The most important investment you’ll make as a runner is in a decent pair of running shoes. Firstly make sure they are designed for running rather than being a general training shoe. A specific running shoe will cushion your feet from the stresses & strains of running and therefore help to prevent injuries.

Every Saturday morning thousands of people gather to run 5km at 9am in parks across the UK. But what is this growing craze they call “parkrun” – and why have 700,000 joined the running revolution since 2004?
Here’s why, plus six reasons for you to get off your backside and join the parkrun fun and become a better version of you!
1. It's free
... 2. You can pretty much do it anywhere
3. You'll earn your breakfast
4. It's a run, not a race
5. You'll be part of a growing movement
6. Your kids can get involved too

Save your money theres no need for Vitamin & Mineral supplements You can get the balance of intakes right by carefully selecting and preparing the appropriate foods. Here are some practical tips on optimising the micronutrient quality of foods.
Careful selection and preparation of appropriate foods will be the easiest way for your clients to get the balance of their intakes right.
... Buy British seasonal produce rather than that grown overseas and imported when out of local season. Most of the nutritional quality is lost in the days between early picking abroad and arrival in the shops.
Buy local produce e.g. from farmers markets and farm shop where travel time is less and time between picking and consuming is lower.
Prepare fruit and vegetables as they need them - nutrients are lost as soon as we start chopping!
Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly to enable them to consume any edible skins. Many valuable nutrients are found within and very close to the skin and peeling will lose them.
Where fresh fruit is not available, then frozen is an excellent back up. Nutritionally it contains very similar levels of nutrients.
Steam and boil your vegetables in shallow water as briefly as possible to reduce what is lost during the cooking process.
Keep any left-over cooking water to add to gravies, sauces and soups as it will contain the nutrients lost from the vegetables.

The glycaemic index is a numerical index that ranks foods on a scale of 0–100 according to their immediate effect on blood glucose levels. Each food sample contains 50 g of carbohydrate and is compared against 50 g of glucose or other reference food such as white bread. Glucose and white bread show the fastest rise and so score 100 – all other foods are ranked relative to this. GIs of 55 or below are considered low, and 70 or above are considered high.

Did you know: The body can store enough Glycogen to sustain 90 - 180 minutes of aerobic activity. The more intense the activity the quicker it depletes.
