Had a very inspirational day at Spring Fair in Birmingham today. I've seen Mary Berry and Angel Strawbridge, viewed some "wow" fabrics by designers like Emma Shipley who is so on trend at the moment and heard about colour predictions from industry leaders for 2021. Safe to say I have come away feeling inspired to create!

I did a lovely lampshade making workshop on Monday night this week at The Artisan Boutique in Stone. We worked with 30cm diameter drum frames which are great for either a ceiling or a lamp shade and covered with beautiful fabrics to create some lovely shades you simply couldn't buy in the shops.
Each shade is also lined with either fabric or wallpaper and looks stunning when completed.

Another lovely job completed ... a gorgeous herringbone weave made into 5 cascade roman blinds for a bay window.

Velvets & Voiles isn't just about making curtains and blinds but is also delving into the world of soft furnishings with these two lovely handmade poufs in trendy grey.
One knitted, 32cm high x 150cm diameter, the other crocheted, 26cm x 156cm diameter. Made from a thick cotton t-shirt fibre which is soft to the touch but also durable. £65 each.
More colours plus cushion and pouf collections on the way. ☺

Just installed my first bespoke, handmade blind of the year! Lovely thick linen print fabric chosen by the customer, made into a cascade roman blind. Fully lined and mounted on an aluminium mechanism with shiny chrome blind pull. The layering effect shows off the pattern very nicely.

What an exciting week it's been in Velvet & Voiles' journey to be a bespoke curtains, blinds and soft furnishings specialist of choice in and around Stafford. With three sample blinds and a working door blind now installed in The Artisan Boutique in Stone I am looking forward to working closely with Susan and her customers to deliver a unique, professional service in 2019. I can't wait!

Hi, I have loved sewing since I was young and have always made my own clothing and home furnishings. I have recently embarked on a life-long ambition to do an interior design qualification by enrolling on a Curtain Making and Soft Furnishings Diploma course through the National Design Academy (NDA) in Nottingham. This has given me the professional skills and confidence to set up in business making curtains and blinds for the general public. My longer term ambition is to do a Foundation Degree in Interior Design to enable me to offer a design consultancy service to my customers ... however, for the time being, offering to make curtains and blinds will be rewarding enough!
