Visited here loads of time really nice pub! Foods lovely most of the staff are friendly, we always buy cocktails theres on guy that works behide the bar that makes amazing cocktails! I think his names callum! Hes the only one that actually seems to put the effort in to make the cocktail you want! Bought the exact same cocktails today different staff isnt half as nice as callum makes.. but overall great pub!

Lovely cocktails and the grazer menu was delicious esp the lasagne fritters & the chicken wings. Lovely staff who was helpful too �

It was my first visit to Wakefield I live in Doncaster my sister lives near so for a change I meet her there we had a lovely meal and a great bottle of wine the staff couldn't have been nicer even opened the big windows as it was a hot day will definitely come back xx

Ist time here since it changed from the gate and what a gem of a place this is, we went for the 2 meals for £7 , a varied choice for this option, also for £1 you could add a starter, pudding or drink or all three as we did, Wasnt really expecting much due to the price but i must say the food was absolutely lovely, We both had mushroom soup to start with, i had cottage pie and my partner had gammon, then we both had apple pie and custard, pepsi to drink and j20, all this for £13, an incredible bargain, i would like to thank the chef and the staff at calder and hops for a fantastic meal and very attentive service. so looking forward to coming back on my next day off .

Had a fabulous night with group from work. Manager was very obliging, all staff very friendly. Good we ordered was excellent and served quickly. Live music just added to the evening and great selection of drinks especially the Gin.

Great pub, friendly welcome and a variety of well kept beers on tap. Definitely one of the better pubs in central Wakefield and well worth a visit.

Great meal and very nice and friendly staff. There was 14 of us and all meals came together not like other places we’ve been to when it’s been staggered. Will be making this our group meeting place ��

Got a real shock when we went in. Hadn't realised it had been refurbished. Our food arrived quickly and was absolutely fine. Good value for money. The San Miguel was chilled and hit the spot on a warm summer night. Will definitely return.

Friendly helpful staff, with top knowledge of making original cocktails, great chilled atmosphere n good pricing on drink and food, all 3 of us would highly recommend food...1 ov best burgers I've had in year's. We now chosen it as r new local

Called in for our second meal,absolutely loved it,We both had scampi and chips,our first visit we had a roast dinner,beautiful meal very well worth a visit.

Been there today for a meal for first time with mrs and was very friendly and service was great the food was beautiful definitely will be going back

Always a great atmosphere, fabulous staff

1st Xmas do yesterday. 30 of us from work. Service food and atmosphere were excellent. The staff are lovely. Thank you from us all x

Loving the new look, bar is better placed than it was previously! Looking forward to trying food in there as the menu seemed good & fairly priced. The prices of our drinks were just a little bit more than others in that area, which I think may put people in the 'just call in for one' frame of mind really... Not quite sure on the choice of music either, obviously not aimed at any particular audience...but all in all, did enjoy it in there, different. :)

Good improvement on The Gate. Good selection of drinks and reasonably priced food. Portion sizes were huge. Would rather have a bit less and a bit better quality food though. What was served was cooked well, but the quality on certain things, eg veg was quite poor. That's my only criticism.

First time here, since it's been given a makeover and must say it's loads better! Food was great and the lady behind the bar was very friendly n polite. Defo a massive improvement and will come again 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Slow service . Food was over cooked. Toilets were untidy and not clean no paper in one !

One bar staff on. Had to wait ages whilst a gang of 10 people ordered 1 drink and 1 meal individually. Couldn't call for help no management onsite.

2 out of the 3 items we wanted they didnt have. Excuse new menu!!!!

No cutlery napkins or sauces brought or even asked if required..

Food was nice just need to perhaps ensure stock levels and ordering of items done better.

Called today at 12:30 ish and don't think we'll come back in a hurry. We waited ages for our food (although it wasn't too busy - I think one person in front of us at the bar) but we had nearly finished our drinks before the food arrived! We also had to ask the server for our cutlery only to be told "we keep them behind the bar and are supposed to give you them before meal"... OK so why didn't she? I ordered fish and chips with MUSHY peas, only to have half a plate of GARDEN peas with the explanation of "we haven't got any MUSHY peas" - just wasted half a plate of food because I didn't get asked if I wanted them as an alternative. I'm sure I'm not the only person who likes one but not the other. NO bread and butter was offered (although it states on the menu that "fish and chips" comes with bread and butter). If that was a LARGE fish, I dread to think what you'd call a "small", the chips were scrappy to say the least and although the food wasn't cold, it certainly wasn't hot either!

understaffed - waited more than 40 minutes for order - only arrived when I went back to ask about it and then it was not very warm.

The meal I had yesterday was leftover Sunday dinner absolutely disgusting the roast potatoes were burnt the Yorkshire pudding was just a ball of grease I use to go in there every week not no more it’s going down hill fast you need new chefs that’s a certainty

Nothing to write home about. The food was poor for 1p short of £8, meat was a bit grisly and fatty, service was slow despite no one else eating at the time I ordered. It was 20 minutes before the food arrived and the inexperienced bar staff almost overcharged me. I doubt that I will go again
