About The Armoury

Welcome to the Armoury. We are a pub and restaurant serving wine, local ales and top notch food! Find us along the River Severn in Shrewsbury.

The Armoury Description

The Armoury is a city pub – it’s a truly impressive space, illuminated with lovely windows looking out over the river, with a good bar and massive bookcases, but it is never intimidating – Sunday lunch here with the family feels just like a pub lunch should feel like – the people on the tables around are warm and chatty, and there’s a lovely atmosphere throughout.

Wonderful, charasmatic pub at the side of the river. You walk in and are instantly taken aback at the sheer height and length of it along with comfy armchairs and plenty of seating. Staff are extremely friendly and hardworking. First time we felt relaxed during our hectic two day stopover in Shrewsbury and well worth a visit.

User

Very goid meal nice prawn starter super sea bream with Squid and rice. The bread and Butter pudding with Apricots snd clotted cream was superb and a great sized portion

User

Lovely food and drink was busy has it was the carnival but managed to find a table service was excellent and so was the food top notch would definitely return again

User

Lovely dog friendly pub. Went in on Friday & returned again with our friends on Saturday.

User

Introduced two of my friends to this place...food is great we ate from the bite size menu. It is not fast food it is delicious though. Lovely atmosphere and staff. We will bring the men with us next time. Thank you.xx

User

Great place, fabulous food and lovely friendly staff. Glad to have found it.

User

Although the food was a bit dearer than a pub, it looked very good and served in a very clean environment. We were just drinking and found a great range of cask beers most being fairly local. All beers we tried were in top condition. Staff very friendly. Highly Recommend.

User

Would’ve got a 5 but unfortunately was offered a Gin and Tonic in a wine glass or a tumbler!!.. There were lots Gin glasses about and the glass makes a difference ... I did say this to the bar person but he just said ‘sorry’ ..(instead of customer service’ let’s see what I can do ‘).. great location by the river ..

User

Two adults, two children. Food was good and plenty of it, table service good. Long wait for food after ordering. Pleasant experience.

User

Lovely pub and even better that it's dog friendly. We went for a drink there yesterday but unfortunately had our experience ruined by someone with an unruly dog who went for our dog but ended up biting my dad on the leg. Would still come back as the pub was lovely

User

I have eaten here many times over the year, both in the restaurant area and the bar. This time we were a 'walk in' and sat in the bar; my daughter and I had walked the dog through the Quarry and into town, she was treating me to an early Mother's Day lunch. I had never been in with the dog but there were a couple of other dogs in there too. It is useful to be able to do this as you can combine the walk with the lunch; I'm sure this provides extra revenue.

The quality at the Armoury is pretty consistent; you can guarantee some good food cooked to order and the menu caters for all tastes, however if you're a vegan then you'd struggle. I am veggie and found that the veggie meals relied heavily on diary. It may be different on other days but come on guys, it's about time you revised your menu in light of this.

The atmosphere is always great and they serve a variety of real ale. It's always busy, which illustrates their popularity.

The only other down side is accessibility; if you are a wheel chair user or struggling with a buggy (especially a double one) then it's difficult to get in. It is possible that they do have a ramp but this is not noted outside. If you are on your own and a wheel chair user how do you summon help to enable access? I feel this does need to be addressed.

User

Very disapointed as after 40 mins waiting they had a power cut to which they couldnt deliver our food, they said we couldnt leave unless we left card details, they said this dosent happen often how ever been informed it happened in april, we asked if we could have a complimentary drink while we waited to which they said no!, also asked if we could have starter's olives, Their loss we went to the Alb, absolutely great food and great staffing!!!!

User

Though a lovely place with friendly good service, the food selection on the vast menu for someone needing gluten and or dairy free were unfortunately disappointingly limited

User

I'm assuming there's been quite a few staff changes recently. On previous visits over the years I've always scored the Armoury 5 stars, sadly though last night's visit wasn't as good as it should have been. The guy waiting on our table needs to learn not to throw the plates down, but place them instead. Always useful to have your drinks served before starters turn up as well. Meals being served on stone cold plates is poor. However the meals we still nice, just lacking in basic finishing touches.

User

After visiting there several times and always very pleased with the food unfortunately yesterday was a different matter. 3 of our party had the roast option which was very disappointing, only warm and horrible roast potatoes and that was after a 40 min wait. This was mentioned to the waitress but nothing happened. It was mentioned again when paying the bill but that was too late.

User

We arrived a bit early which is just as well, because after an hour's wait we had still not been served with our mains. The starters (which were very nice) were pretty slow coming. In the end we left because we had an appointment but to be honest, we would have left anyway after waiting that long. "They are just coming now," was an inaccurate reassurance.

It wasn't particularly busy and it was very noisy. And expensive. I won't be going again.

User

Saddened to say we won’t be returning. After first being served warm beer (as the cellar cooling system wasn’t working), to then having to wait as somebody was sat at our booked table, to then having to collect our own menus.. this was all before we had even looked at what we wanted to eat. We then waited 20 minutes for an additional drinks round (which we had to mention to the waitor to initiate any kind of service), and then waited 45 minutes for our food, which was very standard and ordinary. Very poor experience

User

On Friday evening a party of six of went to eat here. There were some lovely parts and some dodgy parts to the evening. The starters (those of us that had starters) were delicious and then it took a good 40 - 45 minutes before anything for the main course and it took a member of our group to inform them that we were still waiting before anyone noticed.

When the main courses arrived some were very good (the steaks in particular) but no one was offered a steak knife making this hard to cut. A basic requirement really when serving steak. The waitress was clearly so rushed that she dumped the food in front of people and was hollering the names of the dishes at people as though at a cattle market. The two fish dishes (hake) were inedible as they were overcooked and dry (probably from sitting under something to keep them warm whilst the kitchen rushed to complete our tables order. This would also explain why the pastry on the pie was uncooked also. We were also offered no extra condiments at the table. Again quite a basic.

The staff member who came to speak with us couldn't have been more apologetic and took the affected fish dishes off of the bill and provided the coffees and desserts free as a gesture of good will. This was much appreciated.

It was just a shame that happened in the first place as we have enjoyed dining here quite a few times in the past. The excuse that there weren't enough staff working for the busy night doesn't really cut the mustard on a Friday or Saturday. Especially as our party arrived for our 6.30pm booking and the management of the situation still hadn't been resolved by nearly 11pm when we left.

Some strong points but outweighed on this occasion by the bad.

Beef topside sunday roast dinner review: Gravy was way too thin and lacking depth of flavour, roast potatoes were unseasoned and hard and unpleasant to swallow(oil fried?) meat was very good on crust but got more and more tasteless towards center and started to resemble liver flavor(mrs agreed too), Yorkshire pudding was chewy and hard tasted oily (like they were store bought?) veg was very good though perfectly cooked and seasoned well

verdict: 4/10, its not a right off there were positives. I assumed i came on a bad day but for £13.45 you expect a higher standard from such a reputable establishment.
