Skka Smethwick Karate Club

We are the Smethwick club of a larger midland's based Karate Association, offering classes that are family friendly from ages 4 yrs.

Sensei Mark Harvey 4th Dan, Instructor of SKKA Oldbury Karate Club & co founder of SKKA.

Mark first discovered Shukokai Karate in 1988 at the age of 7 and enjoyed training for two years under the instruction of Sensei John Harris, before needing to cease training to have more time for school commitments.

At the age of 18 Mark felt he was ready to once again give Karate his full attention, but was unable to find the club he had started at originally and so began training in Wado-Ryu Karate.

For two years Mark trained hard and although he was happy to be once again doing Karate didn't find Wado-Ryu a good fit. Having found the new location of his first club, he once again started training in Shukokai Karate, under Sensei John Harris and obtained the grade of 1st DAN before he sadly retired to Spain in 2005.

Mark then continued to train under the new club instructors Sensei Karl Horsburgh & Sensei Steve Bodycote, obtaining the grade of 2nd DAN in 2008.

In 2009 Mark became an official FEKO Karate instructor and began teaching his own class and acting as assistant instructor in other classes he trained in.

In January 2011 Mark together with two other instructors Jason & Karl decided to form their own association S. K. K. A. , of which Jason Smith is now Chief Instructor. Together we also began training in Kobudo and have so far obtained the grade of 9th Kyu.

In December 2011 Mark obtained the grade of 3rd DAN under Sensei Karl Horsburgh & Sensei Jason Smith.
