Chris returns from his rock star antics for our Christmas Quiz Special.
Always good fun...the banter between the teams just gets better.
Come for a laugh and win the pot to get a round or two in. I'm gonna wear my Christmas jumper...I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna bloody do it.
... See you behind your quiz sheets.

OK Anvillers! We have been made aware of this awesome idea to help keep the homeless warm this Christmas. For years there’s always been a close relationship with Pigeon Park and the alternative scene.
So if you guys wish to donate either take straight to the donation hut at St. Phillips or bring to ya at the bar and we will make sure all your donations will make it to the scheme.
The bar will take all coats that haven’t been claimed since being open...you’d be amazed how man...y they are, clearly you don’t need them so we will find folk that do.
Remember be kind all year round not just this Christmas.

All the usual Christmass aceness from us...just from the dark side.
... There will be Evil Santa giving out goodies...or should that be baddies all night.
Together with our Hammer Smashed Christmas all day event in the top deck.
Fun for all the family...as long as you're over the age of 18.

See you at the bar

We get all sorts of random items left in the bar...my personal favourite is someone left their walking stick. However this Minestrone Soup has got to be up there amongst the most bizarre things to leave behind.

User

Tonight Anvillers we have before and after party fir the little gig down the road...but we also have our own in the top deck if you fancy something less extreme.
***Cash payments only while our PDQ machines are being upgraded. There’s a cash point right outside the bar.***

This Saturday 3rd November at The Wonder that is The Hammer and The Anvil - Rock and a Hard Place! Seeing that Guy Fawkes night is a couple of nights after then, I'm thinking of a Fireworks/Bonfire Night theme to the songs/video's - stay tuned! Big Bad Jon

What a place. Great music Great staff and Great booze. Clean tidy and the place is full of amazing people. Can’t wait to go back. Can’t miss me I’m the one with the great big red beard lol.

User

Went in there for a drink for the first time yesterday afternoon. Was a nice pub. The staff were polite and engaged in conversation. Loved the music and it was a great place to have a drink and a chat with your friends. Will go back next time i am in town :).

User

This place is great good tunes very polite bar staff i was poetically impresed with the bouncer on the door realy nice chap delt with a difficult situation very professionally. I also as i am a drunken mess lost my car keys here i messaged them the next morning and within an hour they replyed saying then had them i have just picked them up all good.

User

This is the place to rock in brum. They play all kinds of metal and rock genres and have live music of the heavy persuasion.

User

Refreshing to discover an awesome venue that as a musician ticks all my boxes. Enthusiastic bar staff, top quality sound tech's and equipment, helpful & friendly bouncers, good management who aren't afraid to advertise, seating areas separated from the performance area helping increase the likelihood of crowd engagement. Think that about covers it... Support this venue!, look after it and it will look after you. Peace

User

Really good rock venue - mainly local bands with loud guitars and drums some touring bands as well - a great addition to Brums Rock scene

User

Love this place! The staff are so lovely, they really make the place. The atmosphere is great, I always feel safe and comfortable. Love the music and the drinks prices are great too.

User

It’s the perfect place to see bands of all tastes. The clientele are only there to enjoy the beer and music. No threat what so ever At a city center pub. Fabulous place

User

I love this bar! The drinks are nice, the beer is clean, its all super reasonably priced too! The staff are lovely, the atmosphere is friendly, and the music is great. Plus a real rarity for a rock bar, the loos are nice and the floor isn't sticky!!

User

Great time great people great place

User

Great place for a meet up.. Music great. Bar staff lovely and have enough room for a large crowd to have fun. Dj played lots of our requests and we all had a good rock out on and off the dance floor.

User

Brilliant friendly rock pub with excellent music and staff all lovely. Me and my friends love this place !

User

Amazing place only made better by the opening of the awesome saloon bar!!!

User

Absolutely luv this place! Came across it by accident a couple of months ago! Only been twice as not local but we luv it that much we (husband & myself!) have decided to book a hotel every few months so we can have a night out there. Being originally from Wolves it definitely takes me back to the days of Fox’s/The Cage, 1st Base & the Dorchester!! Highly recommend the place!!😊🤘🏻

User

Absolutely awesome place. I'm used to metal bars being sweaty and sticky and stinking of piss. But this adds a nice change. Done up nice with rock and metal roots still there. Love to come down and play a gig here some time. 5 star

User

This was our saving grace. I came to Birmingham with the intention of spending my birthday at Eddie's only to find out it's now only on the last Saturday of the month.

The Hammer and The Anvil was a really nice venue and very friendly staff. Had a great night and only slight gripe was that the music could have been a bit heavier.

User

Great bar for metalheads. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and music for everyone's tastes. Not an ideal set up for gigs but considering the restricted lay out they do ok. Will be much better when the proposed upstairs room is opened

User

Totally agree with earlier review. Owner and staff delivhtful but the downstairs dj is rude beyond belief. Surely any dj will watch carefully how many dancers a track will attract. He has his own thrash agenda that is putting many traditional rock/goth visitors off. And there is an increasing number of these visitors. On the night i visited they were in the majority.

User

Sack the downstairs DJ. He's pretentious and arrogant. Refusing to play tunes that he considers not to be metal. Other than that it's a nice pub with a good sound system.
