You just have to stop here ! We were lucky enough to book at very short notice but only because they had had a cancellation. There is nothing not to like about this place, rooms are really clean, amazing beds ( if we could have packed it we would ! Lol ) the owners are awesome ensuring everything was as we wanted it. Evening meal was just lovely, home Cooked and piping hot, wine selection was very good and very very reasonable .. hence the two bottles we had ! Lol. Ate and drank outside as weather was excellent and such a lovely setting. Breakfast was totally awesome, made to order by Nikki with locally sourced ingredients .... Black Pudding, Bacon and Sausage to die for and choice of Hen or Duck Egg, we both had Locally laid Duck Eggs which were gorgeous. Village is lovely and Brian explained the connection with Jane Eyre and lots more over Breakfast whilst ensuring we were topped up with freashly made coffee, we were so impressed by his knowledge of the area we went for a walk to the places he described before we left. The Pepperpot Gateposts are amazing ! . Thanks to Nikki, Brian and the rest of the team for making our last minute trip so memorable. Sylvia and Andrew Walsh, Halifax, West Yorkshire.

What a lovely place. Amazing staff. Highly recommended. Best food with a lovely taste and all fresh stuff. And on second day a glass of champagne each for me and wife to be. Very very friendly people.

User

We stayed overnight at the Shoulder of Mutton after visiting the National Memorial Arboretum. We arrived around 5.00pm greeted by Nikki who was very welcoming. What a friendly little pub. Good food and drink and the rooms were lovely. Spotlessly clean. We will definitely return on our next visit to The Arboretum. Thank you Nikki and staff .

User

We stayed for 1 night as we planned to visit the bluebells at Lodge Hill Bluebells, whilst the weather was not great, we found the pub to be a great place to stay , very friendly staff, our evening meal was delicious , the room had a large comfy bed and a spa bath, and our little Pug dog was made welcome lots of choice for breakfast hope to stay again as the bluebells were stunning even on a rainy day.

Sunday lunch today for 8 of us. First class food and very friendly service. Could t fault the Roast Beef dinner - tender meat, massive Yorkie and loads of veg. Decor lovely. Highly recommended!

User

Stayed for one night. A lovely location. The food was great, breakfast was superb. Could not fault the service that the staff provided. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was beautiful and spotless. Great attention to detail. We hope that there is another concert in the Chase so that we can stop again !

User

Only been here a few hours and already feel at home, very friendly people who can’t do enough for you! They also like feeding you so if you’re on a diet you’re going to have problems a definite 5 out of 5 from the Weeks clan

User

Lovely place, very rural and quiet, nice food and really friendly staff. If you fancy a country break or are on business, it’s a perfect place to go. 10/10

I was trying to find a hotel that would accept dogs halfway between Manchester and Bristol to meet up with my parents and this one came up. The owner/staff were all amazing, going above and beyond in order to make us comfortable - making us food after the kitchen had closed, finding a local mechanic to fix the engine cover that had fallen off our car on our way to the hotel, nothing was too much trouble. The beds were very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent too - we were very impressed for such a reasonable price! Will definitely be back!

User

We stayed for one night with our two Cockapoos as we were going to Doodlefest the next day. I can’t praise the staff (and other clientele) high enough, they were super-friendly and very accommodating to both us and our dogs. One thing about breakfast, if you want the full English then don’t have dinner the night before!! I saved a sausage from my breakfast for the dogs and the chef gave me more for them which we shared with one of the other canine guests. My only reason for not awarding 5 stars is that the room was a little dated (but perfectly adequate) and a little cramped as it had two double beds in a size better suited to one king size but great value for money. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend 😊

User

Spent two nights here with my wife while visiting the nation al Memorial Arboretum. This is a lovely olde world pub with a smashing choice of real ales and spirits at reasonable prices. The locals are friendly. I would love this as my local pub. Very good food selection at reasonable prices to be eaten in the bar or in the quaint restaurant. Excellent breakfast and I cannot praise the staff too much. They were very attentive and caring. On the down side, we had one of the attic rooms which was up two flights of rickety stairs. The room and bathroom were small and spartan but adequate. I saw the other rooms which were much better. Just the luck of the draw I guess. The view was lovely but difficult to see through a loft window. Would have been 5 stars if not for the room.Thank you. Will definitely visit again.

User

This is a lovely pub in beautiful countryside. One of the reasons I booked it was because of good breakfast reviews. When we got there the girl said breakfast was served between 8.30-10.30. I said we had to leave at 8. We were offered a pack lunch, which we didn’t want. When I went to return the key in the morning at just gone 8 people were having breakfast!!! I felt a bit cheated! But because I was in a rush and literally going out of the door I didn’t query it. Probably miscommunication.
