Morning fellow dog walkers!
Unfortunately we have had 3 more cancellations. I think itā€™s the right decision to cancel the dog walk for the morning! Never thought I would say itā€™s too hot for a walk but we must look after our furry friends!... Normal service resumes next month.

Two photos of the Oakley kindly brought in by a couple of dear customers! How beautiful the building must have been as a private residence here in 1944. The second photo was taken in the sixties when it was a private members country club! Anyone with any old pictures please share them!

Oakley dog walk has been postponed this month due to illness, all are welcome to come for tea and coffee if you wish to make your own way round. Our official walk will be running next Saturday 12th May, with the usual bacon sarnies. Pop us a comment if you can make next week. Sorry for any inconvenience.

User

We visited the Oakley on Thursday evening for my parentsā€™ Diamond Wedding anniversary. We had a table overlooking the lake. It was absolutely beautiful. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our waitress was really lovely. She had only been working there for a month but she made the evening really special. Thankyou for a memorable evening xxxx

User

We decided to take on the 5 mile walk which my husband went inside to find out, staff were very helpful and gave us the printed out walk. Fantastic walk even if a little wet and muddy under foot. When we arrived back at the pub Easter Sunday our dog was rather muddy but a staff member said she could still go in. We didnā€™t expect to get a table but staff were really helpful saying we couldnā€™t seat till 6:30 because being fully booked. I did ask if we took a table outside could we have a lite bite? Of course was there reply. Very helpful. The food was amazing and we will definitely be back. I can thoroughly recommend the fish cake and the steak burger.

Visited on Saturday 26th May 2018 early afternoon , driving on to car park which is large we were very impressed of how clean & tidy the ground were , lovely gardens and lake , plenty of outside seating ,[this afternoon was partially nice weather ,it being a Bank Holiday w/end , ] I had the Rump Steak sandwich & fries [medium rare] it was extremely enjoyable ,and the fries were piping hot my partner enjoyed the Cod and chips with garden peas , staff were very pleasant , and helpful , very knowledgeable of the products we ordered ,food was served correctly and although quite busy in and outside for food and drinks there was very little waiting every thing was cleared away quickly in between courses , we decided to both have the Sticky toffee pudding & ice cream ,again this was served quickly and of excellent , overall we thoroughly enjoyed our time there that afternoon and will definitely return and would recommend this business for a special occasion or just a relaxed drink in lovely surroundings ,we were impressed by the large range of beers and wines on sale ,

User

Very busy on Saturday when we arrived went to check in and told we were early the rest of our party hadnā€™t arrived we then opened a tab got a drink and sat down the Oakley has gone through a considerable refurb very impressed by finish to decor.

When rest of party arrived we were shown to our table and proceeded to order our food ,when it arrived we were not disappointed perfectly prepared and cooked a joy to eat 5*,the only down side was a party who were extremely noisy shame some people do not know how to behave when out ,will definitely be back enjoyed every part of it

User

Very accommodating having had to change our date at the last minute. Prepared a table with easy access for a disabled member of the party! Served quickly at the bar and very welcoming! Lovely food, excellent service from our waitress. Gorgeous setting and the little 3 year old that was in our party loved seeing the ducks outside! Looking forward to going again even if itā€™s for ā€œhalf a lager and a packet of crispsā€ :-)

User

This was our second impromptu visit, lovely setting and in summer will be fab to sit outside. The food is all freshly cooked and very high quality, the staff are very friendly and will help you with everything. The menu is really affordable in price and good value. Would highly recommend the Oakley arms.

User

Our first visit, and it was for our second wedding anniversary, we had a fairly early table as I was driving (from Newport) and knew I'd fancy a few drinks back in our town after dining. We were politely and efficiently received and seated, and found the floor staff to be fully attentive. Our order was taken for starters and mains once we had made our decisions, and the food came.. It was thoroughly enjoyable; I'd had the pigeon breast starter and my wife had garlic mushrooms, both were delicious. Mains, I had a rump steak (a very good rump and cooked exactly as a rare should be) and my better half had the venison suet which were both lovely. We progressed to deserts, I had a hot waffle with rum and raisin ice cream, and my lady had a cheeseboard and port. Again, lovely.

Lovely premises, pleasant and attentive staff, and clearly run with care, would certainly recommend.

User

Had a good time celebrating my dads 70th birthday staff were frienfly and helpful - although we found a few dog hairs in a couple of meals which the manager tried to assure us it was ā€œjust cheeseā€ they did however take those meals off the bill - we would go back

User

Excellent service, Beautiful home cooked roast dinner (roast potatoes ļæ½) ... it was a special day 17 years ago we married at the ā€œOakleyā€ loved sitting on the terrace looking over the lake & reminisce ļæ½ Highly recommend.

User

Did the dog walk this morning! Was fabulous! The pub gave meat eaters bacon sandwiches and as Iā€™m a veggie gave me a plate of flapjacks! Free tea and coffee then off for the walk. Was so lovely to see all the dogs running and playing together! Didnā€™t hear a nasty growl off any of them! Thank you! Will be back next month!! ļæ½

User

Can I firstly say I absolutely love this pub, the staff are lovely and friendly and the food is amazing, however every time I visit I can never have my favourite strawberry gin and tonic in the appropriate glass and always have to have a long glass and somehow the experience is never really the same. When I ask, the bar staff always say "the gin glasses are out" so please just a suggestion to make my visit even more enjoyable you need more gin glasses!xx

User

Always a special experience visiting a B & P pub/restaurant. We've been to several. We occasionally like to make one the focus of a day out. The Oakley Arms is our most local and used when we want to impress family or special visitors. We were able to eat out on the terrace yesterday afternoon on our latest visit enjoying the view overlooking the pretty pool. (The inside is also excellent with a real "feel good" factor). Varied menu freshly printed daily is a nice touch. Hate laminated menus. Staff friendly throughout. Recommended....

User

Lovely place, friendly staff, nice food, lots of gin choices ..... but ... they do not have any gin glasses, so there happy to serve you a Ā£6 or Ā£7 gin in a totally inadequate glass for the drink... a pub like this that demands these prices , thats really poor

User

Having had what can only be described as one of the best beef roasts Iā€™d ever tasted a few weeks ago, we returned to the Oakley with friends yesterday looking forward to more of the same.

I left feeling totally deflated. The beef was certainly not pink ( as described on the menu ), the roast potatoes were rock hard & the sauce in side order of cauliflower cheese was like water.

My wife & our friend had a dessert, lemon posset ( which had to be returned as it hadnā€™t set & was again like water ) & apple & rhubarb crumble ( very thin cold custard ).

We use this place regularly & have never had cause to complain before & only hope it was just a bad day at the office.

We will return again soon & hope the standard of food has improved.

User

Food was Ok, would have been better if it came out as it was described on menu. Waited ages for our drinks and the starters ended up coming out before them.

Overall the service was very slow.

User

Not a good experience today at The Oakley. Me and my husband waited around 20mins to be served for drinks, another further wait when ordering the food and more drinks which would be bought out to us to save us from standing at the bar.

Food came, we were asked if we wanted any sauces... requested mayo which never came.

We ate our whole meal and still no sign of the drinks!

Not impressed, so many people were complaining and the answer was 'we are under staffed' clever that on a sunny bank holiday weekend ļæ½

Not a good experience at all, such a shame.

User

Today was my first visit but unfortunately I canā€™t actually comment on my meal as it never actually arrived!!! Came for lunch and after waiting over 45 minutes for our starter we enquired how much longer our food would be...to be told the waitress hadnā€™t put the food order in and had since gone home! Great! We didnā€™t bother sticking around after this as we had to pick our son up from school and didnā€™t have time to eat. Iā€™d been looking forward to going for a long time and this has put me off visiting again or recommending to anyone else. Our 2 drinks were on the house, but forgetting to even put an order through to the kitchen...canā€™t say Iā€™ve ever experienced that in a restaurant before! Poor show guys!

User

So disappointed. Poor service. Food was a joke. My steak would have been warmer if it had been left outside in the sun. Drinks must have come from a pub 2 counties away as it took so long for them to come. Some of the other mains came with what can only be described as branches of conifer. One plus, free WiFi.

User

Poor service a month ago when we were forgot at the bar finally seated an hour after the time we booked for. The waitress was extremely appoligetic and issued us vouchers for a meal. Went today arriving at 11:20 planning on having a drink to then order food at 12 we stood at the bar for 10 minutes to not even be spoken to. We have now taken our custom else where. The food is great here but without the service its nothing. Starting to give up on the oakley.

This was our second impromptu visit, lovely setting and in summer will be fab to sit outside. The food is all freshly cooked and very high quality, the staff are very friendly and will help you with everything. The menu is really affordable in price and good value. Would highly recommend the Oakley arms.

Had a good time celebrating my dads 70th birthday staff were frienfly and helpful - although we found a few dog hairs in a couple of meals which the manager tried to assure us it was ā€œjust cheeseā€ they did however take those meals off the bill - we would go back

Excellent service, Beautiful home cooked roast dinner (roast potatoes ļæ½) ... it was a special day 17 years ago we married at the ā€œOakleyā€ loved sitting on the terrace looking over the lake & reminisce ļæ½ Highly recommend.

Thank you! Will be back next month!! ļæ½

Food was Ok, would have been better if it came out as it was described on menu. Waited ages for our drinks and the starters ended up coming out before them.

Overall the service was very slow.
