About Sparkhill Commercial School

The school was provided to teach commercial skills ie accountancy secretarial skills as well as providing a good general education. It specialised in principles of accounts typing shorthand commerce etc. Its intake was selected by examination latterly by a 13 + examination and intake was from across the Birmingham Conurbation. The school finally closed in December 1963 when the pupils and staff moved to Hall Green and was renamed Hall Green Bilateral. Intake from other local schools was added.
The Headmaster from it's inception until 1963 was Mr. Cyril Toy. Many of the teachers were at the school from the late forties
