What a brilliant turn out from the Veteran Car Club today - hard to believe that all these vehicles were built before 1918! If petrol and pistons is your thing, make sure you come along to our classic car rally on 30th September: https://www.beamish.org.uk/events/classic -car-day/

User

We hope you'll join us in wishing a very warm welcome to our new staff and volunteers who have had their induction today! They've had a behind-the-scenes look at our collections as well as a tour of the museum itself. Even better, all 17 are our newest Dementia Friends! Make sure you say hello if you spot them on your next visit. What would be your dream job at the museum?

User

It's a beautiful day, and the Veteran Car Club are set up in the paddock next to the Steam Navvy! They'll be driving around the museum today, see how many you can spot!

At Beamish we love our old cars, which is why we're excited to be hosting a Veteran Car Club Rally tomorrow from 11am-4pm at the Steam Navvy Paddock near our Regional Resource Centre.
Up to 20 vehicles from the Veteran Car Club North East Section will be visiting, all dating from 1918 or earlier - we hope you can join us!

Earlier today, some of our staff, volunteers and Youth Club members treated visitors to some pop-up performances in The Pit Village as part of our Blasting Brass activity.
Today was the first time they'd played and we think they did a great job!
Blasting Brass takes place fortnightly in our Pit Village band hall http://www.beamish.org.uk/e…/blasting-b rass-2-2-2-2-2-2-2-2/

As part of our fortnightly Blasting Brass activity, some of our staff, volunteers and members of our Youth Club have been hard at work learning how to play brass instruments in The Pit Village! 🎶

Hello all - it's Patrick again. I'm signing off now and handing the reins back to The Beamish Communications Team. They do a really good job at managing the social media - they make it look easy! Thanks for making me feel so welcome and for asking me some great questions! I am really appreciative for the opportunity to run the social media pages but sadly it's time to hand you back over again to the experts. See you soon!... Thanks, Patrick

Now in its fourth year, Dig for Victory returns from Thursday 30th August to Sunday 2nd September 2018.
Dig for Victory is the first event in our Great North Festival of Agriculture. The event is focused in and around our 1940s Farm and tells the story of life on the Home Front and the vital support role the British countryside played during the Second World War.
The farm will again be buzzing with activity – from gardening to wartime recipes and cooking, Land Girls to lumber...jills, make do and mend to military vehicles and a host of hands-on activities – make sure you don’t miss any of them! We’ll have animals, music, machinery and Home Guard plus much more!

Would definitely recommend the afternoon tea. Food and service were fab and nice to see the inside of the Cookson room in the 1900’s tea room.

User

What a great place. We stayed at a premier inn nearby and saved 25% with the voucher they gave us. Absolute bargain for a yearly pass. Will need to visit again as we didn’t have enough time to visit everything. Free transport inside too is a bonus if you don’t want to walk around. Plenty of packed lunch spaces too or go for the fish and chips, huge portion.

User

What a fantastic day out we had! It was the second time we had visited as we didn't see everything last time and again this time. Even the weather couldn't spoil our day. Particularly loved the farm and animals, sampling all the old style goodies and all the historical information. So much to see and do and the in character staff are amazing. Definitely will be going back again and again. Thank you all at Beamish.

User

Well worth a visit. Also very encouraging to see the work that is being done to expand the offering. The new "coaching inn" site was very much evident along with work underway in what will be the 1950's area. Also very interesting was "Joe the Quilters" Cottage being constructed in the Georgian area. Take away the modern scaffolding, machinery for mixing and lifting and the high viz and you can see just how it was constructed. Then the fish and chips from Davy's in the Pit Village, they are just fantastic. Probably the best fish and chips available anywhere IMHO and well worth the queue to get them. Ticket lasts for a year so we will be back (again and again).

User

We attended beamish as part of a Hen party today. It was absolutely amazing! Julia and Katherine (sorry if i have the names wrong) lead our sweet making activity. They were really friendly and fun! The activity was so enjoyable. Our afternoon tea was delicious! The staff running it were lovely too! Beamish went above and beyond. The bride and all (including myself) thoroughly enjoyed our visit. You have done an excellent job! We will be back again! Thank you!

User

We always have a great time at beamish! We’ve been lots of times and always manage to find something we haven’t seen before!

Such a great place with great staff!

User

Visited today, we had a great day! Weather was great, plenty for the kids to do. Managed to lose my phone somehow, either in the school or the shop nearby. If anyone has handed it in I would be hugely grateful.

User

My husband and I visited Beamish during the Easter weekend and we absolutely loved it, we didnt get to visit everywhere as we spent most of our time in the area where the bakery is, next time i know to come in wellies haha but there definately will be a next time, i really liked how in each place we visited the person working there talked us through how things worked in the old days, they have probably repeated themselves about 100 times a day but they still told it with enthusiasm, great place to visit and we cant wait to come back x

User

Maybe a bit unusual to some, but my maid of honour organised my hen party at Beamish today, which included sweet making, a walk around the museum and topped off with afternoon tea.

I just want to say a huge thank you to all of the staff, especially to Katherine and Julia for surpassing all expectations and for the lovely card as well.

It has been a truly wonderful day that won't be forgotten any time soon!

User

User

I visited today as one of a group of 11 ladies and we had a lovely day made all the more enjoyable by the lovely staff. A big thank goes out to the ladies in the Town's Tea Rooms who went out of their way to make our afternoon tea a bit more special by providing Elderflower fizz and a birthday cake for one of our party. Special thanks also go to Carl and Alison in the photographers for accommodating all 11 of us for a photo shoot. Well done Beamish, we'll be back.

User

Had an amazing time in Beamish Museum. The staff are all wonderful and friendly (and so full of knowledge). The food in the bakery was amazing. Definitely recommend to others!!!

User

Enjoyed our first visit yesterday. It was like stepping back in time. Love places like this. Keeping history alive. Lots of interesting buildings. Plenty of places to eat and get snacks and lots of green areas for picnics if you get good weather. Will definitely be back to see the 1950's village that is being developed. Would highly recommend it.

User

Brilliant day, everyone is so helpful and friendly, it's a brilliant place for wheelchair users, 95% accessible and you are not made to feel awkward or a nuisance in any way.

Thankyou everyone at Beamish museum for making our day perfect

User

Beamish tearoom! Absolutely lovely afternoon tea made extra special by the lovely tearoom staff. We really enjoyed our Fell’s Angels WI outing today and would definitely recommend a visit there.

Lovely selection of sandwiches, cake and cream scones with lashings of piping hot tea and coffee. The tearoom ladies were great! Thank you

User

As always we loved our trip to Beamish it truly is the most amazing place enhanced by amazing staff and volunteers who are so visitor focused.

My only complaint is your lack of recycling facilities on site. We thoroughly enjoyed our pop however we brought the bottles home to recycle. Even just a little note on top of the bins to ask people to take their recycling home wouldn't go amiss. My second 'grumble' is the huge amounts of disposable coffee cups being used. For an age that believed in reuse recycle I am interested in as to how Beamish are dealing with their visitors recycling?

I have only given the low star rating to bring this to your attention, for everything bar recycling its five stars.

User

An amazing day. Hadn't been here since I was a child 30 years ago and it's fantastic. Kids loved it. The staff are great and interacted with the kids telling them facts and joking with them, which they loved. Thank you for a great day out, will definitely be back again.

User
