what we wanted to talk about when we were out meeting with people across the county last week.
People2People has an exciting new project that aims to identify flexible ways of supporting carers in the community. During Carers Week we were keen to talk to people to get their ideas about how their local neighbourhood could do this - maybe by building on something that is already there or by helping individuals or the community to create something new.
We attended markets in Oswestry and Ludlow, Party in the Park in Whitchurch and other events throughout the county and had the opportunity to chat to all sectors of the community. We had a wonderful response from people who had many suggestions, some big, others little, that could make a difference to carers.
Below is an example of just one such idea from a carer living in south Shropshire: “I care for my mother who lives the other side of the town and every Sunday I have to go across town to make her lunch. I’ve often thought, I bet someone who lives by my mother is doing the same in reverse and coming to my end to do their mothers lunch! Wouldn’t it be good if we could link people up so that I made lunch for someone’s mum who lives by me and they made lunch for my Mum?”
Much like the communities we met last week… Suggestions come in many sizes, little and large.
Big or small - we welcome input and involvement from all people living in Shropshire including, carers, local voluntary groups; businesses; charities, church groups as well as individuals in the community.
Please contact Margarete Davies for more information about the new carers project and to share your ideas.
