Good evening folks, our cheese and wine pairing of the week is the Alsop and Walker Mayfield Cheese from West Sussex. Similar to a Swiss cheese it’s sweet and nutty with a deep creamy texture.
The wine blends carefully with the cheese and is the Chateau Graves de Rabion from St Emilion in Bordeaux: France. It’s a deep wine with gripping tannins and a delightful blend of merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, when paired with the cheese it brings out the bramble fruitiness and the softness of the merlot grape, delicious!

· Black Mouse Cheese & Wine Emporium Black Cow Vodka Below Stairs, Well what an event last Thursday in Leeds city centre, Black Cow were holding their cocktail competion, the gold top cup! It was held at Below Stairs bar on South parade and we were invited to supply the cheese, the Black Cow cheddar. We had entrants from all around the north, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and Lincoln, as this was the semi final stage, the cocktails were presented with a dish and the theme wa...s zero wastage and had to include the Black Cow Vodka of course, the judges included the Co-founder of Black Cow, Jason, Manny, owner of the Below the Stairs bar, Dustin from Black Cow and Matt Heally from the foundry restaurant in Leeds. The winners was Phillip from Manchester and Sam from Pintura in Leeds and they go through to the final thats held down in Dorset in the next month! well done to all and it was great meeting everyone, best regards Black Mouse.

Black Mouse Cheese & Wine Emporium - Good evening folks. Our cheese and wine pairing of the week, this week is a wine from South Africa. This is a white wine: the starlette blanc which is a blend of Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc. This makes it a delicious white with a long finish and denotes of gooseberry and stone fruits.
To add to this wine, the cheese is a Richard the 3rd Wensleydale, this is a mature and creamy Wensleydale that does not crumble; it brings out the acid...ity in the wine which cuts through the cream of the cheese and leaves a nutty sweet after taste.

What an amazing little place. The owner was incredibly knowledgeable on all the products in stock. I could have listened to him talk for hours. The Black Cow cheddar is a must buy along with the Brie. And the owners own brand of wine is fantastic and worth every penny. I would strongly recommend the Falanghina Del Sannio.

Well I won't buy wine from anywhere else ever again! I've been in twice now and each time the service and products were fantastic. The gentlemen behind the counter was very helpful - letting us try our cheese before we selected it and helping choose a wine to accompany our cheeses. We tried 2 Pinot Noir's and a Zinfandel and they were all very nice. The Gravel and Loam Pinot Noir especially, it was very light and refreshing, not normally what I would go for in a red, but I will definitely be getting more! Thank you very much.

We were let down by another local cheese shop and I am so glad we were! We decided that we didn't want to go traditional for our wedding (neither of us particularly like cake) and ordered our wedding cheese cake from Black Mouse. We had a taster session with Julie, who was so knowledgeable about all the different cheeses and told us where/ how each one was made. We chose 7 different cheeses in the end for 100 guests and Alan cut and designed the cake himself. We were so pleased with the service and we were delighted with the price for such a quality product. All of our guests commented on our cheese cake and we were left with only a small amount to take home. Thank you so much Alan and Julie, we cannot recommend you enough! �

We passed by and had three nice bottles of wine: the last bottle of the Lychgate Red 2011 (Bolney Sussex) ***, Chateau Vessière (Saint Gilles) Costières de Nîmes 2015 **** (not just because I am French), and a Riesling 2013 (Siegel, Pfalz) ** slightly too sweet for me but very subtle. Of course we had some cheese to go with it a nice melting vintage poacher Lancaster (as far as I remember now!) fantastic! And all fantastic ... we could spend the whole evening there ...thanks Alan

We ordered our wedding cake of cheese from Black Mouse, for our wedding last week. It was absolutely stunning and one of the real talking points from the weekend. Right from our enquiry Julie and Alan couldn’t have been more helpful, from the information, the tasting, the recommendations right through to the building of it! The Cake got demolished by our guests, who have not stopped talking about it since! Thank you so much for your helpfulness and dedication in making our cake so special.

We attended a taster evening and thoroughly enjoyed sampling and learning about the selected wines and beautiful cheeses on offer. The emporium is filled with inspiring stock and the staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and passionate about their trade, I'd definitely recommend attending one of the evenings if you enjoy your wines. Great atmosphere ���will definitely be visiting again.

Visited this gem of a place today. We chose the fig crackers, and were advised by a very knowledgable gentleman working there of what cheese to compliment them. He advised on the 'black cow' cheese with 'pacifico sur' Merlot Chillean wine.

Have tried these tonight...what a delight!

The best wine shop I've ever found. After years of wine clubs and mediocre wine selections at supermarkets it is like a little bit of paradise with the best advice available. Brilliant little place.

Such a delightful shop and surroundings. Wonderful choices of wine, cheeses and accompaniments. The owner and staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, making it a truly five star experience. Highly recommend a visit, something for every taste and budget. I’d also recommend the Cheese and Wine evenings for that extra experience.

Omg if you are a cheese freak as I am you will think you have died and gone to heaven. Called in yesterday and was recommended a cheese after a small consultation as to my tastes. Also tried and bought the piccalilli X. Took away my purchases for the weekend and now confess I have eaten the lot!!

Thank you for opening your shop in Pudsey it is the only place i will be buying my cheese from and already looking forward to visiting again

Moved to Pudsey in August and absolutely love that we have a local wine and cheese shop. The gentlemen was so helpful and let me try all the cheeses I was thinking of buying before I purchase, so good with recommendations too such as chutney etc, I am yet to try the wine but I’m sure we will in the very near future!! thank you so much for your help, the cheeses went down a treat!!! ����

Me and my Paps attended a Wine and Cheese tasting night recently and it was absolutely fabulous! I was very impressed with the knowledge and enthusiasm oh and the produce! This is my new favourite place! I was also on crutches when i attended and they ensured I was comfortable the whole night which I appreciated massively. Thank you for your hospitality! Brilliant

I popped in yesterday to get advice on trying a wine a little more out of my comfort zone than what I usually go for. Allan was so helpful and attentive, suggesting a lovely French Chateaux Vessiere Blanc which was so smooth and dangerously drinkable! I let it breathe as Allan suggested, and it got better the more it aired. I was so impressed, I'll definitely be drinking it again. It was great to try something new! Thanks!

Has the best collections of gins I've found in Leeds , such a beautiful atmosphere and place to be in.

Fantastic shop with outstanding service! Sometimes I walk in not knowing exactly what I want, but I always leave with a bottle of wine that is perfect for that evening or a new cheese that I haven't tried before. Really knowledgeable staff who are experts in their field. If you like wine and Cheese, this shop is for you!

Absolutley mad? The prossecco is to die for and no thick head the morning after, went to a cheese and wine tasting evening and loved it my daughter was overly impressed by everything throughout the evening. Cheese wine and all the chutneys and jams are gorgeous.seriously ... get yourselves there. ���
