Just giving notice that this Saturday (1st) is the second of the major cross country fixtures held in Warley Woods. So it will be a busy day in the parkland and woodland. Spectators welcome.

User

If you hadn't noticed it is Giving Tuesday today. We are really chuffed that someone has donated the whole £200 of their winter fuel allowance to the Trust today. You may not have a winter fuel allowance that you don't need, but if you have made a saving on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, then maybe you feel like sharing your good fortune with the Community Trust and Warley Woods... http://bit.ly/wwdonation

All the bookable slots for Santa on Sunday (Santa in the Woods) have now been filled. There will still be a Santa queue after his carriage ride. The queue has been a lot shorter in recent years because of our expansion of prebookings, so don't be afraid of the queue. Bookable slots for Saturday are still available if you prefer to see him then and then have the Sunday free to enjoy the event. http://bit.ly/wweventsnew

User

While it pains me a bit to jump on the Black Friday thing, I probably wouldn't be doing my job if I didn't remind you that if are buying online, the chances are that a donation could come to Warley Woods from any purchases.
If you buy from smile.amazon.co.uk and choose the Trust we will get a donation and if you buy from any of the many shops through Give As You Live https://www.giveasyoulive.com/join/warley woods we get a donation too.

User

If you are starting on your Christmas shopping online, don't forget that if you choose the Community Trust on Give as you Live,we will receive donations from many of the shops you use, at no extra cost to you. As this is the time of year when most people have a good spell of shopping online, we'd love to benefit from your generous nature. We already have 140 people who do this for us. Thank you https://www.giveasyoulive.com/join/warley woods

If you want to book for Simply Santa (Saturday 8th December) or one of the prebookable grotto visits at Santa in the Woods (Sunday 9th December) then make sure you get in early to have the best choice of times. http://bit.ly/wweventsnew

This Sunday there will be the first (of three) cross country events in Warley Woods this winter season. It is on Sunday (18)th. This is the one being organised by the fabulous Tipton Harriers. They will be on site for most of the day. The races will be between 11am and 1.30. If you are looking for a quiet walk in Warley Woods on the meadow then this will not be the day for it. You can see the map of the course they are using on this website if you are interested. http://www.wmyaccl.com/Venues.asp?id=19. If you would like the other dates for your diaries they will on Saturday 1st December and Saturday 19th January.

User

http://bit.ly/wwccards18. We have new Christmas cards this year (as every year). All photos taken in Warley Woods (of course). Have a look in our shop for the three images in each pack. We have offers on for multibuys and some of last year's stock. Plus our mugs and Simon Lea calendars. Same offers online and in our Shop at the Pavilion.

We are really looking for someone special to join our staff team at Warley Woods. We've been looking for a little while, but we haven't found them yet and we know they are out there. It may be a part time role in the Trust Shop, but that person needs to be able to cope with anything a Warley Woods visitor can ask of them - and that can be a tall order! As it is a Saturday role, they need to be confident and competent to work on their own without other staff around. If you think you know someone who would like be considered, ask them to have a look on our website for more details. http://bit.ly/wwvacancy2018

Warley Woods Community Trust is in the process of applying for funding to enable us to run a project called Wild Warley. It would make a real difference to how we manage the site for wildlife and in the number of ways we could offer activities and events on site. Could you help us by giving a couple of minutes to take part in one or both of these quick surveys. The first is about whether you might be interested in taking part. http://bit.ly/WildWarleysurvey The second is a quick quiz about wildlife in Warley Woods - we're trying to see what people already know or what they might want to learn about. http://bit.ly/WildWarleyquiz. Thanks for taking part in either of them - your responses will really help us.

We are happy to announce that the Warley Woods Fundraising Christmas Cards have arrived and on sale. Thanks to a snowy wonderland last winter our generous and talented Warley Wooders captured some lovely images which we had the difficult job of selecting our 2018 & 2019 images from.
This years images are 'Oh what a landscape' by Lewis Horton, 'Romantic Snowy Stroll' by Shay Chambers and 'Barclay makes a friend' taken by a Trust staff.
The images for 2019 were donated by Alex... Tzotzis, Christopher Ashford and Joanna Doherty.
Thank you to everyone who supported Warley Woods Community Trust by donating their images or making a purchase from the Shop at the Pavilion

Visited the park for the first time yesterday on the Big Sleuth bear hunt. We live within a 10 minute drive and didn't even know it existed! Lovely park very clean and tidy....everyone we passed was friendly and welcoming. Our 2 year old loved the play area...we will definitely be returning soon xx

Such a beautiful place to go and wander and forget for a while you are in a busy city

Me Mom and Dad Dot and Les Bracey first took me to Lightwoods Park when I was a baby in 1958 living in the flat above the Bearwood Chop Suey Bar at 67 Three Shires Oak Road. When I was 6 months old we moved to 116 Willow Avenue on The Poplars Estate in Bearwood, the Edgbaston in Birmingham bit coz our postcode was B17 8HE where we lived for the next nearly 40 years until me Dad Les died in 1989 and me Mom moved across the road to Hickory Drive, a cul-de-sac off Willow Avenue built on the former site of The Sandonian Tennis Club in Bearwood, not that far from Hadley Stadium in Cape Hill in Smethwick. When I was going to Lightwoods Park in the early 1960's I recall the aviaries near the entrance and the Shakespeare Garden. We have a black and white photograph of me Mom Dot Bracey standing next to the sun dial in The Shakespeare Garden.....Happy childhood Bearwoodian days in Lightwoods Park and House, where I remember that the Public Toilets smelt terribly!!!!

User

Lucky enough to live opposite and take advantage of the wonderful woodland and open meadow, bird watching and bat spotting and sledging in winter, just beautiful!

User

Lovely space for the kids to get some air and exercise! Went to find the bear on the big sleuth hunt and my nephew loved following the paw prints to it, thank you!

User

Lovely place, when I visit my children and granddaughter, I love to walk through the woods. Sometimes we might have an icecream or go to the little cafe. It's so quiet and peaceful. Even the dogs are well behaved!

User

Lovely large open space with other friendly park goers and dog walkers. Nice cafe too. Will definitely return, even though we live the other side of town (Billesley)

User

Love warley woods great place to take your dog... friendly people and a good cup of tea!

User

It's cheap and cheerful. Basically a greasy pool but clean, the food is decent and the staff are very pleasant. I think most of its customers are men who have told their wife's they are going for a round of golf when they are actually going for a full English. We actually only went for the food today.

User

I love Warley Woods. I visit fairly often and now that I have a dog, he loves it too.

No matter what season it is, the Woods look wonderful.

Yesterday, was a dry, crisp Autumn day. The leaves were scattered thoughtout the woods and made walking delightful.

How wonderful to have such a beautiful expanse of woodlands so close by.

The fresh air, the stroll and the views were so thoughly enjoyable.

Thank you to all those who work so hard to keep Warley Woods so incredibly special.

User

Grew up a short walk from here..... best conker trees in the world, won many a match with a conker from the Grey lady tree!

Bike rides and trakker in the summer months & sledging in the winter an all year round kids playground, much better than any games console!

Walked through from the Abbey road end to the cafe and back with my wife & 3 year old grand daughter, neither had been before, (along with the dog).

Had a great few hours here until my grand daughter tripped over & it was quick march back to the car for 'The Magic Sponge', aka a wet wipe!

User

Came to the woods for a picnic in the park event that happens every year. Beautiful place and a beautiful day. It's very Picturet in the winter too

User

Beautiful in the snow yesterday, lots of dogs and children running around in the open area which was great to see. Woodland walks around the edge was accompanied by little snowmen and snow animals made by visitors and no litter anywhere. The people are friendly and didn't even mind me giggling at one of their dogs with a massive branch in his mouth he was taking home with him.

User

Astonishing grand old trees and sweeping open parkland.

User

Always has been one of my favourite parks in the area . A very beautiful and well kept area to be proud of. The volunteers do a great job. I went to picnic in the park it gets better every year but the only thing that annoys me is when visitors to great venue leave their rubbish behind. Have some respect people! The volunteers have to clean up all the trash afterwards.

User

A wonderful community park. Lots of activities for all throughout the year. Always have a wonderful time at The Picnic In The Park. A credit to all who run it, including all the volunteers. Whatever the weather, it always looks beautiful. For those intetested in its history, ask at the Pavilion to see a copy of Humphry Repton's Red Book, detailing its landscaping.

User

It's a great place. Watch out for a plumpish middle aged woman with medium length auburn hair and a medium sized light fawn short haired dog. This dog bit me today in Warley Woods. The owner didn't care and refused to give me her name and address to report the matter.

Ok the bite did not actually draw blood but it hurts and it is worrying that there is a careless owner with a dangerous dog using the woods.
