About The Weaver'S House
The Weaver’s House is a special place to visit in Spon End, Coventry. It is a medieval house that has been restored to show life in 1540.
The Weaver'S House Description
The Weaver's House
In Spon Street, one of the most historic streets in Coventry, a terrace of six cottages built in 1455 has been brought back to life. One of the cottages has been restored to show how it would have looked in 1540.
This shows how John Croke, a Coventry narrow-loom weaver and his family would have lived and worked. You can also see a replica of the loom that he would have used.
Medieval Garden
At the back of the Weaver’s House is a medieval garden showing the plants that would have been grown for food, flavouring, medicine and household use.
Open Days
At our free open days you can hear talks about the life of John Croke and the history of the buildings. Open Days can include demonstrations of weaving, spinning, embroidery and other activities connected with medieval life.
Entry is free, but we are grateful if you can make a small donation.

Kidderminster's Museum of Carpet is weaving together history for new generation.
Displays give an insight into the lives of the people who worked on the looms and the entrepreneurs who developed the business. The museum features two working power looms - an Axminster spool loom and an early 20th century Wilton Jacquard loom - as well as hand looms operated by volunteers.
Visitors can also find out how carpets were designed and even have a go at creating their own design.
Wonderful place to visit and the volunteers are so full of information
What a beautiful amazing place and well done to all the volunteers who keep this quant place going xxx
Very interesting but we missed the last tour. Will definitely visit again when they reopen in the Spring. The herb garden was lovely. The volunteer guides were very helpful and made us welcome.
This is a wonderful place. To think how many times I must have walked past the Weaver's House and never realised it was there, it really is a hidden gem. The volunteers are amazing and so knowledgeable about the building and garden. The children loved it too, they've been a few times now, it really helps bring history to life for them (and me!).
It's an amazing place to visit. I take my grandchildren along . You can try some weaving while you are there. Very welcoming
I have a special connection with the Weaver's House and volunteer there on Open Days. It's s joy to see so many visitors who are enthusiastic, interested, fascinated in the house, it's history and the history of Coventry. And many have their own stories and memories to add to the mix. History keeps on living.
Had a really interesting afternoon, amazing place! Really feel a connection with the past and our historical City by visiting here. Thank you to the volunteers who clearly do a great job.
Gem of a historical building. Well worth the visit.
Been many times, but yesterday was the Cutting of the Coventry Blue Ceremony.
A little jewel in Coventry.....our children (and us) really enjoy the open days. Beautifully restored and knowledgable volunteers. Thank you!
A Medieval oasis - will be returning May.
