About Vidyapith

Vidyapith is a trust, primarily for helping educational institutions in India (particularly, West Bengal).

Vidyapith Description

What do we do in practice?
We modestly fund one project (provide grant to an institution) every month. Please see our website (www. vidyapith.net) to find details on how we provide grants to different schools in West Bengal, India. Needless to say, it is completely apolitical and has no affiliation to any political ideology or organization. We have no overhead costs and every service provided by Vidyapith and its trustees is purely on a voluntary basis.

What process do we follow?
We follow the following process for awarding our grants:
1. An institution seeking funding for educational purposes approaches Vidyapith with an application.
2. The application will contain a detailed proposal setting out the project, the costs of the project, other sources of income and the proposed timescale.
3. The trustees will assess the application together with an independent report from a local independent person engaged by the trust for the purpose.
4. If a grant is awarded, the project will be monitored during the project period.
5. The institution will submit a report to the trustees on completion of the project.

How do we raise funds?
The primary method of our fund-creation is to raise funds from our donors. Donors may encourage schools of their choice to apply for grants from us or even solicit projects to be funded by us. Note that we have no overhead costs.

How may you become a donor?
You may become a donor simply by donating a one-off amount in any currency (we have accounts in GBP, USD and INR). You may also wish to subscribe an amount (any amount of choice, however little it may seem) every month by setting up a standing order to your bank (in the UK). Please get in touch if you would like to be a donor.

Thought we should share the following self-explanatory (unedited) email to us along with his other friends, from Mr. Chimnay Das, a friend, a school teacher himself from Memari, Bardhaman, who recently supervised a completed project (new benches in the classrooms) for Vidyapith...... === From: Chinmay Das Sent: Wednesday, November 15, 2017 10:14 AM Subject: WORK OF 'VIDYAPITH ' AT CHAKBALARAM F.P.S.... Indrajit, H.M. of Chakbalaram F.P. School sent these pictures along with the letter. Friends, Please do note most of the primary schools in West Bengal have no benches for the pupils. I have experienced their plight; they have been suffering from cough and cold year long as they are bound to sit on the floor during the school hours. This school is no exception. I may recollect a conversation between a pupil of this school and me. ------ ki re, kamon achis? ------ valo. tabe khub kashi hay, ar gala y bathya hay" ------ kano? sara bachar?daktar dakhas? ------ sabar i to hay. shitkal ar barshakale beshi hay. daktar kothay pabo? One of the teachers was there . He told me," sir, mejher nicher theke thanda othe, tate i oder sharir kharap hay."

The following are some extracts from the Queen’s message on Christmas Day:
“…a truth expressed by Mother Teresa, from this year Saint Teresa of Calcutta…: ‘Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love’….It’s understandable that we sometimes think the world’s problems are so big that we can do little to help …. But the cumulative impact of thousands of small acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine.”
Hope you all are enjoying the festive period. Very best wishes for 2017.
