It’s GCSE Results Day tomorrow. Good luck to all those students waiting for their results. We hope you’ve got the grades you were hoping for. If you have missed out on our entry requirements, don’t panic! There may still be a course that is suitable for you at College. Do not come into College, but rather email the College on the specific “just missed the grades” email address (justmissed@solihullsfc.ac.uk) with a scan of your results. We will reply within two working days to give you advice on whether you should come in to College with your results for an interview to discuss any suitable courses and the best options for you.

User

Please be aware the College car park and the roundabout on the College access road will be closed for part of the day tomorrow to allow resurfacing to take place. If you are due in College for your Year 13 enrolment interview or any other appointment it may be necessary to use St Alphege School car park or to use public transport to get to College. Apologies for any inconvenience.

For students trying to decide whether to apply for a review of marking, the Exams Office can assist you in ordering a copy of your exam paper. A priority copy application costs £15 via Parentpay and the deadline to apply is 2.00pm on 23 August. Meanwhile, getting the return of your original exam paper costs £12 via Parentpay and the deadline to apply is 2.00pm on 27 September. Please note, applying for the return of your original exam paper will mean you are not allowed to apply for a review. However, it is a useful service for revision purposes if you are considering a re-sit.

User

For students whose university place is dependent on the outcome of a review of marking, please note the deadline to apply for a priority review is 2.00pm on 23 August. The cost for this service is £55 and you can apply online via Parentpay. Reviews are normally completed within 18 days. We’ve got four students progressing onto Oxbridge this year (including a former student making a deferred entry). Included in these success stories is Nick Delaney, who achieved all A* grades in A level German, Law and Russian to take up his place at Churchill College, Cambridge to study Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. Congratulations Nick. Read more about our Oxbridge success on the College website at https://www.solihullsfc.ac.uk/ne…/stude nts-heading-oxbridge/.

Should you wish to apply for a review of marking or copy of exam papers we would recommend that you apply online via Parentpay in August/September. Students are able to use their own debit/credit card if they prefer. If you are not able to pay online, please print off the application form from Moodle Exams page, complete the form and take it to the Exams Office with the appropriate payment. Please note, the Awarding Bodies have strict deadlines in which to apply for a review of marking or copy of exam papers. Further information about these fees is available on our website at https://www.solihullsfc.ac.uk/student-zon e/exam-service/.

A level Results are in! We’re celebrating 394 starred grades (A* at A level and Distinction* at BTEC level). 177 of our students achieved all top grades (A/A* at A Level or BTEC Distinction/ Distinction*). 459 students achieved all A*-C grades at A level or Merit and above and BTEC. 20 advanced level courses have achieved a 100% pass rate, with success also achieved on BTEC courses, the results of which were confirmed last month. Congratulations to our successful students.

For anyone coming into College tomorrow to get advice following their results or support with clearing, please be aware that the College driveway and car parks are currently being resurfaced. As a result, there are some uneven driving surfaces and there may be some periods when part of the site are inaccessible. Apologies for any inconvenience.

User

It’s A level Results Day tomorrow. Students can access their results via Tyber from 6.00am. Good luck! Look out for news of our students achievements on the website and social media. We’re confident the majority of our students will have done well, but if you are disappointed with your results, don’t panic! Help is at hand via senior staff in the Learning Resource Centre from 8.30am tomorrow. We strongly advise that students come into College rather than telephoning or emailing if they want advice, as this will be faster and we will have representatives from local universities in College to offer places via Clearing.

Itching to start my college life!

User

Loved the college life and felt supported by tutors and staff :)

User

I want to come in college. .

User

I had a great experience at college! I had a lot of support from teachers who were always willing to help, whenever I asked. You really get out what you put in with this college and the staff are so friendly. There are loads of great oportunities and I enjoyed it so much I applied to work there for another year as an intern!

User

I had a fabulous time at college, amazing student support team and extra curricular activities. I achieved great grade, that I would have never imagined of achieving before college. Best days of my life in may ways.

User

Excellent college and wonderful teachers.

User

great

User

I really enjoyed my time here, the lessons were well taught ,teachers were very supportive and friendly, made some great friends. But students were constantly reminded 95% go to University ; there is a pressure, I feel, to go to University because it was encouraged by the College. I was one of the 5% who did not attend after A levels, purely because the pressure of the intense A level exams after the May half term. The college should emphasise that , not going to University doesn't mean you are not a smart or educated person and students should only apply if you are fully confident with your decision. Don't apply to Uni because the majority go.

95% is only a statistic, only a number. Your future and education is worth more than that.

User

Sixth Form life was amazing, but education-wise, there didn't seem to be much attention given to those getting average grades (D-B). It felt like all the focus was on those who were failing and those who were the high-flyers. In terms of opportunities and extra-curricular, you couldn't choose anywhere better, and emotional support was exceptional. But the educational support system really needs looking at.

User

I found the place great yes but I felt belittled and bullied by a few teachers and made to feel like my work in art was less important and got marked down because I wasn't the teachers favourite. I'm glad I've moved on from this college but I know a lot enjoy it there

User

I agree absolutely with those students who say this college pressurises students to go on to University. My impression is that they don't teach young people to think - but they try and teach them to pass exams (learning by rote if necessary). I am appalled at the way they have encouraged my grandchildren to blame "mental health problems" when they have "underachieved". If you are a prospective student with mild anxiety problems then do not go near this place - if you do you should expect to leave having been told by them that you have major mental health problems. They are so preoccupied with getting excellent results that young peoples' welfare is always secondary here. They pretend to involve the student's parent/guardian in decision making: in reality this is patchy. I have spent hours in unnecessary and tortuous meetings that were allegedly about a student's welfare, only to discover that the bigger decisions would not be discussed with me. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Do they know how many of last years leavers (even high achievers) are unemployed or working in cafes/bars/restaurants in Solihull? They don't even bother to contact the leavers who fail to get their predicted grades when exam results are given. There are better places to study than this. I really regret that my family members have been to this college - all 3 of them seem to have been damaged by it.
