Wow, what a difference 125 years makes!
If you're a bit of a history geek like us then the below might interest you!
Our Leeds site has certainly seen some changes over the years, home to the original St Anne’s Cathedral back in 1893, the Cathedral was then demolished and relocated just behind us on Great George Street in 1904. 1929 saw the construction of the new development on Headrow, which included ‘Permanent House’, the location for Leeds Permanent Building Society whi...ch was occupied by Leeds Building Society until 1970 when they moved to Lovell Park. During the 1990's parts of the building were occupied by Leeds City Council until finally in 2001 with the opening of new complex The Light, Browns took on the former banking hall and have proudly been here ever since!
We still retain lots of original features such as the wood paneled former Bank Managers Office, now a private a dining room, and original floor to ceiling windows within the main restaurant, which flood the venue with natural light and allow guests beautiful views across to the Leeds Town Hall.
If you're yet to visit us then you are certainly in for a treat and a step back in time! For all booking enquiries contact Suraya Hawkins on 0113 243 9353 or suraya.hawkins@mbplc.com

Up visiting daughter at university, took advantage of the early dinner (before 7pm)on Friday evening. Had a lovely 2 course meal and daughter had voucher for free cocktail. We would recommend the toad in the hole and salted caramel pot. Service excellent, we will be back next time we visit.

I had my hen do here at the weekend. What a beautiful place. The staff were all so helpful and the free moon tea was delicious. Thanks everyone!

Had a most excellent meal at Browns. Three of us had booked and we were shown to our table immediately. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive with a most charming sense of humour which engaged us all - sorry, we never asked your name! The food was delightful and very tasty. My companions were very happy about the food and I was delighted at mine. I don't often get to Leeds, but should I find myself wanting to dine, I will definitely head to Browns for first class service and food!

Had a brilliant and wonderful breakfast here this morning. Excellent food, great service and friendly staff. Beautiful place!

User

User

Fantastic bar with great food. Been here as part of a trip to the theatre, on our daughter's 18th birthday and as a couple on a date night. Always fab service and plenty of choice of food and drink. Highly recommend Browns to anyone looking for somewhere special in Leeds.

User

Excellent service, great menu selection, especially the lunch and early evening 2 & 3 course specials, plenty of choice on the wine menu too. A lovely meal out!

Every time we come to Leeds, we always call in Browns. Me and my husband find it very relaxing and a nice place to wind down. All staff always seem friendly and noligable. We have eaten here, had afternoon tea but normally it’s beer wine or a few cocktails!

When it was closed for the revamp, I couldn’t wait to see what had changed? I was very pleased with the new look, love the colours and decor. We have also been here with family and friends, which also love Browns

Came for my Mums 60th Birthday and had the champagne afternoon tea. Absolutely brilliant experience just what you want for a classy afternoon tea. Easy to book online and served very quickly and seated once inside. Thank you for a memorable experience

Called in today for lunch with a couple of friends. The restaurant was extremely busy (office parties I am guessing) but we enjoyed very friendly and attentive service from our lovely waitress Joanna. My friends both had the fish pie main course, I had the soup of the day starter and the mushroom tagliatelle main course, two of us had dessert (myself the ice cream one of my friends the sticly toffee pudding) plus drinks etc. The food was uniformly excellent and it all made for a very enjoyable pre Christmas experience. We will all be back, and soon I am sure

Been on a couple of occasions for Fizz Friday’s (Where they have bottles of Prosecco on offer) Lovely tasty set meal in lovely surroundings in the heart of Leeds.

User

We enjoy the atmosphere and the menu is good. Your staff are lovely and professional.

The only downside is the lack of changing facilities for babies. The disabled was out of use. I had to use the bathroom floor.

User

My mum and I had lunch here yesterday and although the food was OK (the presentation of the chicken dish could have been better) we were appalled to see that there was a 10% service charge automatically added to the bill.... this proved counterproductive as we would have left more than 10% to our waitress who was lovely and attentive. It is unlikely we will return unfortunately

User

Average would sum it up. Kids had pasta which wasn’t good, both left it all. I had a steak pie which wasn’t exactly bursting with content. I’ve had a lot better for the money.

Went to Browns Saturday 30 June as part of my friends hen party. We were having the afternoon tea. It was an extremely hot sunny day so the waitresses thought it a good idea to sit us in front of one of the huge glass windows instead of seating us at a table further away which was in the shade. When I asked the waitress about the position we were sat in and the fact we were all melting she just said that the window was broken and wouldn't open and that was that. add to that the surly unfriendly miserable looking waitresses and bar staff plus the hot sweaty atmosphere, (if they had invested in a few fans positioned around the room it would have helped) which left me with a headache, it ended up being an extremely unpleasant experience...

We came on Saturday for a friends birthday, there were 6 of us in our party,we had several vouchers which we were told we could use, also Browns had emailed the person who’s birthday it was and offered a free bottle of prosecco,on ordering our drinks we were told we couldn’t drink the prosecco and would have to take it home, also had a voucher for a free cocktail which we were charged for, when ordering our food 2 of the choices were not available,so choosing again, only to be told 2 more things were not available, the food we had was ok,when we called over the manager it was said we could drink the prosecco and it was removed from the bill, also one of the vouchers was used, all in all a very bad first visit, not sure if we will return, maybe just a bad evening

I wanted to rate this as 1 star, the 1 star being given for the stunning opulent interior of Browns and for the appearance of all your waiters/waitresses. But Facebook says 1 star = hatred, it was bad. But not that bad! Booked afternoon tea for two on Browns own or 3rd party booking website. Unnecessary menu selection requirement as the waitress didn’t know why I was there or what menu I would be eating from, so a pointless exercise and did nothing to make us feel welcome. Nevertheless we ordered the afternoon tea with champagne, and asked for two other glasses of champagne to be brought while we wait for afternooon tea to be served. Those two glasses of champagne never arrived. So we sat, drinkless for 25 minutes, until afternoon tea was served, minus side plates, oh and no sign even of the actual 2 glasses of champagne that were supposed to arrive with afternoon tea. They did arrive though, later. And so did the side plates. It took over 10 minutes and 3 waitress trips to our table to serve an afternoon tea that did not live up to the surroundings it was offered in. One of these 3 waitresses was particularly rude when I asked if she knew when the champagne would arrive, in fact, she made ME feel bad for asking, where MY drink, that I ordered, was! Oh, and I had to pay a service charge for it! Bad form and an overall unpleasant experience.
