Great initiative!
Great work in our new gym groups. These guys are working hard over at Burt Williams with our physio team to keep them doing what they enjoy
The link between mental and physical health is powerful - what a great initiative!
Got a specific sport in mind or want to try something new?
Team sports are brilliant for doing something you enjoy in a sociable environment while keeping fit (and getting a bit competitive!) at the same time.
Wolverhampton City Council accredit local sports clubs as a mark of quality. You can see the list of local clubs here: http://www.wolverhampton.gov.uk/clublist< br>
The Wolverhampton parkrun offers the chance to get active by walking, jogging or running in the lovely West Park Wolverhampton (Official). It's a fantastic way to meet like minded people for a gentle start in getting more active.
They also have a Facebook group for people looking to enjoy the park run who manage arthritis and other MSK conditions: https://www.facebook.com/groups/parkrun.f or.arthritis.and.MSK.conditions
Too old to exercise?
Sometimes the thought of exercise can be daunting, especially if you've not done it for a while (or maybe never before) but it is the best thing you can do to keep independent, maintain your mobility, and manage your health.
There are a few local groups aimed at over 50s starting exercise - find out more below.... Walking has a host of benefits, from lowering blood pressure to lifting your mood. Public Health England identified that a 10 minute brisk walk counts as exercise. There are loads of great places in Wolverhampton to walk, as well as the local walking for health groups where you can join other people, too.
If you're walking alone, why not try the Active10 app to track how much brisk walking you do in a day? https://www.nhs.uk/oneyou/active10/home
