Shun Poo Kan Aikido Description

Shun Poo Kan is a UK Aikido organisation officially recognised by Hombu Dojo Tokyo (Aikido World headquarters).

It has been established for nearly 40 years in the teaching of traditional Aikido. Our Instructors have many years experience and work together with our members to create a warm and friendly atmosphere in which to practice.

We aim to teach our members not only a very effective form of self-defence, but also the value of respect, discipline, honour and integrity - sadly missing in much of today's society.

These standards have been built upon over the years and we feel very strongly that they are maintained and form an integral part of what it is to practice Aikido in our association.

As an organisation, we constantly look to improve and with an increasing membership and dedicated team of Instructors we continue to go from strength to strength

Visited the U.K. From the U.S. just to work with these guys. Wonderful group, and a joy to train with. I will be coming back 👍

SPK was the first Aikido club I found when I moved to the Black country, If you want traditional instruction this is the real deal!

The head instructor is a 7th Dan and learnt directly from many Japanese instructors!

A very warm and welcoming group of people, highly recommended!!!

Review of techniques which might well be asked of those grading on Sunday's Course. Always good to keep reinforcing.

Had a great class a little packed so had work in groups part of the time.

All went very well.

A great club with a great atmosphere. Whilst the art of Aikido and its associated protocols (none of which are onerous, just common sense really) are taken seriously, everyone is free to train at their own pace in a relaxed and supportive way. When I joined in 2012 it was suggested that I would not only enjoy the training but probably make new friends some of which might be come life long friends. I must say that within one year of joining I have seen evidence of this. There is great camaraderie and this extends to persons of all abilities. Nobody makes a big thing about the job that you do or whether you are good at it or not. If you turn up with an open mind, without Ego and simply do your best you will be welcomed. A sense of humour just makes the experience even more enjoyable. For years, I considered Martial Arts something that I would never be any good at, fearing potential weakness for being too old or out of condition, injury due to being punched or kicked, or plain ridicule for not being 'tough enough'. Aikido accommodates everyone whether short, tall, slim, large, old, young, male or female. My only regret at joining Shun Poo Kan is that I did not do it 20 years sooner
