Yesterday my husband, 8yr old daughter, 5 month old puppy and myself were travelling from Grantham to Plymouth after staying with family for Christmas. Our journey was one of the most awful we have had, breaking down twice and in total taking us 15hrs door to door to get home (a journey that normally takes 5hrs max!).



Our second breakdown occured just before Hopwood Services and we limped into the car park at around 6pm and awaited the AA again. It was minus 2 outside and we had no heat in our car as the engine would not restart however we were aware we could not take our puppy into the services. After a couple of hours my husband approached Sharon the Duty Manager and explained our situation.



Sharon, Lois and the rest of the team at Hopwood last night restored our faith in humanity and went way above and beyond anything we could have expected. They welcome us and more importantly our dog with open arms, offered hot drinks, local maps and information, provided my daughter with welcome distractions of colouring, word searches and ice cream, continually checked on our well-being, sat with my daughter when our dog needed to go outside and I was on my own as my husband was on his way to the airport to pick up a hire car.



When we were eventually able to continue our journey at 12am this morning Sharon had finished her shift but stayed on to make sure we were ok and insisted on providing us with coffee and food for the onward journey. The kindness of a complete stranger touched us greatly and we would like Sharon and her tean to know that it wont be forgotten and that we did eventually make it safely home at 4am this morning!



Welcome Break should be extremely proud of the staff they have working at Hopwood Services and the amazing customer service they provide.

Absolutely brilliant - they have a Changing Places loo, which is totally wonderful (and beautifully clean), so my son didn’t need to lie on a yukky toilet floor, or half strip on the back seat of the car to change his pad. Plus the staff at Starbucks made him hot chocolate in his own beaker, and made sure it wasn’t too hot for him to drink.

Stop here regularly when travelling to and from the north east. Normally great but this time a let down by a poor meal from kfc. Limited menu available, sold boiling hot beans with no means of eatin them without scalding yourself.

Same as alot of other Services...Lorry park miles away from the main entrance of the services...Once again lorry drivers treated like dirt because we drive a truck and trucks are not wanted to be seen. They dont mind charging £30 for us for the privelage tho.

This is not in any way a slur on the staff at Hopwood Services, it is just the layout of the services and the fact that at many of the services up and down the country, the truck park is a taxi ride from the main building....WHY???
