Aspire Creating Communities Description

Our Thursday morning social sessions are for local people aged over 60. We engage in a host of activities including craft, music, local history and art. The community events are a great place to come and make new friends and we are always happy to give you advice and support for your current situation.

ASPIRE seeks to address social poverty and bridge ethnic and inter-generational divides in Birkby by reducing the isolation of older people and improving community relations. Each session has been designed to provide education and support; helping older people engage with contemporary culture and social change.

We already have a good number of older people in regular attendance, growing steadily each week. Our hope is that participants will develop a greater sense of significance, through serving each other and members of the wider community, in the weekly sessions and elsewhere, and as a whole.

We hope to reach out to meet needs and benefit the community for many years.

A bit of fun for the Aspire Project Manager, Susanna, and chair of trustees, Karina. A brilliant night out at the Kirklees Inclusion and Diversity Awards

The Aspire office and all sessions are now closed for a week! We will return your messages and calls when we get back from our team week away in the Bahamas* on the 24th February.
Thank you for your ongoing support as Aspire grows!

Brilliant intergenerational needle felting session at Birkby Croft with Debbie from Crafty Baggage. Debbie was fantastic at including everyone and sparking our imaginations!

A little favour to ask...
If you have a connection with any of the Aspire groups, whether you attend, your relative attends, you work with us as a partner organisation, or you refer people to us, please can you leave us a little review on our Facebook page!

Today we said a sad farewell to our lovely Molly.
Two of our Aspire groups that Molly was part of for four years created these stunning butterflies out of liquid resin which Lianne turned into this amazing unique butterfly bouquet. We were able to give this to her family after the funeral this afternoon.

Today at Aspire Gomersal we painted the pots we made a couple of weeks ago with Dave Helm. Can't wait to see what they look like in a couple of weeks, when we get them back.

At Christ Church Aspire yesterday we made tote bags from used t-shirts and printed designs on some of them using stencils. Thank you to Lianne Woodward from The Craft Workshop for leading the session.

Aspire team first aid training today! (actually we were just resting a lot on the floor!)

Wonderful Aspire regular Crafty Baggage artist Debbie runs this on the second Sunday of every month in the Byram Arcade! Definitely worth checking out 😊

Some fantastic works of art created today at Birkby Croft. Dave did a brilliant job showing us techniques and helping us build our pictures. Scroll all the way through the photos, you must see our masterpieces ðŸŽĻ🖌ïļ

IMPORTANT!
Please choose Aspire as your local COOP community cause! We would be thrilled to have as many of our supporters as possible rally round to get us a good chunk of funding towards the running of the Aspire Charity 😊

ðŸŒļA new friend..... or maybe not so new?🌞
Two ladies chatting at our Newsome group today were trying to work out where they knew each other from. After a while it transpired that they used to do the school run together with their children FIFTY YEARS AGO!

At Sandy Mount today we learnt all about beekeeping with Byron from S2R. Fascinating talk and even got to taste some honey! I am full of bee facts now and off to buy some wild flower seeds 🐝
