finally back on the bike and riding to and from work!
1st ride today and finally got to feel some performance out of my knee.
definitely going to get some swelling tonight! icing it and compressing it should fix that ready for tomorrow!
... quads burned like mad but felt so good!
knee is more or less functional again now. still not 100% but definitely setting my sights on a triathlon soon!

ok guys so I have been rehabbing my knee for a week and I have been stuck for 5 days on one exercise.
I have been trying to get my quads to fire when my leg is straight to hyper extend the knee and I had a pain signal that was stopping me from getting ANY activation.
now the first thing to say here is that 1 I know it's a pain signal that's caused by swelling so ive done lots of swelling management over the last 5 days and tried to get it firing voluntarily. it just hasn't wo...rked.
the second thing is I know that if this happens that it is normal. the way to gat past it is to assist the contraction.
so to do this I use a tens machine. I set it to warmup the muscle first. then set the machine to carry out a strength workout. now when the muscle goes into a full contraction, I also try to contract the muscle myself. the tens machine kills the pain signal and that then means that the signal from my brain starts to break through.
now, what I am not doing, is not getting the tens machine to do it for me but to augment my own contraction.
this always manages to get me past a pain signal blocking my voluntary contraction.
let me know your thoughts!

so thought I'd talk you through using this beauty! honestly it made my day!
after 3 days of increasing pain and swelling, to finally be in a position to do my physio and get some time where my knee and skin doesn't feel like it's going to explode!
blissful!

kind of a big day for me today. last few days have been trash rehab wise. I've done very few of the prescribed exercise because both pain and swelling were insane.
however, I had to catch up on pain meds (will explain how pain meds work in another video and why proactive management of pain is important) but most importantly I feel like I got the swelling reduced today.
my body always ALWAYS responds with ridiculous swelling and inflammation to injury. whilst inflammation is ...important to the healing process it's also counter productive in the excess.
however now I have got on top of it today, due to the #cryosleeve that a client has lent me and I can now exercise again!
long way to go!

It's bad enough that my chicken legs dont fill my sweats anymore, after a year waiting for surgery, but when I'm sat here moaning about my knee not working to see the difference in size is no wonder!!!

Probably a bit different from your normal rehab video. today we talk about the impact of mood state and anesthesia on recovery.
You get a bit of an apology for the silence as well so enjoy that because it doesn't happen often!
The effect of the opioids and anesthesia absolutely annihilated me on day 3 and 4. First of all, the way my body responded to them being in my system was horrendous and then the complete depression I felt was abysmal.
... When we talk about the rehab process we talk alot about physiology but being a sports scientist and getting to have an awareness of psychology and physiology means that I am hyper aware of the recovery of the personality and mind as well as their body.
Important message for those of you having surgery today guys! let me know your thoughts!

A little update about my rehab journey. Had a suggestion from a friend to do recovery to triathlon and I really like that idea so depending on my checkup in 6 weeks not coming back with ligament damage then I'll be aiming for that!
made a decision about painkillers today that I wouldn't recommend to clients but reasoning is in the video and an update about what I have left tot do today.
enjoy!

we do alot of rehab work at Faultless Fitness and I wanted to give anyone facing knee surgery an idea about what to expect and how best to start, progress and finish your recovery.
Day 1 is literally about wound closure, rest, ice and mobilisation as pain allows. Pain management should be prioritised and swelling should be allowed to recede and muscle mass should be activated around the leg just to try and keep as much muscle mass/strength as possible to speed up rehab later....
just getting a muscle twitch is winning at this point!
day 1 down...

Ok then... this is an easy one! What makes these special and what are they called?
Bonus point is you can tell me what using them does to you and what transferable adaptation it causes in sports?

User

Ok last one before I go to bed for 4 hours to carry on building this insanely good equipment!!! . What is this piece of equipment that's in our new strength and conditioning suite?

User

Next question! . This is a new item in the stength and conditioning suite. What am I?

Big moment down at the faultless hq! Just had the screen removal ceremony! This screen has been a pain in mols life at the old place where we used it to separate the unit when therapy was on. Now we have the dedicated room, this thing was destined for the skip!

So, 3.5 weeks in and we have gone from the bottom shell of a building to what will be the most premium high end strength and conditioning facility in Herefordshire, without doubt рЯСКрЯПї
This obviously is still far from finished and unfortunately this will be the last preview post you will see before Saturday when we have a massive reveal, open day for new people to meet us and then the client party Saturday evening!

This is going to sounds sad to a few people but 6 years ago almost exactly I started out on a dream to opening a world class strength and conditioning facility.
I started my degree and I dreamed that my facility would look after all the people that wouldn't normally get looked after: -Ill people suffering from disease, cancer survivors, diabetics and the obese. The people that are usually shunned by other places. -athletes, not just your elite ones but anyone that is passion...ate and loves their sport. Even if they're like an elephant on wheels, I wanted to help them.
3.5 years ago I opened my first unit. Whilst we struggled with some of the things at the site it had a great s and c facility and was an amazing start and our knowledge drove the exact people I wanted to help to us.
We have people who can lift with better form at 40, 50 and 60 years old than the usual Instagram instructor!
But the feedback from clients was always the same, the amenities needed improving to match the standard of our service.
So here I am, a week away from opening the Faultless Fitness Facility having won an award for one of the best facilities and services in the UK and my astroturf has arrived. Not just any astroturf that looks like a carpet, but proper turf to run my sleds on, not just any fire door but the exact ones I wanted.
I can see all the sweat, pain and dreams coming together to be my new reality and my families new reality and my clients new reality.
And now I am hungry. I am achieving a life goal and my new goal is to help even more people and for my kids to grow up to see that helping people is what we do as a family and good things happen when you help people. I am hungry for my new goal...
