How brave are you?
Kevin King from our switchboard team at the Alexandra Hospital volunteered to Brave The Shave For Macmillan yesterday!
What a good sport - and all for a fantastic cause!

How creative is this!?
A patient undergoing chemotherapy in our hospital has designed and created discreet covers for patients to wear that cover the insertion lines used for their treatment.
Terri Preece has been sewing special lace covers which hide the PICC lines patients have placed in their arm where their treatment is administered from.
... PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) lines are intravenous access lines used to administer chemotherapy or other IV treatments to patients at home or in hospital. The PICC lines remain in place when they leave so that treatments can be administered again without having to re-insert a catheter each time.
The covers provide an attractive accessory which hides the PICC line from view and helps chemotherapy patients maintain normality. Terri has made the covers in a number of different colours and designs which can be used to match an outfit.
So far, she's made the covers for more than 10 patients she’s met during her chemotherapy treatment in hospital.

It's been another very busy night in our Emergency Departments.
If you need urgent medical advice or attention this morning please use an alternative to A&E if it's safe for you to to do so. That might be NHS111, a local Minor Injuries Unit, your GP or pharmacist.
You can find information about the locations and opening times of Minor Injuries Units across the county at https://www.hacw.nhs.uk/our-services/mino r-injuries-units/
... Please help our staff by using A&E for emergencies only. Thank you.

Have you seen one of these Blood Bikes on the roads of Worcestershire before?
If so, it's likely they were delivering medical items between our hospitals!
The Severn Freewheelers are a group of advanced motorcyclist volunteers who provide a free out-of-hours courier service for hospitals in Worcestershire and beyond.
... The riders carry blood and pathology samples, patient scans, drugs or any medical essentials between hospitals in the region for free.
Now, a local family have donated £1,000 to the charity in memory of Chris Pagett, a dedicated biker from Stourport who was planning to join the Freewheelers.

UPDATE: The problems which affected our scanning and X-ray services following this afternoon's fire are now resolved. All services are running as normal.
Thank you to all our staff who have worked to resolve the problem and keep services running - and thank you to our patients for your patience and understanding.

User

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PATIENTS: Scanning and X-ray systems at both the Alexandra and Worcestershire Royal Hospitals have been disrupted by a fire in an electrical switch room.
This is having a significant impact on our Emergency Departments this evening and we would ask for your support in using alternatives to A&E where it is safe for you to do so - including Minor Injuries Units and NHS 111. Patients in need of urgent care will still be seen as a priority.
We have a team of engineers working to resolve the problem and will issue further updates when we have more information.

Last year… we provided care for over 40% of the county’s population – that’s well over a quarter of a million different people!

Worcester hospital I cannot thank you enough for all the help and support you have given my little boy over the past few days, after being omitted to Riverbank children’s ward managing a very traumatic time for us whilst treating my child for suspected meningitis I cannot praise the work you all do, from the time we arrived we have received care and compassion and you guys do not get the recognition you deserve.

Once again Thank you for help mend my little boy

User

Thank you to all the staff at Worcester and the Kidderminster ambulance drivers who did an amazing job looking after me after my accident. They are working under such difficult conditions at Worcester but their attitude and commitment can not be faulted. I heard staff being verbally abused while waiting in A&E I take it this is a regular occurrence..... remember people they are doing this job because they want to help people they are doing their very best under extremely difficult circumstances which is no fault of their own. Massive praise to our NHS staff at Worcester Acute Hospital Trust.

Our son had emergency surgery on Thursday after breaking his arm - the staff were all amazing from the trauma clinic, theatre, to children’s ward

A very worrying time as it all happened so quick

What amazing people you all are - thank you very much your all stars

My daughter was treated in A&E for a severe throat infection which caused her airway to be compromised .... The treatment we recieved was excellent the drs treated my daughter amazingly and the ENT drs were just as brilliant ..the nurses were amazing under extremely busy conditions ..i would especially like to thank S/N Alice and S/N Savannah but all the team were amazing ..we were in the corridor being treated but this did not deter the care that was given a Huge thank you

User

I would like to say a huge Thankyou to the wonderful A&E staff that looked after me last night. Following a call to 111 , as advised I went in with my husband at 8pm Thursday evening with a very fast heartbeat of 180-200 bpm.

A&E was very busy but I was seen quickly and was soon found a cubicle and seen by doctors .

A heart attack was suspected at first and they gave me treatment which 5 hours later brought me back into normal sinus rhythm. Lots of tests were done and I was also set for an X-ray .

During this time the staff were amazing , friendly , professional and extremely caring, nothing was too much trouble and they very soon put me at my ease and made me feel in very safe and capable hands .

This morning I was seen by cardio doctors and given the excellent news that I hadn’t had a heart attack after all and it was purely a rare reaction to a new drug for my Sciatica pain.

Special thanks go to Becky and her colleagues who looked after me on A@E. What a happy, caring team you are. Thanks again. Lyn & John Hughes xx

I was at the Worcester Royal hospital today with my dad and I couldn’t praise the staff enough. The paramedics were awesome and the nurses and my dads doctor were amazing!!! The a&e department was structured so well considering the influx of patients today. They offered us food and drinks, the nurse filled up my hot water bottle. They were highly attentive to all patients, a cardiac arrest came in and they screened the corridor off to give that person some privacy and dignity and they were all happy and friendly. Didn’t feel uncomfortable once. They need some proper recognition for the amazing and hard work they do!!!

User

I want to say a massive thank you to the midwife Kate Humphries and a student midwife Mia that helped me so much through my actual birth of my little girl on the delivery suite on Wednesday 6th June 2018 , I had the most positive amazing waterbirth with them and the dedication and care they took to me and my partner were outstanding, I think they deserve a massive thank you for making my whole experience a positive one, I was really beat up as I had a prolonged labor for days and as soon as they took me in , right from the start my mindset changed thank you so much!!!

User

I think people are very quick to complain; therefore I would like to balance this out. Unfortunately my mom had to be taken to A and E at Worcester Royal by ambulance recently. The care and attention she (and us as a family) received was excellent in every way. Yes, she had to wait amongst others in a corridor on a trolley. However, this didn’t mean that she was ignored or not given due care. We were given a follow up appointment for the very next day. I cannot praise the staff and service enough. Credit where it is due. You all have our very grateful thanks.

User

I just wanted to say a massive thank u to every single member of staff who looked after me yesterday when I went in for a minor op. I was incredibly anxious aswel as being very needle phobic. From Miss van setts who was my consultant, the anesthatist, all of the surgery staff and then the nurses who looked after me before and after my surgery. U all made me feel at ease throughout the whole process. My surgery wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for all of u helping me through so thank you. Xxx

User

I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who have helped myself and my partner out, bigger thank you to everyone at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. Some of the midwifes I was speaking too, had taken them nearly 2 hours to get into work and others having to sleep in offices at the hospital to make sure there was someone available at all times to help deliver babies. I received the best care I possibly could have and I cannot fault the hospital. From start to finish. Must say well impressed.

My son was born on a snow day and it all ran as smoothly as it could off.

People are quick to judge the NHS and hardly ever praise it, so this is my thank you!

User

I honestly can’t praise this hospital enough! My mom was admitted to A&E on Thursday. The staff were totally and utterly fantastic, very caring, attentive and even though they were exceptionally busy, nothing was too much trouble!

She has since been on AEC, MAU and now Silver Oncology and the high standard and lovely caring helpful staff has remained! I could go on and on but it’s a total 5 Star plus rating from us! I will be writing this everywhere I can! Keep up the amazing work WRH X

User

I have had 2 recent experiences with worcester hospital, one for induction/having my baby by emergency csection and staff on all maternity wards were brilliant with me. Especially the night staff on post natal.

And i cannot sing praises enough for the staff on riverbank ward for their thorough testing, care, patience with me, understanding and general helping nature whilst i was in with my 5 week old.

Most people slate worcester hospital but i have nothing but positive experience over the last year! The staff really do go above and beyond for their patients on maternity/postnatal and riverbank wards...

User

Huge thanks to everyone here, you all do an amazing job, even though your under so much pressure. Yesterday A&E was bursting, patients and trolleys everywhere, corridors full of people, all just like the comments and the negative press we hear all the time, yet my son after his bike accident could not of been in safer hands, did not matter how many patients there were, every member of staff we encountered did everything they could for him, and I’m thankful he was able to walk out of there last night. Everyone jumps on with negative comments, and very few take the time to praise, well all I can say is from me and my son is thank you ! Your all hero’s !!

User

Huge huge thank you to the staff on riverbank ward for their quick response and care for my 11 week old little boy who was diagnosed with viral meningitis this week. The fast work from the doctors and nurses meant we had a quick diagnosis & within hours of arriving he was being treated and looked after in such a professional, caring environment. We cannot thank you enough for looking after both him and us, and for keeping us up to date at every stage despite being super busy! Thank you for the amazing work you all do every day.

User

A big big thank you to everyone at Worcester Royal, who looked after me for 2 nights when an angle grinder went into my foot. From the paramedics/ambulance service, to A and E, the surgical team and everyone at the trauma and orthopaedics ward! You were all amazing and couldnt of been nicer, even when you were run off your feet most of the time. Thank you!

User

Over recent years I have visited WRH on many occasions either for my self or with my partner. It’s the infrastructure that really lets the service down. The staff are fantastic. They battle on despite lack of numbers. Their dedication is unquestionable. Perhaps the trust should start to listen to what the staff wants and needs are plus those thoughts of the patients rather than those in suits with calculators!

User

I know WRH is under pressure but the AEC department really needs to be looked at. Some staff are very polite but some (receptionist) are rude and unhelpful, been 4 times now and after 8 hours stay everytime with no update they send you on your way to come back the next day which then becomes expensive for paying for car park. Just seems unorganized and staff not communicating with each other or updated patients records.

User

Worcester, Redditch & Kidderminster Hospitals are split with specialisms in each Hospital. Unfortunately as we have been to Redditch & Worcester today over 12 hours, Waiting & Rows of beds in corridors seem to be the specialist area. Im sorry but the level of service we get is embarrasing for the trust. Not only that but a high priority case, as ours is has failed to provide any medical treatment after 12 hours, which is on top of a missed diagnosis and 3 hour visit the previous day. So 15 hours and no specialist has looked at the case. Staff, Doctors & Nurses do their best. But someone has caused this and needs to understand that its lives that are at risk, not a machine breaking down where you can be relaxed about the whole thing. Im Disgusted, Embarrassed for both the care we offer as a Shire and for the likes of my wife who gets tarnished with the same brush and annoyed/angered that people have to be given the job to decide who is urgent! Those who make the real decisions dont deal with the angry person at the counter or bed. Sort this if nothing else please local MP's or give me the power and i will! I would do q far better job!

User

Total chaos in car parks today. At least 30 cars driving round and round both car parks. I made THREE complete circuits before finally finding a space after 45 minutes and I know other people had as much problem as me. There were literally NO SPACES on the site. To add to this, in the top car park there are arrows indicating you can go both ways, but if you turned left, someone had put a barrier at the end so everyone was having to turn round in a space barely wide enough for one car. What a JOKE! This is absolutely ridiculous. You don't need more stress - arriving for an appointment is stressful enough. Parkiing is always bad, but this was something else. What about park and ride - surely that would help. You really need to get your act in order Worcester Royal, instead of concentration on Way 4 Ward pretty posters and clever slogans!!
