To all our guests who are visiting us today please be aware that there is a bike race in Newport so allow for traffic however there are alternative routes and we are open as normal.

To all our breakfast guests..... essential maintenance will be carried out on Monday 3rd September, so we will not be serving breakfast. We will re-open for lunch at 11.30am. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Went Sunday for my first roast at the 'Carvery, with my fiancé. We had nice time, lovely food and drink, couldn't put bad thing on it tbf, staff and kitchen staff were very nice and polite, 10/10 for overall visit, only query as me and my partner found it bit warm maybe put Air con' on as even one of staff members agreed with me how hot it was. But besides that can't wait for our next visit. Thank you very much all!! 👍🏻😁

Very nice evening with my partner last night food was delicious as everytime we visit , even though we didn't arrive until gone 7.30 there was plenty of food available and was all hot and fresh, selection of meat was fantastic and cooked to perfection , staff was very friendly and most helpfull so thanks to everyone for a fab welcome �

Although very busy we opted to eat in the bar. Staff were very helpful especially the lady behind the bar showing my wife how the Toby App worked. Our food was outstanding, I had beef and Gammon which is always my favourite, the veg was nice and fresh and replenished quickly. Overall a great meal. One suggestion, I would get the loose paving stones fixed quickly as there were a lot marked up with yellow paint on the path to the car park.

Very good lovely waitress very attentive, plus girl carving the meat even though very hot was friendly and very helpful to elderly person in front of us. My friend from Northern Ireland thought it was fab could do with one in Enniskillen

With friends we are regular users of this restaurant and always enjoy the roasts and especially the variety of vegetables. On. tonight's visit however we were very disappointed.Most of the veg has obviously been out for a long time and had overcooked from the heat of the hotplate. The mashed potato with apple looked interesting but was so dry it wouldn't come off the serving spoon. The green beans had been there so long they were turning yellow! The peas and carrots were the best of the bunch. By the way,have you reduced the size of the Ice cream sundaes? (Didn't like to complain as our friends were paying!!) On the Plus side, the staff were great, especially Angela and Clare.

Very nice meal and helpful staff. The red plastic chairs are becoming warn, the recently refurbished Toby at Cardiff Gate is great and really pleased to see Toby are returning to a more homely look and feel. Maybe you could answer one question why did you stop providing the delicious poultry gravy beef gravy really is not good with turkey!

We moved to Wales just over 2 years ago and it was great food good size portions etc etc. But since the last refurbishment the standards seem to have fallen quite considerably. Prices are good. But they seem to have become very mean with portions and standards of cleanliness of the plates. Really think you need to check your dishwasher as there were dirty plates in the stack yesterday morning. I had to dig deep to get a clean one. Please get your act together

Granted it was a Sunday but knowing the carvery was going to be so busy there was a lot of chaos and on a boiling hot day like yesterday you'd think such a large chain of restaurant would invest in air conditioning as it was so uncomfortable it just made for an unpleasant experience.

As for the food the beef was full of fat and the veg very dry so much so I couldn't eat mine and wasn't charged for it which was fine but made the journey pointless.

We visit toby regularly but this was a dreadful experience and certainly won't be revisiting the coldra establishment again unfortunately

Basically dirty glasses last twice I’ve been and forks and knives ain’t been clean and basically staff just cleaning off food counter and wiping it off onto floor and the food available is less and meat is skingy sort it out Toby I’ve always liked going I’m thinking not coming back

Visited the Toby carvery in newport yesterday and was told there would be a 2 hour wait, we waited then when the 2 hours were up there was no sign of a table being available we asked how much longer to get a table and was told we were only 10 minutes over the waiting time after another 10 minutes of waiting I decided to go up to complain only to be told again we were only 10 minutes over the waiting time when I explained we ad already been told this she didn't seem to care or understand that we had already been waiting 2 hours and 20 minutes she seemed baffled by this but within 5 minutes we finally ad a table only to notice that there were empty tables with used dishes that hadn't been cleared, surely if the tables ad been cleared faster and there wouldn't have been the need to have waited 2 hours and 25 minutes for lunch I have been to the the same Toby for lunch on numerous occasions and always found it to be very pleasant but this time the service we received was very poor and will not be returning in the future, we will definitely be dining somewhere else from now on

Terrible service waited 30 mins for a glass to come so we had to get up and get glasses our self's we had asked the staff for glasses twice our table was still dirty and we asked them just to wipe it we ended up just moving all the old plates our self's and wiping the table with napkins had a really bad experience been in loads of tobys but this is the worse by far

Recommend that people do NOT eat HERE! have ate here reguarlly but will never eat here again and will tell people about my experience. Took my partner out for a carvery. The selection was poor. I opted for the beef and she opted for the turkey. The turkey was dried out and hard yet the beef was undercooked. I knew as soon as I tasted it that something was not right.

As soon as I left the carvery I felt unwell. Later that night I was sick several times to the point where I was rushed into hospital and they confirmed that I had food poisoning !! I'm thankful I didn't take my young daughter with me ! Absolutely disgusting! This restaurant should be shut DOWN! ���

I will not be returning to the toby. We went to the toby in Newport today and what a mistake. We arrived and waiters pretended we were invisible and kept walking pass us, I wouldn't have minded so much if it was busy but it was so quite in there. The Service was so poor. The vegetable choice was awful. There are much nicer carvery that are cheaper than the toby so they will be receiving my business from now on .

I went into to toby on sunday with my daughter and was told i had to wait half hour so i left them my name and took a seat and had a drink my daughter ask me how long we had been waiting I said for an hour then i went and asked how much longer it would be and was told that my name had been called but i didnt even give my name at this point but the two women both said that my name was called so me and my daughter just left and then I told them my name as I left poor service will never go back

I went here last Monday and had pre booked which was lucky as there was no tables for hours. When we went to get our meals we chose to have the extra large plate... extra large ?! We received the same amount of meat as someone who had the regular carvery. We didn’t want all the meats so surely you’d expect to receive two slices of the two meats you chose as you get a slice of all four if you have all four, well.. that wasn’t the case, we were basically served scraps of meat from the meat we chose.. terrible ! The blonde lady serving was quite rude and was shouting to kitchen staff whilst serving.. very unprofessional. There was no apple sauce when I got to the sauces so I had to ask for this to be replaced. I usually love the Toby Carvey but I have been completely put off returning.. it’s such a lie when they say ‘extra meat’ they are really tight with it!!

I normally don't leave reviews but on this occasion it has to be done. Toby Carvery has proper gone to the dogs since the last time I was there. Me and my wife walked through the door and asked for a table for 2. The staff at the door took our name (or did they?) and told us there will be a 10-15 minute wait and to get drinks at the bar. 45 minutes later we were still sat waiting and people who were going in much later than us were getting seated first. So it seemed like our faces did not fit and we just got forgotten about! The toilets were absolutely disgusting, and one of the staff were even telling one of the customers about things that has been stolen recently. I didn't realise the Toby Carvery turned into a rough Newport pub. We ended up going to the coldra beefeater down the road. Highly recommended! Won't be coming again!

I never like to leave bad reviews but to be honest 1* is to generous. I booked a table for 1.30 which wasn’t ready. People were walking in who hadn’t booked and were being seated and eating before us. Lots of tables were empty but covered in dirty plates and glasses with no staff to clear them. We were seated at 2.10 after waiting 40 minutes. We asked someone clearing tables what we needed to do and she said we needed a ticket so waited but no one came. I then went to the desk to ask and I was told to just go get food. I asked for knives and forks and I was told they didn’t have any. We looked at the queue and it’s was about 60 people deep.

Member of the party who had diabetes and needed to eat at a specific time and the response was “yeah fine” she didn’t have time to listen or apologise.

I wouldn’t go near this place again it was bedlam.

I cannot say what I think of the service here I'd get my Facebook page removed for serious obscenities and violent threats.

I can say my wife and I have both been in this profession so know how hard it can be but I would sack the lot of them and properly train there replacements. The food was ok and lots of it.
