Seventy-five years ago today, Allied forces launched the largest amphibious invasion in history. Operation Overlord consisted of 13,000 aircraft, 5,000 ships and 160,000 American, British and Canadian troops. The D-Day Landings were the largest seabourne invasion in history and the pinnacle of our special wartime relationship with the US.
Visitors to Severn Valley Railway Official Site can step inside the Royal Carriage; stand in the room where Churchill and Eisenhower briefe...d King George VI on the D-Day plans. Walk through the kings mobile living quarters complete with US Air Conditioning (the first unit in the UK), a full bath and armour plating.
King George VI's Granddaughter; Princess Anne visited the carriage in 2015.
