About The Movement Centre

We are a UK charity providing a specialist therapy, Targeted Training, to help children gain movement control, which can completely change their lives.

The Movement Centre Description

The Movement Centre is a charity helping children to achieve movement control.

Most of us take for granted the ability to control our heads, to sit, stand and walk, however children with cerebral palsy, or other developmental delays, require specialist therapy to help them achieve these. Drawing on specialist physiotherapists and bio-engineers, the Centre has pioneered Targeted Training. Targeted Training is a unique, highly effective and evidence based movement control therapy that works.

We had a visit from Annie and her family yesterday.
She had great fun playing with all the toys, and showed us some fantastic skills she had been practicing at home. Annie is getting on really well with her Targeted Training and yesterday her specialist Physiotherapist added another challenge.
Being held at the lowest point in her standing frame, Annie was showing that is was maybe too easy. A rocking base was added to give her an extra challenge, and we look forward to hea...ring how she gets on.

We had a fantastic day at the Superhero Series Superhero Tri at Dorney Lake.
It is the only mass-participation sports series dedicated to the UK’s 13.3 million people with disabilities. Taking part today in aid of The Movement Centre were a fantastic team of superheroes: Lydia, Darren, Jo and Madison! The event is also supported by a number of celebrities, many taking part in a triathlon too, including Adam Hills, Jonnie Peacock and our patron, Sophie Christiansen CBE, who w...e had a quick catch up with in between races!
Lydia has cerebral palsy, like many of the children who come to The Movement Centre. Lydia and her dad, Darren, took on the challenge of a 400 metre swim and a 10 kilometre bicycle ride. Lydia’s twin sister Madison and their mum Joanne completed the triathlon with a 2.5km run. A brilliant achievement! A huge well done from everyone at TMC!
Lydia and her family are fantastic supporters of our work and have already raised nearly £900 by taking part in today’s event! There is still time to sponsor them: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jo anne-griffiths23
There will be coverage of the event on TV in September - watch this space for details!
If you are interested in taking part in the Superhero Series next event - Winter Wonderwheels find out more here: https://www.the-movement-centre.co.uk/sup erhero-series/

Fundraiser Friday!
Spreading the word, Internationally!
We had a presence in Ireland over the weekend, with one of our own, Polly, being one of them. Her husband and two friends joined her to pound the streets of Dublin for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon.
... Here they are at the start, with their 'Monty' running vests and at the end with their finishing medals. Well done to all of you.

The Movement Centre charity golf day is getting closer, and we are really excited for the day.
Our main sponsor Club Choice Ireland have once again, very kindly donated a golfing break for the pair that win on the day.
We had some kind words sent to us from last years winner from Whittingham Riddell LLP Sam and Josh.
... Sam told us "We had a really good time, it was so easy to organise and arrange times with the travel company, who were very flexible. The hotel and ferry were exactly what we needed for our trip, it gave us a good base to go from which was not too far from either of the courses. The hotel was also a short bus ride in from the city centre, which was perfect to access the city’s attractions and of course temple bar."
He continued to tell us that the golf courses themselves were excellent even with the amount of rain they had the week previous. We had a really good time and would like to thank the movement centre for the opportunity to play in the golf day, as well as the travel company for offering such a brilliant prize.
Want to be in with a chance of winning this years competition? Join us for a fantastic day of golf.

Chloe started her course of Targeted Training with us a few weeks ago. We are looking forward to seeing her next week for her first review, and hearing about how she has got on.
Every year we ask our families to give us feedback on how we could improve our services and their journey at The Movement Centre. We had some great feedback, and we would like to thank all the families that took the time to fill in our survey.
Every family that filled in a survey were put into a draw,... and the winner was Chloe's family. They sent us this fantastic picture of them enjoying their prize, which was a family ticket for Gulliver's Theme Park Resorts
Thank you to Gulliver's World for donating a family ticket so we could treat one of our families.

Last Friday we had the pleasure of having Oliver at The Movement Centre for his first review of his second course.
Oliver had lots of fun in his stander and was showing us his amazing standing, which is one of his goals.
We look forward to seeing Oliver and his cheeky smile again in a few weeks.

It was lovely to see Betsi this week for her final review appointment. Betsi has made brilliant progress during her course of Targeted Training therapy, including her crawling abilities, standing independently and walking greater distances with her Kaye Walker.
She had a great time at her session and particularly loved the sensory trolley from Rhino UK, which was generously funded by Santander UK.
We look forward to seeing Betsi and her lovely smile at her 6 month review appointment.
