About Zindiya

An immersive experience of India – drinking chai or Limca, eating chaat and gol gappe – in a casual and fun environment.

Zindiya Description

Zindiya is an Indian Streatery and bar created by husband and wife team, Shivani & Ajay Kenth, who have planned this venture since their teenage years.
Their concept was to create an immersive experience of India – drinking chai or Limca, eating chaat and gol gappe – in a casual and fun environment.

Over 15 years later, the idea comes to life with ZINDIYA.
The name is derived from the Hindi word “Zindagi” meaning “life” and the couple’s daughters name Diya, which means light and splendour.

The experience of the street markets of Indian cities such as Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are like nothing on earth. Their exotic and bustling aura is unique and we wanted to bring a sense of that culture to the place we were born, Moseley.

Our home is designed to look like a traditional street in any of these wonderful cities - colourful, distinctive and different to what we see over here. We have used local crafters and artists to create a setting that is bright, immersive and most of all, fun but in keeping with the real essence of what Indian street cooking is all about – fresh and affordable.

There is seating for 90 people, including covered rickshaw booths and a bar area which has the finest cocktail range in the village, designed by cocktail legend Robert Wood, alongside local craft beers, hand selected wines from Birmingham’s oldest wine merchant Connolly’s and sweets from the delicious Miss Macaroon.
Whether you fancy afternoon chai, a night out with friends or just a quick lunch, our food and drink will bring a little bit of India into your life.

One of our favourite new additions this Summer...
PINK CITY - a sweet and floral cocktail named after the Rajasthani city, Jaipur.
Robert Wood was inspired by the city's many sweet shops and the regional dessert - Ghevar.
... Transport yourself to the Pink City with the taste of pistachio, cardamom, almonds, saffron and caramelised sugar.

PINK CITY - a sweet and floral cocktail named after the Rajasthani city, Jaipur.
Robert Wood was inspired by the colourful city's many sweet shops and the regional dessert - Ghevar - especially popular during Teej festival, which happens to fall on 13th August this year.

NAZAR BATTU is a charm that wards off bad spirits. These charms are often fashioned from representative items, one such popular charm is a string with seven chills and a lemon thread onto it.
Robert Wood creates a liquid omen of good luck - a clean, fresh and vibrant cocktail with an intense kick.

Warm and friendly service, authentic Indian place that brought us back to the streets of Dheli and Mumbai! And wait until you try the real and colourful flavours of Indian street food dishes! Go for it!

User

Tom looked after us tonight. Excellent service and knowledge of what’s what.

I can’t wait to come again!

User

This place is amazing and it has a Vegan menu what a bonus!! Who misses chicken tikka when you can have yummy tikka soya!!

User

Really tasty food, slightly too spicy for me but thoroughly enjoyed it!! Will order something more mild next time. Definitely will be coming back, lovely atmosphere

User

Lovely food - had the hai chai which was fantastic. Great ambience and friendly staff too. Just had a great experience.

User

Loved it! Beautiful decor, delicious food, fabulous cocktails, friendly staff. The expansive veggie range was really good too. I've been recommending to all of my friends! The chilli paneer particularly so. A fantastic evening, thank you.

User

Had a lovely evening this evening. Interesting range of cocktails and we very much enjoyed all the dishes we chose. We like the decor and ambience. The service was very good and well paced. We will be back. Many thanks

User

Food is consistently excellent. I have just moved into a new house and "proximity to Zindiya" was genuinely a factor I took into consideration whilst I was looking.

User

First time I’ve been and it was an amazing experience. The atmosphere was great and the food and service was excellent. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

User

Excellent food , warm service , refreshing ambience , a great twist to Indian street food . Each dish has a unique appearance- do try the chocolate golgappas and the scrumptious kurkuri bhindi. - A great experience !!

User

Amazing food at Zindiya!! Decor and atmosphere is great, and service is on point. Recommend trying their cocktails too if you like to try something a little different. I've been twice now and I'll definitely be going back!

Very good -

Excellent menu choice for Vegetarian & good Vegan menu. Decent dish size and prices, Purity Longhorn & Lawless on tap 👍

Nice ambiance & friendly attentive, but not pushy staff

Thoroughly recommended

The food and environment at Zindiya are soooo good. Yummy. Shame about the service. We had to keep asking to order, for drinks, for cutlery, for the bill. We could easily have walked out without paying as no-one was bothered with us all night. Shame as it could be really special. I would think twice before going back despite the gorgeous food and place.

User

Short menu, which allows visitors to have reasonably small meal at a reasonable cost. Suitable for both meat eaters and veggies (not sure about vegans, as there were none in my group).

Lassis were good, as were chicken wings. Side order of spicy fries came out on the cool side (not cold), have potential, but not a huge fan on 1st try

User

Good and authentic desi food (with a slight twist of Birminghamness), and the décor convincing enough to fool even a few delhiites that the photos I took were in Chandni Chowk 😉

User

First time, but definetly will not be the last!

User

The decoration was good. Some similarities to dishoom. The food was average nothing special. The service was very slow. We sat close to the kitchen heard the chefs moaning and only one waitress working hard running around taking and serving food orders. I am bit disappointed I would not go again.

User

Nice restaurant although the service was slow, my sister waited ages for her starter whereas we finished our starters and was ready for our mains. When my sister finally got her food she was given her mains first and then starter.....

I didn't enjoy the food. Sorry.

User

not at all indian street food taste its all about deco but food was so upsetting i can do way better snacks and food watch out zindiya i might have to open my own stall of indian street food.....
