About Brudenell Social Club

The Brudenell is a lively and fun loving venue that embraces music and art under a wide and diverse umbrella that has no boundaries.
The open music policy believes in freedom and creation and holds the belief that music and expression provide useful social interaction.

The Brudenell is most famous for hosting secret gigs for bands like Franz Ferdinand and the Kaiser Chiefs. However, it has been a centrepiece of the Leeds music scene for a number of years, and hosts gigs most nights of the week, which are put on by a variety of local promoters.
The name Brudenell is said to come from the family of James Thomas Brudenell, who owned Kirkstall Abbey after it ceased to be a monastery in 1539. James Thomas Brudenell was also the Earl of Cardigan. This connection explains why many roads in the Hyde Park area of Leeds are named Cardigan and Brudenell, and therefore how the Brudenell itself got its name.
The Brudenell Social and Recreational Club has a long and varied history and was formed on December 8th, 1913, it bought its first premises and current land shortly afterwards where it is still located today.

Not just about music. . . facilities include, a lounge, Games Room with Snooker Table, 5 Pool Tables, Darts, Table Football, Pinball Machine, A 400 capacity concert room, 2 other private meeting rooms, Sky TV and ESPN showing all the live sports in HD.

Quality Local cask and world speciality craft ales sit alongside well known and accessible brands, all at a fair price.

We also have other local groups whom are situated here, Photography, Film, and even Origami groups meet on regular occasions.

JUST ANNOUNCED - Beak> - Live at Brudenell
Tickets on sale Friday 17th August at 9am Available at all usual good outlets SEE Tickets / Jumbo Records / Crash Records... Dice / Wegot / Ticketweb / Skiddle / and Brudenell.
Beak> are were formed in January 2009 by three Bristol musicians, Geoff Barrow , Billy Fuller & William Young.
Beak> are known favourites of other bands and have been playing alongside Arcade Fire, Savages, Chris Cunningham & The Horrors.
The band have very strict guidelines governing the recording and writing process of their work. The music was recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only using edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a twelve-day session in SOA Studio’s, Bristol. The album is released on Invada Records UK in the UK and Europe & on Ipecac Recordings in the United States.
Sometimes a band can be no more than the sum of it’s parts, but BEAK> are an equation in which it’s impossible to define equivalents or totals. Instead the meeting of three talent’s form a foundation from which idea’s assimilate and propagate. Those talents are:
Billy Fuller. Reared in Bristol, on an aural diet of anything and everything, facilitated later by his time working in the cities top independent record shop Replay Records, and also playing with handfuls of bands – including Invada’s first signing: Fuzz Against Junk, as well as Massive Attack., Robert Plant, and Malakai. Billy is BEAK>’S thoughtful pulse; his bass a forceful origin for their superlative narrative arcs.
Matt Williams. Picked up a Yamaha keyboard aged three and never looked back, as Team Brick creates dissonance that immediately elucidates free forming thought, and impacts heavily on BEAK>’S rolling landscape. He enjoys playing air drums whilst cycling, singing lines from a favourite Latin prayer and doesn’t understand the music he makes himself.
Geoff Barrow. Musician and producer born near Bristol. Best known for forming and producing popular music group Portishead and part owner of the independent record label Invada Records . Commenting on working in BEAK> "its really good to create music under different conditions than your used too.”"

DHP presents...
The Black Queen + Tennis System + Kanga
... £15 ADVANCE (+stbf)
A kind of power synth pop trio, the Black Queen began in casual fashion and developed into a full-blown band treated by its members as much more than an extracurricular project. In 2011, Greg Puciato, Dillinger Escape Plan's vocalist, and Steven Alexander, a seasoned tech (DEP, Nine Inch Nails, Ke$ha), began working on material with one another that deviated significantly from the former's main band. Later in the year, Joshua Eustis (NIN, Puscifer) was added to the fold, after Puciato crossed paths with the multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter at a Puscifer gig. Puciato's interests had long involved electronic music -- his primary band had covered songs by Massive Attack, Depeche Mode, and even Aphex Twin -- and he admired Eustis' output with Telefon Tel Aviv. The two also shared a love for R&B, a genre detectable throughout Eustis' recorded history. Within a couple years, Puciato, Alexander, and Eustis were deeply involved in the Black Queen, living with one another in Los Angeles, and supporting each other through bleak personal matters. In 2015, they debuted the Black Queen with the ballad "The End Where We Start" and quickly followed it with the relatively uptempo "Ice to Never," a pair of singles that were closer in construction to Telefon Tel Aviv's Immolate Yourself than anything by Dillinger Escape Plan. Additionally, these songs featured some of Puciato's most melodic and restrained vocal performances without sacrificing any feeling. Fever Daydream, their debut album, was released in January 2016.

https://www.facebook.com/KRS-One-15357116 7636/ https://www.krs-one.com/ –
When it comes to Hip Hop, no one is as consistent and influential as KRS-One. It is impossible to discuss Hip Hop’s history without discussing KRS-One. His reputation as both a live performer and as Hip Hop’s resident “Teacha” has reached mythic proportions. As author Tavis Smiley has put it; “You are going to encounter a man who has sincerely sought to develop a relevant, honest and contemporary interpretation of world history, culture, religion, and philosophy. In many ways, his work actually rests in the tradition of great thinkers like W.E.B. DuBois, Carter Woodsen, and John Henrik Clarke, men who have sought to develop a cultural veil through which to interpret the seeming insanity of America.”
Throughout his 20 year career trajectory legendary pioneer Kris Parker who goes by the pseudonym KRS-One (Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone) has given fans over a dozen classic Hip-Hop albums, spoke at more then 500 universities/colleges including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Spelman, Howard and Oxford, been nominated for Grammy Awards, received multiple RIAA certified gold and platinum sales accolades and become the definitive source for conscious urban music. Nicknamed “The Teacha” the New York native and acclaimed MC has been honored by the United Nations, Billboard Magazine, The Source, BET Hip-Hop Awards, VH-1’s Hip-Hop Honors and Harvard University to name a few. He has been given the keys to the city in Kansas City, Philadelphia and Compton, was nominated for the NACA 1992 Harry Chapman Humanitarian Award, holds the Reebok Humanitarian Award and three Ampex Golden Reel Awards. KRS One is viewed as the embodiment of the philosophical, sociological and political worldview espoused originally by those that participate in Hip Hop’s culture. He is presently one of the most outspoken leaders of Hip Hop’s politics and tradition. His integration of Hip Hop and metaphysical knowledge resonates throughout his music, lectures, and writings as his powerful presence continues to inspire generations. As Rolling Stone once put it, “He’s one of the most influential lyricists of all time.”

THE SCHIZOPHONICS + guest support...TBA
... 12.8.18 | FREE ENTRY | 19:30 Doors
https://www.facebook.com/pg/TheSchizophon ics https://schizophonics.com/

The Schizophonics are, in one word, EXPLOSIVE. Their frenzied live performances tap into the same unstoppable combination of rock ‘n’ roll energy and showmanship that fueled the MC5 in the heyday of the Grande Ballroom. When they hit the stage, they grab your attention and don’t let go. They’ve built up a formidable reputation in their home base of San Diego and a fervent following among locals. “One of my favorite live bands ever!” proclaims Tim Mays, who has run the Casbah for over 25 years and seen literally thousands of live bands come through his doors in that time. “The Schizophonics bring the goods every time they play,” he enthuses. “Pat Beers is like a cross between Jimi Hendrix and James Brown – yelping, wailing, shralping the guitar with his left hand while gyrating all over the place; Kyle joins in the mayhem on bass and Lety keeps it real behind the kit.”
But the Schizophonics are more than just an outstanding live act, they’re also committed to writing great, memorable songs, a skill singer/guitarist Pat Beers has continued to hone, channeling such influences as Jimi Hendrix Experience, the Sonics, the Stooges, the MC5, James Brown, and Little Richard.
Pat and drummer Lety Beers first met in Casa Grande, Arizona, before pulling up stakes and moving to San Diego in 2008. They formed the Schizophonics the following year, and have worked tirelessly since then, playing literally hundreds of live shows up and down the West Coast, and further afield. A 2013 tour of Spain with El Vez – who had recruited them as his backing group – resulted in the group’s first record release, a three-song 7” EP on the Munster label. In December 2014 they took their act to an arena-sized venue for 91X’s Wrex the Halls concert, on a bill that also included Billy Idol, Spoon, Cage the Elephant, and Interpol. Afterwards 91X program director Mike Halloran declared them, “The most exciting band I have seen in many, many years. They must be seen to be believed.”
In July 2015 the Schizophonics’ second single, “Put Your Weight On It” b/w “Red Planet,” was released on the Ugly Things label. This summer they started work on their debut album at Earthling Studios with producer Mike Kamoo. Their future plans also include a European tour in September and October, this time taking in Spain, Italy, France and England.

Went to see Eyehategod last night. Hadn’t heard of the venue and travelled from Lincoln to see it. The sound in the room was great, it had an intimate feel and is fairly priced. They have some great bands coming though here so this is a place to watch out for some gems. Will be visiting again.

User

Visited the Brudenell again on 2nd of May (my birthday incidentally) to see Tom Clarke. We had a fantastic night, as we always do at this venue despite a bit of a incident in the crowd. Been here numerous times and it remains my favourite Leeds music venue, intimate, small and friendly, much like myself. I'll take every opportunity to return as many times as I can. Love the place

User

Visited brudenell for the 3rd time on 24th November and had a great time. Particularly was impressed with the efficency of the bar staff, was a very busy night and expected to wait for quite a while but only waited at most 5 minutes each time and we're very friendly and the prices were reasonable. Love how organised and tidy the venue is, clearly very well looked after Went to see bad touch in the new extended concert room, absolutely brilliant modern classic rock band who have a great future ahead of them. supported by local band late night legacy who were awesome and mollie marriott who was fantastic. If I had to give a slight criticism It is I struggled to hear the singing at times throughout the gig but heard the music perfectly so maybe the mixing needs slight ajusting, but still my favourite music venue and will find any excuse to visit again.

User

Saw Snow Patrol there yesterday. Absolutely superb. Can’t fault the place. Great to come back after so many years...

User

Never had a bad time there. It is by far the best music venue I know and they even serve delicious pies!

User

My 3rd visit in a few months and love this venue ! Always a great atmosphere and all the staff are exceptional. Great choice of drinks at excellent prices, spotlessly clean throughout, and service with a smile from polite efficient staff. The outside area just adds to the enjoyment on a sunny day like yesterday and the food from 'the van' is tasty and good value. Now seen The Slow Readers, October Drift and Snow Patrol (x2) here and it certainly won't be long before I return looking at some of the gigs they have lined up - keep up the good work !

User

It's a bit out of the way from town, but we've been here a few times now and we really enjoy coming here. Last night was absolutely brilliant seeing Tom grennan and was even better when we got his autograph and I had my photo taken with him,was worth the wait in the queue. Would recommend coming here as it's quite intimate not like a big arena, wherever u are u are really close to the acts

User

I was over from Detroit and went to the Brudenell Beer Festival on the Sunday, watched the Man City vs Liverpool match and had one of those amazing Pieminister pies. One of the highlights of my trip over.

The glasses even made back to Motown in one piece!

User

I visited for the first time on Sunday to see the Dickies. It's a great venue, the sound was great, the shape of the room also means you get a good view, even though I was down near the front. Everyone seemed friendly, and the bar had 'proper ' beer on sale, everywhere nowadays seems just to sell lager and cider! Unfortunately I was driving and had to stick to soft drinks , There is a car park which isn't massive but I was there early and a small charge which wasn't bad. I had an enjoyable night and will definitely visit again.

User

Great live venue, staff always polite and helpful. One recommendation for the likes of me who are registered Disabled. It would be a good idea to have some dedicted seating. I was allowed in first, but when I had been to the bar for a drink, all the seats in the top tear had been taken. I had to ask someone if I could sit down due to my disability which didn’t go down well. Would have been better to have seats dedicated. But allround great gig

User

Great legendary venue with a cult following. The fact that Snow Patrol were there on Saturday for an awesome and intimate performance is a tribute to the enduring success of this down to earth and back to roots venue that is a Jewel in the Leeds crown. Well done Brudenell and well done Snow Patrol for making my weekend. :-)

Came today for cricket, match was delayed by several hours. So we left pubs around cricket and came to your club, for a game of pool and darts. Was were made very welcome, lots of pool tables and darts boards, very friendly staff and cheep beer. Wish there was more clubs like this in the Uk, a proper club!!!!!

User

Been going on and off for years. Love the place, v friendly, rough and ready, seen some unbelievable gigs there. Small, sweaty, loud, good beers, friendly staff. Best venue in the UK.

User

2nd time here. First time was to see the excellent Slow Readers Club and then yesterday was to see Snow Patrol. Brilliant intimate atmosphere with efficient bar staff who took the time to chat. Great pies if you need a bit of grub on the go. Toilets exceptionally clean and tidy which is a rare thing in any venue. Security staff were seen smiling during the snow patrol gig and despite many of us drinking early on the atmosphere was amazing. Can’t wait to visit again.

User

1st visit last night to see King King, great helpful friendly staff. My wife is recovering from a full knee replacement op, absolutely no problem when I asked the girl on the door if I could bring a seat through from the bar for her. Will definitely be visiting again. Acoustics in the new room are spot on. Oh and a great choice of beers.

User

Was here to see the Limamanas, great little music venue with very reasonable priced drinks. Would come here to see another band without hesitation

User

Only giving you a good as I wasn't able to get in to see the band I came for at Leeds Festival as it wasn't possible to pay on the door. I'd written to the venue in advance about this and you couldn't even be bothered to reply.

Venue otherwise looked really great. Need to look into some communications issues though.

User

Visited the venue for the first time to see the brilliant @Marmozets but, as a customer with a disability, found that the viewing area was too small with only room for two wheelchairs and was not properly elevated from the people standing. As there was more disabled customers attending than the viewing area allowed, some of us were moved in front with no protection from the crowd if it had got rowdy. People also stood directly in front of us totally blocking any chance of seeing anything! The venue would have been great if more thought had been put in to the provision of accessible, safe space for #Disabled people. #Marmozets #disabledaccess #access

I was allowed in first, but when I had been to the bar for a drink, all the seats in the top tear had been taken. I had to ask someone if I could sit down due to my disability which didn’t go down well. Would have been better to have seats dedicated. But allround great gig

Been going on and off for years. Love the place, v friendly, rough and ready, seen some unbelievable gigs there. Small, sweaty, loud, good beers, friendly staff. Best venue in the UK.

Was here to see the Limamanas, great little music venue with very reasonable priced drinks. Would come here to see another band without hesitation
