The Fig And Olive Description

Whether you are out for breakfast, lunch or an evening meal its unique industrial interior design and friendly atmosphere welcomes all occasions. By day the casual, bustly atmosphere is comforting as guests enjoy lunch by the fire in winter and out on the sun soaked terrace in summer. By night the restaurant comes alive as diners and locals make full use of the eye catching bar and indulge in our chefs delicious dishes by candlelight. Our love of new world food is reflected in the menu which takes advantage of seasonal ingredients creating the exciting vibrancy of the homemade food we serve throughout the seasons.

We enjoyed a nice lunch outside in the garden. The fish was delicious and the ice cream with liquor and hot coffee was a delightful way to round off the meal.

The service was attentive and unrushed. Strongly recommend a visit.

User

Visited last night, setting was really comfortable with dim lighting giving a warm atmosphere. Service spot on. Visited once before a couple of months ago and on both occasions service and food have been brilliant. Very attentive staff but not overbearing. Went for T bone steak last night, which was seasoned and cooked beautifully. Will definitely return and recommend to others. Thank you

User

Lovely atmosphere, great service, great food, my husband is a really picky eater & there was something for him on the menu,

They also had the best Santa, he had loads of time to chat to my grandson, when we came out he told us “that was the real Santa you know”

User

I had a lovely baby shower here last Saturday!! The afternoon tea was really lovely and fresh, and the service was also very good! A lovely little area was reserved for us all so felt quite private! I have been here a few times now and look forward to going every time!! Thank you for being part of making my afternoon so special

User

I arranged a surprise birthday in the Fig and olive for last Saturday and have to say everything was perfect. From the initial enquiries, room arrangements, pre orders, service on the day, and of course the food was all fantastic. They function room was amazing and perfect for our party of 30 all sitting down to a 2 or 3 course meal. Special thanks to our waitress Abbie for the night, who made sure everyone got what they ordered and that we were regularly topped up with drinks. All other staff were equally friendly and helpful too, so thanks to everyone in front of house and the kitchen for making my nans 70th surprise special.

User

Had a lovely afternoon tea with my mum and sister. Food was great, nice selection of sandwiches, cakes and scones with jam and cream and plenty too. Lovely setting in the countryside and nice outdoor seating area too if the weather is good. Would recommend

User

Food lovely as is the Fig & Olive itself. Staff very polite, helpful and friendly. Unfortunately the only thing I couldn't eat was the smoked salmon sandwich but it's because I don't like fish - I did try it though. Well done & look forward to going again in the future

User

Celebrated my late Fathers 80th birthday. They found us a table although I booked late. Food and drink delicious. Friendly service. Quite noisy but they were nearly full but great atmosphere at lunchtime. Too hot to sit outside. Quite a few flies but the doors were wide open. Maybe some fly papers needed?. Love the decor and the garden centre and shops next door. My favourite place at the moment and lucky to have it so nearby. I will be back

User

Best meal in a restaurant in a long time. Good choice in all categories but can only recommend what I had which was exceptionally good! - the squid to start and any steak for main but many other good options. Steaks are both tender and flavourful - just excellent as was the peppercorn sauce.

User

Beautiful breakfast!!! Best I’ve had and brilliant service. I had the vegetarian breakfast it was really tasty and big! My friend had the continental and that was great she took some home there was plenty!!

We will definitely return!!

User

Absolutely love the Fig and Olive, every time we’ve eaten here the food has been fabulous- really interesting menus, lovely Sunday lunches and wonderful afternoon teas. I’ve hosted and attended Bridal and Baby showers in the private room and the buffets/food selections have been great every time (when hosting the staff were very friendly and helpful during booking and on the day itself).

The shop and Garden centre are both lovely too and visiting it makes a great morning out, On Sunny days it’s gorgeous to eat outside in the courtyard area. Over all it’s one of my favourite local places to come to.

User

Absolutely fabulous food ... staff are so helpful and attentive. Cater for allergies x fantastic x had a wonderful gluten free afternoon tea. The best I’ve ever had

User

Went for Sunday lunch yesterday for our daughter's 30th birthday in the private room. Staff couldn't have been more helpful & pleasant. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The roast was excellent with good portion sizes & the cheesecake was the best I've ever tasted! Highly recommended.

User

Came on tuesday for my husbands 70th birthday absolutely brilliant the food was to die for we had rib eye steaks cooked to perfection and cheese cake would highly recommend the fig and olive just love it xx

User

What is the matter with this place.Every time I go, the service is poor. Went with my husband for lunch Thursday at 2pm, I had booked a table. The place was quiet with lots of staff floating about. We ordered cocktails. 20 minutes later our food order was taken (no drinks) we had to ask twice for the drinks which arrived minutes before the starters ( 45 minutes later)

Our bill was wrong and we were double charged on main course.

I really don’t know why we bother, because they certainly do not seem to care.

User

We were there yesterday for the grand opening at Forage and having spent a considerable amount of money, we decided we needed a coffee...

25 mins after ordering 4 coffees and 2 soft drinks we finally got our drinks, we then had to wait another 15 minutes for a glass of tap water and another 2 coffees!!

Guess what though... the bill was at our table less than a minute after asking for it.

Service was ridiculously poor given that there were 10 staff members in and around the bar- this needs to improve if they want return custom

User

Very disappointed. Went there today ordered our drinks then our meal I ordered sirloin steak & was told don't think we've got any so I said if you haven't then I'll have a rump steak well done when it came after a long wait it was rare & I had to ask again if it was sirloin or not ,it was rump it had to go back to be cooked again it then came back medium rare so not a very good start to our lunch we then asked for some water the glasses were dirty so had to have them changed..I know that some of the staff were gossiping about us ... but when you are paying for overpriced food you expect to get something that you CAN eat..£15 for a burger..I will not be going there again & would definitely not not recommend it to anyone

User

Turned up this evening to eat in the bar only to be told the kitchens closed due to two big parties....the place was more than half empty and only us two in the bar!!! What's that all about!

User

My friend and I had a meal here today and the service was very poor. We started off with a main course and the quinoa salad was good but a little too hot but that was bearable - we then decided to have more water and a coffee. It was at this point I think we were simply forgotten.

After waiting some considerable time for someone to come to our table, I ended up going to ask for water and 2 cappucinos, not conducive to a good catch up with a friend. Sometime after that we thought someone might ask us if everything was ok and would we like the bill, but we decided we'd have to leave and pay on the way out as we'd been waiting so long.

When paying the bill we were not asked if everything was ok. When I mentioned the poor service at the till there was an apology but nothing about feeding it back to managers. Instead we were given an explanation of them being short staffed and the company who run the restaurant were cutting back. Not a great image of the business to be honest and it's not somewhere I'd recommend as there are so many great places to eat.

It's a shame as it's a nice location, seriously let down by poor service through understaffing.
