After a very busy first month, (we are really pleased to see so many people making the effort to shop zero waste! 🙌) we have decided the best way to keep things ticking smoothly is to close on Mondays!
... We need this time to expand our plastic free product range/improve the shop, replenish stock for our customers and to keep on top of good old admin. 😊
We will be closed starting from Monday 30th July but we have extended our hours during the week- there is still opportunity for after work plastic free shopping! 💚
Please help spread the word with your friends and family and those that are not connected online so we do not disappoint anyone!

Wow, how time flies! 🐝 We still remember the butterflies in our stomachs on our very busy first day! 😲
... Since our opening, we have been continually improving our shop and product range to offer as many packaging free options as possible! If you haven’t visited recently, these are the new products you’ve missed:
💚The deli counter- local yoghurt, cheese, butter from Ludlow Food and homemade soya hummus! 🧀
💚A choice of homemade soya milk, homemade oat milk or almond milk from O Mylk starting from Wednesday🥛
💚As well as sourdough from Peel and Stone, we now offer their white, brown and multigrain tin loaves and tea cakes! 🍞
💚Our fruit and veg selection has doubled in size due to popular demand! 🥕🍅🌽
💚Honey from Beezneez in the Cotswolds 🍯
💚Local dairy ice cream from Droitwich Spa (as with a quite a few of our suppliers, they take back the containers and refill!)🍦
💚Homemade ice lollies made from our freshly squeezed orange juice (the only packaging was the orange skins!) 🍊
💚Beeswax from The Custard Factory Bees (yes there are bee hives on the roof!) 🐝
💚Organic frozen raspberries from the Shropshire hills (soon to be supplying us with 21 varieties of apples, walnuts and hazelnuts too!) 🍎

This time last year there was only ONE zero waste shop in the UK...plastic pollution was relatively unheard of in mainstream media 😩
Fast forward a year later... there are over 20 going strong and over another 20 setting up! 🙌 Check out the article below written by The Telegraph!

Morning Birmingham!
We are really excited to pick up our first delivery of lovely organic FROZEN raspberries! 😍 And of course there is not a plastic packet or punnet in sight! 🙌
... These are locally grown by Billy the farmer at Augernik Fruit Farm in Shropshire and they are super tasty!
Don’t forget to bring your container to take them back home... or why not have a healthy snack in the sun today?! 🌞

Thank you so much to Deloitte UK #DeloitteMids for being a huge supporter during crowdfunding and providing pro-bono advice. They also donated this amazing mural which beautifully illustrates our journey, ethos and gives thanks to all our supporters (made possible by Scriberia)! 💚
It is often hard to be eco-friendly within the work place as it often needs to be understood collaboratively from both employers and employees...
It is then up to the decision makers to ensure the w...orkplace is as green as possible! Deloitte are in the process of removing plastic cups, stirrers, straws and milk sachets from all their UK offices. Alongside this they’re providing all UK employees with reusable KeepCups and water bottles! 💧We have visited their offices and we were extremely impressed!
It is fantastic to see large companies such as Deloitte making huge efforts to become greener (showing it can be done!) and supporting a small independent green project such as ours!
So maybe in your next meeting, just suggest one thing that could make your company greener and YOU can be the change! 🙌 🌎

He is working at the shop on his birthday but work is not ‘work’ when you believe in your job!
... So many crazy long hours and hard work has been dedicated to the setting up the shop and Tom has truly put so much passion and love in and taken on tough challenges and risk to make it happen! I’m sure we all agree that it has definitely been worth it after seeing the shop open its doors this month! 😍

We are overwhelmed to be featured in so many articles and in the news since our opening! Thank you to everyone for supporting us and taking their time to talk about our zero waste supermarket! 🤗
Plastic pollution was not in mainstream media or talked about in government when we first started talking setting up (just over a year ago). Even our family and friends were worried for us, and unsure if the concept would work in Birmingham....
We pursued and we was extremely lucky t...hat the likes of David Attenborough really bought the plastic pollution to the public’s attention and the issue is now realised globally! 🌎
Education/awareness is key to slow down the plastic pollution and in turn the more demand there is from the public, the more companies that will opt for environmentally friendly packaging and eco-friendly processes!
We are really on the cusp of great change to protect our environment and it feels amazing!!! 🙌

What a fantastic shop. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Produce was all very good quality. I was not expecting such a wide range of produce, it was wonderful. Some items were a little expensive.

Visited for the first time, fantastic!

I took my own supply of containers and filled up on loads of bits that have been so hard to source plastic free elsewhere.

Definitely planning to go back when stocks need refilling!

Lovely staff and a wide range of products!

I visited on Monday this week. FANTASTIC shop. I try to eat healthy, but most things do come in plastic packaging. I noted so many products at The Clean Kilo which I could buy! Some of the prices were actually cheaper + the satisfaction that I am not paying someone to add the plastic packing to landfill or elsewhere. I came up from Milton Keynes and will definitely consider making the trip especially to stock up. Hopefully The Clean Kilo will be a spreading concept! Thank you also to the staff which were very helpful.

Had a great time shopping today. The staff were so helpful and kind with my toddler too. I really recommend the ice cream in a cone. A very nice treat!!!

First visit, really impressed. Great produce range, not expensive at all - some things were a lot cheaper than I expected, helpful staff, easy to use the weighing system. Will continue to keep running down my stuff in plastic at home and replace it from here.

First visit to the store. Great experience with friendly staff and great range of products, which are fairly priced. Will definitely be visiting again!
