New wheelchairs to better serve the needs of patients have been purchased at RJAH by the hospital’s League of Friends.
The Portering team are responsible for transporting patients to the hospital services they require, but due to increased activity within the hospital their fleet of wheelchairs was struggling to keep up with demand.
Frank Riley, Head Porter, said: “On behalf of the Portering Team I would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks and appreciation to the League of Friends for the fantastic donation of funds to purchase 10 corridor wheelchairs. This will make a massive difference in transporting patients throughout the hospital as we currently have a shortage of chairs due to increased activity at the hospital.”

Over 125 walkers joined together to trek up Mount Snowdon in memory of Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Professor James Richardson, an enthusiastic supporter of the event who sadly passed away earlier this year, and young RJAH patient, Stuart Dickens.
The walk also raised nearly £6,000 for a ground-breaking Veterans' Orthopaedic Centre.

A brand new, state-of-the-art CT scanner has been unveiled in the Radiology department at RJAH, following a £1million investment.
Staff in the Radiology department say patients are already benefitting from the new piece of equipment, due to it being quicker and also producing higher quality scans.
Resembling a giant Polo Mint, the machine can scan a staggering 320 slices per rotation, producing extremely detailed images that provide a diagnosis to help guide a patient’s care and treatment.

Today some of our staff were visited by members of God Bless the NHS, as part of their walk across Wales (and over the border). During their travels, they're stopping off at hospitals, pharmacies, health centres and dentists across the country to express their gratitude to staff for the work they do, to celebrate the NHS turning 70.
They dropped in with small gifts including chocolate and knitted goods to personally thank staff for their hard work.
The group visited our staff on Oswald, Kenyon and Ludlow wards. Thank you to the group for putting a smile on everyone's faces!

User

excellent doctors, nurses, staff at this hospital. ive had a few ops here now under Mr Dodenhoff and Mr Moreau lovely manners and never too busy to speak with you.

The nurses and staff on Baschurch and Ludlow very busy but still very approachable and friendly.

Also the theatre staff and porters so friendly and always makes you feel relaxed, needs some new jokes though, especially after that special medicine :)

And not forgetting the Pre op assessment staff always on the go especially the dynamic duo Jane and Bev thank you for all the banter and laughs.

Like I said fabulous hospital everyone friendly and welcoming

so hopefully 1 more check up then you might have rid of me at last. :)

Thank you everyone x

Visited today with my better half for a first appointment.

Firstly parking is £2:50 all day which is a pleasant change.

All the reception staff are pleasant and make you feel really at ease.

A scan was completed almost on arrival then a superb unhurried meeting with a consultant to discuss results etc.

We both agreed that the service here is second to none.

Thank you all.

User

The standard of service and care provided before, during and after my total knee replacement by Mr Roach and his amazing team is outstanding. The Theatre team were so relaxing, fantastic Anaesthetist. I don't know where to begin about the staff on Powys Ward they deserve an accolade all of their own, everyone of them including the Physios. They took a scary and painful experience and made it as pain free and positive an experience as possible without allowing any wussing out. I don't think thank you goes anywhere near enough for what they do every day.

User

Thank you to the hospital, Dr Cribb and the amazing team on the Alice ward for looking after my son Danny when he had an operation there Tuesday. They were so kind/caring and patient with him. Thank you so much

User

Thank you to all the staff who are totally amazing. Mr S Lewthwaite who performed the surgery. Cleanliness and care throughout is second to none.

User

RJAH Sheldon Ward Nursing Team, Swimming Pool Staff and the Physiotherapy Team are a huge asset to the hospital and patients that visit.

The care and compassion as well as support was very much appreciated by me during my stay as inpatient this week to help me in my long journey to mobility - Thank you.

User

Many thanks to all the staff on Powys Ward. They are all hard work and very professional. Mr Karlakki and his team are excellent, I could not ask for better care from a Surgeon.

User

Lovely hospital this and the staff are always great to talk to. Spent some time here with my late partner who was a patient for life and he always had great care and didn't mind visiting the hospital with anything he needed. Would recommend this hospital to anyone with spinal problems.

User

Just got back home from a daycare knee surgery. I can’t fault anything, the whole team from the consultant to the Porter were so attentive. I felt like a person and not a number and the whole experience was stress free. I would not recommend anywhere else after today. It has honestly been my best hospital visit. Well done.

User

Just completed my second round of shockwave therapy on my foot under Dr Makwana . I travel from Stoke as it is not available here but the staff at RJAH are brilliant, waiting times kept to a minimum and I find the hospital is run very well and it is kept clean.

User

I would like to thank Mr. Van Liefland and all the staff on the Baschurch day ward for all their care and expertise. Although it was just minor surgery on my hand, I couldn't have wished for a finer team throughout. I was very apprehensive about the procedure but they all put me at ease and the whole experience I couldn't fault. The RJAH is a first class hospital.

User

I want to say how grateful I am to have been given the opportunity to attend the pain management course last July. Today was my final check up with Luke Rushton. I have come a long way since attending and I am now able to manage my pain without daily pain relief medication after back problems for 25 years. Luke, Roger, Caroline and Kevin have offered support above and beyond what they needed to and I will always be thankful for this.

It is a shame that the course is not going to run in future as so many more patients could benefit from this. I am one of the lucky ones.

Thank you to all the staff at the hospital.

User

I have just returned home from a total hip replacement and I can’t thank the staff enough. They did everything over and above. Nothing was too much trouble. My consultant surgeon Mr Whittaker was brilliant and the team around him was top class. Thank you again. You are all brilliant and should be proud. Well done Ludlow ward you are amazing people.

User

I can't praise this hospital and its staff highly enough. I had been treated at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford (local to me) and had undergone 3 operations on my right knee that had proven to be unsuccessful. The only solution was a partial or total knee replacement, but due to my age (46), the NOC would not carry out the procedure. I asked to be referred to the veterans service at the RJAH and despite a slight muddle on the hospitals admin side I was treated extremely well, professionaly and personally. I arrived for my first consultation after a 3 hour drive to be told I wasn't expected (despite me having a text reminder and a letter!!). Due to the distance, the staff squeezed me in with Mr White rather than Lt Col Meyer. Within half an hour of meeting him, (considering he had no idea about my history other than looking at my scans and X-rays on the NHS system I was told that they would carry out a PKR. Within 8 weeks, I had had my pre op and was in for surgery. As it was snowing heavily on my discharge date, the ward staff on Ludlow ward arranged for the hospitals own transport to drive me 143 miles home!!! The operation was a success (I think) as 6 weeks later I was walking without crutches after nearly 2 years of needing them. Yes, I still ache (10 weeks later) and have a bit of tenderness, but I am improving each week. Why the RJAH are able to provide such superb treatment and care when other hospitals can't or won't, I do not know. What I do now is that I would heartily recommend this hospital and staff to anybody needing orthopaedic help. Brilliant place.

User

I am about to be discharged from Ludlow ward today following a Total Hip Replacement last Thursday aged 41. I cant express enough my gratitude to ALL the fantastic people who have cared for me during my 4 days here. Ive been under the absolutely brilliant surgeon Mr Whittaker & his team who were totally BRILLIANT throughout my surgery, appreciating my nerves & fears all the time. The people who looked after me post op were absolutely fantastic - your professionalism & care is OUTSTANDING, from the cheery porters & housekeepers to the happy, approachable & so caring day & night staff on the ward & the brilliant physio guys who got me up & walking on my crutches on day 2 & showering & dressing myself today on day 4!Every single person was so friendly ,caring & attentive, Ive felt so cared for & safe going through a major operation - which I was terrified of. I cannot thank you all enough you do a fantastic job & should be so proud of yourselves. Thankyou for everything.

God bless the NHS.

12 months today I had a total hip replacement done at Robert Jones Agnes Hunt Hosp in Oswestry.

I had my operation date within 2 days of seeing my Consultant.

From my initial assessment to operation was just less than 7 weeks.

I was in hospital for 2 days.

The doctors, the nurses, x ray, physios, staff, admin, cleaners and everyone involved are people to be proud of. The benefit to me has been immeasurable! . I would like to say "thank you" to everyone in our NHS.

Please share with those you know work for the NHS.

Fantastic staff from the surgeon and theatre staff to the HCA on Clwyd ward. Nothing was too much trouble, they really care about you and your welfare and made my stay comfortable and reassuring. Thank you to you all, you are amazing !

User

Fantastic hospital. Spent one night on Oswald Ward following stem cell therapy on my ankle performed by Mr Makwana. All members of staff from admission through to theatre and on to the ward were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble, and the hospital itself is immaculate. Highly recommended and I am so glad I had my treatment here. Now on to recovery

Thank You

I am writing to thank you all so very much for the amazing care and help you gave me following my recent hip replacement surgery. I was with you from 4th to 9th January.

Your professionalism is outstanding and you deliver your service with 100% care and dedication.

Teamwork is obviously very important to you and is plainly a key element in providing the excellent care which you do.

We were also able to have a few “laughs along the way” which meant a great deal to me and helped get me through an experience which could be alien and stressful at times.

The RJAH and NHS are very fortunate to have such a wonderful Team in you.

I’m already feeling the benefit of the surgery with the degenerative linked pain in the hip now gone and feel so lucky to live in a time when such surgery is available and can be delivered by such clever, caring and skilled professionals.

Thank you all again, I will forever be in your debt.

We appreciate them!

Fantastic staff from the surgeon and theatre staff to the HCA on Clwyd ward. Nothing was too much trouble, they really care about you and your welfare and made my stay comfortable and reassuring. Thank you to you all, you are amazing !
