282 (East Ham) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets Description

We take part in many activities including flying, gliding, going on camps, taking part in all kinds of action, adventure and sports. It’s great fun too, with the opportunity to enjoy an enviable social life and make many new friends. How far are YOU from having a good time?

Air Cadets, aged 12 to 17, and our supporting staff get the opportunity to participate in a large range of stimulating and rewarding activities. Where else could you learn to fly aerobatics, visit Royal Air Force Stations, tour foreign countries, play sports from local to National level, learn the skills to lead expeditions, become a target shooting marksman, gain your Duke of Edinburgh Awards, canoe through white water, assist your community, join a band, learn aviation subjects, go caving, parachute, climb, sail, ski. . . ?

There are lots and lots of activities. These and much more are readily available to you as a member of our squadron and indeed the Air Training Corps, whether you are a cadet or staff member.

So if you want to join the "Top Crew" get in touch

Fridays parade night was the last night as a cadet for Cadet Warrant Officer Sebastian Stewart, as he celebrates his 20th birthday.
He joined 282 squadron in 2012 and since then has travelled to India with the squadron, completed all levels of his Duke of Edinburgh award, gained BTECs, completed his Flying Navigation Scholarship, represented the squadron and London Wing in sporting activities, been a Deputy Lieutenant Cadet for Newham London, played at various national event...s with the Squadron/Wing/Region band, achieved the The Worshipful Company of Plaisterers Band Trophy, to name just a few!
It’s not ‘goodbye’ though.. He successfully passed his Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Board and from next week will be a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. He wishes to give back to the organisation all that he enjoyed, as a Cadet Force Adult Volunteer.
Good luck Sgt Sebastian Stewart RAFAC in your new role

A bit of inter-squadron training this weekend. Cadets from 282 working alongside 6F (Romford) Squadron ATC, 1147 Barking Squadron RAFAC, and 452 Hornchurch Squadron - Royal Air Force Air Cadets on the Blue Leadership training - a basic introduction to leadership. From here, the cadets can further their knowledge in leadership by progressing to the Bronze syllabus.

Today is Holocaust Memorial Day, marking 74 years since the liberation of the largest Nazi Concentration Camp; Auschwitz-Birkenau. Over 1.3 million Jews, Poles, prisoners of war, and many others were murdered at the camp by the Nazis during World War 2.
The Holocaust threatened the fabric of civilisation, and genocide must still be resisted every day.
Each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer fu...ture.
Together, all bear witness for those who endured genocide, and honour the survivors and all those whose lives were changed beyond recognition.
The squadron band on Friday performed at Newham’s Holocaust Memorial ceremony and joined many others to remember all those that lost their lives and suffered during the Holocaust and other such events. The cadets got to meet Harry Olmer at the ceremony, who is a Holocaust Survivor.
In just over two weeks time, cadets and staff from 282 Squadron and 338 West Ham Squadron Air Cadets will travel to Krakow in Poland to see the camps, pay respect, and learn about the atrocities that occurred there over 74 years ago. It is everyone’s responsibility to do their best to ensure these events don’t happen again.

Merry Christmas to you all. Plenty of time with family and friends.
Do spare a moment to think about those that are serving in our armed forces around the world and in our emergency services, all who are away from their family and keeping us safe while we are spending time with our family.

After six months of training, our latest recruit flight have become fully fledged members of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets. On Monday, they were officially enrolled by our Padre, Rev Fred Ashford-Okai.
Joining in June 2018, the cadets have developed into fantastic young men and women, ready to take full advantage of all that the air cadets have to offer. Best of luck in your cadet career.
On the same night, our new intake started!

What a year it has been for the band of 282 Squadron! From performing to thousands at various London events to competing against the UKs top Royal Air Force Air Cadets marching bands.
It was over a month ago that the band wow'd the audience at the #raf100 'Time Flies' concert at Theatre Royal Drury Lane and not long before that played to over 15,000 people at the London 10,000 run.
... To end the year for the band, the squadron made it all the way to the National Air Cadet Band Championships at RAF Honington, after placing 1st position at the London Wing - Royal Air Force Air Cadets and London & South East Region Air Cadets competitions. The band made it to this level three years ago and managed second position. Facing five highly trained Regional bands this year, they went on to take 1st position! TOP MARCHING BAND in the RAF Air Cadets.
A lot of effort goes into a marching band from both the cadets and staff - Discipline, determination, teamwork, deportment, and the ability to play an instrument and march at the same time. No easy task. The seventeen cadets that make up the squadron band have truly excelled and demonstrated the best of the air cadets. Well done to them!
We thank our supporters The Worshipful Company of Plaisterers Aspers Casino Newham London Jack Petchey Foundation who have all donated much needed funds to purchase and maintain the bands instruments. Its a huge team effort and couldn't have happened without the valuable input.

Congratulations to our latest Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Award Winners. All have done the squadron proud. Each of them have their own reason for achieveing the award, but all strive for excellence and inspire many other cadets. Well done!
The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society and assist them in achieving their potential. It supports thousands of young people and their leaders from across London and Essex. The squadron is very thankful to eveything they do in supoporting young people. Each award comes with a £250 grant for the squadron.

It was a year ago this week that the squadrons Ghana Expedition Team returned from a two week project based adventure. So much was achieved by the team and this Friday they will do a presentation at the National Geographic Society in London on their trip, in a bid to win the Shackleton Trophy for the 'Best Overseas Expedition' in 2017/18.
