We're delighted to announce AIRWAYS as the main support for The XCERTS on March 1.
For Airways, “rather die trying to make it than die not trying to make it! Do or do not, there is no try” is the band’s ethos. Perfectly in line with their ethos, the story of Airways is one about taking chances and risks.
The story of how Airways formed is an unusual one. Singer/Songwriter Jake Daniels was on a writing trip in Los Angeles building his repertoire of solo songs, and crashing at ...his manager’s house. On night one of his stay, Jake met Chicago native Brian Moroney, who also happened to be staying in the same house while on tour as a drummer. The two hit if off famously and at the end of the trip, half-serious, half in jest, Jake invited him out to the UK to help start a band.
Two months later, Brian left his home in Chicago and was standing on Jake’s doorstep in Peterborough, UK.
Add in Jake’s long-time hometown friend Alex Ruggiero on guitar and Birmingham musician Jamie Reynolds on bass, and Airways was born.

Top venue, friendly staff and got to see the mighty Orange Goblin again

User

Tinned Astronaut were outstanding. Great sound quality & plenty of space to mosh it up or just stand back & appreciate the music but still be close enough to feel like an intimate venue. Polite, welcoming ticket & doorstaff with efficient & fun folk behind the bar. Sofas-good, Photo booth-top idea. Top night!

User

The Slade rooms is a fantastic venue and the staff are awesome, really helpful in setting up our performance of Leasungspell, thanks guys you made us feel really welcome and the sound was totally spot on :-)

User

Second time in the venue can't fault it at all staff are always willing to help you excellent venue will be there again I'm sure 🖒🖒🖒decent bar prices too can't recommend it enough could do with a smoking area though that's the only downside

L.A.Guns! Fantastic night! Love the seperate bar area and the live room is superb and intimate yet somehow spacious. Love the place! Only one issue for me, i could not hear Tracii Guns, their lead guitarist and he wz probly a big draw for a lot of the audience, that said, i can only presume the band had their own sound engineer, if so i can hardly fault the venue. May i add the sound 'quality' itself was awesome. L.A.G blew me away btw!!! 🤘😎🤘

Great venue ..been many times and am regularly impressed by the calibre of bands booked..last night STONE BROKEN with another 3 great rock bands ..at a 10a.. such superb value ..other local venues ( the one with a red breast ..hint, hint) could learn a lesson...

User

A grand venue, though room not acoustically magnificent. Friendly door and bar staff and decent Peroni at just over three quid a pint was a bonus. Some little quirks like an eleven o clock curfew for a band in a uni area on a Thursday night which didn't appear to be residential??? Being very politely asked at ten to eleven at the bar if I needed any more as it was closing..???? ".... The refreshing experience of a barmaid politely refusing a tip as" I'm just doing my job "..???... A quaint worthwhile venue which left me feeling it didn't want to make money . Is it possibly run by the council or the church ..???... It was bang opposite the Soup Kitchen /Night Shelter. A great night though, I'd definitely visit again...

Small sized venue that can attract some great bands. Only problems are the two pillars which block the view and no air con. If it's a busy night can feel like a sauna. Sought these issues and a good venue becomes a great one.

User

Nice little venue for great acts to ply their music

User

Great cosy little place. If you're there for a venue be prepared for £4.50 for a pint of Hooch. The stage is a little small, not a problem for the crowd but the people up there don't have much flexibility for their performance.

User

First visit and a good venue, sound quality was excellent but could see there being viewing issues with the posts in the room if you ended up stood in the wrong place!

User

The concert itself was fantastic, the bar staff friendly, but the crowd surfers being allowed back into the show, as I saw the same culprits crowd surfing multiple times was a ridiculous move. Getting kicked in the head multiple times kinda ruins the experience....

User

Sound was fab but, those 2 pillars in front of the stage really make it a limited view venue from most places. When the building was built it was not designed to be a live music venue!

User

I really like the Slade Rooms as a venue however the two massive pillars in front of the stage really mess up the view. Getting a drink is always a slow process too. Other than that it's s great place.

User

Great place smaller the better watched the Quireboys last nite was awesome. ...great venue great sound....not fault it....

User

Good little venue...that said the gig was a sell out and only 4 bar staff were on. We arrived about 40 minutes before band went on and had to get a pass out and go to the nearest pub to get a drink

User

Glad the sound has been sorted out now so the bands are heard properly. It was very cold in there last night had to keep my coat on all night. Also as a driver I was disappointed to find no none alcoholic drinks other than pop. Why when you sell Becks Blue at the civic but not the slade rooms?

User

A small cosy venue, gets very hot in while watching performances because there is no air circulating. Otherwise it is nice for an intimate gig.

The bar staff are however on annother plannet altogether. I was waiting ages to get served when it wasn't even that busy. I had to seriously explain that I wanted a double in my coke not a double and a seperate coke. The second time I got overcharged only this time I got it in a small tumber that was sharp around the rim. I may aswell had just slapped my money down and said "supprise me."

User

If you're able bodied this is a great venue. If you're disabled, forget it. I tried repeatedly over the space of a week to contact the venue via various email addresses and telephone numbers to book a seat for a recent gig. I have spinal arthritis, arthritis affecting a number of other joints, and CFS/ ME so standing for the duration of a gig is beyond me. I didn't receive any response to emails sent to two separate email addresses, one phone number just rang out unanswered, and the second number had an array of robotic options that just ended up giving me the phone numbers for Ticketmaster and Ticketline. As I'd booked through Seetickets, these were useless. I understand that the fault here lies with Wolverhampton Civic rather than the Slade Rooms themselves, but the booking experience was stressful as well as ultimately being futile.

Luckily for me I knew the promoter of the gig I was going to and he sorted me out with a bar stool in a little cordoned off area to the far left of the stage. There was just enough room for myself perched precariously on my bar stool, propped up with my walking stick, and a lady in a wheelchair who incidentally also had identical problems in trying to book. The disabled area had a very limited narrow diagonal view from stage left (we were trying to peer around a sound stack and the crowd partition at the front centre of the venue juts out ) to the point where we could only see the performers at the centre and far end of the stage.

During the gig, our little disabled area was invaded by a very drunk/ stoned and very entitled young lady who proceeded get in front of myself and the lady in the wheelchair and dance in the very small line of sight that we did have to the stage, blocking our view entirely. The venue security did nothing to move her, so I stood up (aided by my trusty walking stick) and repeatedly explained that she was in the disabled area and was obstructing the view of both the lady in the wheelchair and me. As this had no effect, I ushered her out of the disabled area myself and perched back on my bar stool.

A male friend of the young lady then felt it appropriate to come into the disabled area, shove his middle finger up into my face, and then loom over me, shoving his face into mine, and call me an effing arsehole who thought she was effing special on her seat (I'm guessing he still hadn't noticed the walking stick or the lady in the wheelchair next to me). He continued to scream into my face whilst a security man stood and watched. I asked the security man if he worked there and if was going to do anything, and he ignored me. The tirade of abuse continued even when I pointed out again to the man that he and his friend had invaded the disabled area. When I pointed to a sign on the partition between the disabled area and the main body of the public, the charming gentleman reacted in sheer temper and slammed the partition into my left leg, causing bruising. He then carried on screaming abuse about me being "effing special" from the other side of the barrier and only left me alone when my husband and a friend had a go at him and explained again about the principles of, and purpose of, disabled seating. Security did absolutely nothing during the whole incident. If you read this and recognise yourself as the bullying cretin involved, get help for your anger issues before either you get arrested or someone who CAN fight back plants you one.

Whilst the gig itself was brilliant (a huge thank you to The Birthday Massacre), it wasn't worth the stress of trying with no avail to book disabled facilities only to end up perched precariously on a bar stool and have my evening ruined by being verbally and physically assaulted by an entitled idiot with no clue as to what disabled facilities are for. I'd love to be up bouncing around at gigs like I used to and I'm trying my hardest to still indulge my passion for live music, but this whole incident has left me shaken and upset.

Slade Rooms and Wolves Civic, you've got to do better.
