We had set out with the intention of taking dad for his 80th birthday on the Ale trail. Started off here at The Head of Steam and we are still here! He doesn't want to leave. The food was superb, a great selection of ales which the lads are enjoying but a special mention has to go to Vanessa the barmaid, she is awesome. Nothing was too much trouble. A definite asset to this establishment. Dad said he will always remember this day. We will have to leave at some point but it will be by dragging dad away. We are definitely coming back in the New Year.

User

Superb location and selection of Beers.Great Fish Finger Sarnie And very, very pleasnt and helpful Staff.I shall return

User

Really like this place. Nice atmosphere good background music and the beer is fantastic. Although it's getting a bit shabby and dated and the ladies toilets are an absolute disgrace this let's it down badly.

User

If you like proper, well kept beer and friendly and helpful staff then the Head of Steam is worth a visit. I'm only sorry that my visit was so short.

User

Great place serving quality ales, a traditional watering hole that also serves a fairly wide range of really good food, excellent position next to the train station so great for travellers needing refreshment, very helpful staff that are cheerful and knowledgeable, well worth a visit

User

First visit to here yesterday sat 1st July fantastic pub never seen so many beers on 1 room had about 13 casks on in 1 room and other room had 14 kegs on which I will definitely be returning too great place great ales great atmosphere

User

Fabulous place to be for the food fest! Had a great time tonight spent all night with great priced drinks and having a laugh and a chat with the family, been a great day! X

User

Beltin place in marvellous town !

Highly recommended!

User

Warm and inviting on a horrible winters day yesterday. Good range of lovely beers and a lovely friendly barmaid.

User

Very good beer, excellent food, we visit here every year when we have a jolly boys outing on our Xmas do. However, it has to be said that Vanessa makes this place. She always remembers us and makes us welcome and has a great laugh. I must also mention Sue aswell, unfortunately she wasn't working when we visited. Wish I lived nearer, I would be in there every week. Steve

User

Great food, polite and friendly service and excellent selection of beers and ciders.

One huge let down was state of the gents toilets. Smelly is an understatement and one cubicle with a lock but no light...the other with light but no lock. Very poor and a blot on an otherwise lovely bar in an historic building.

User

Good service and food staff very good only let down ladies toilets not in very good condition and need to be cleaner

User

Decent little pub as soon as you get off the train station away fans friendly but no singing football songs or your are barred

User

Beer service and food all good. Given the surroundings it was expensive & considerable more than the other pubs on the ale trail.

User

A great hostess who knows her stuff and a clean and tidy public house. Super beer which suits all tastes

User

Very good starting point from the railway station very friendly local customers good selection of ales if that interests you but sadly poor choice of lagers unfortunately the bar staff left a lot to be desired one oldish lady blanked us twice when we waiting to be served at this time we decided to move on. We had met a delightful local girl [Huddersfield fan wearing colours] Jessica she after having selfies taken took us on a tour of clubs one of which we were treated to discounted drinks the other without paying an entrance fee

User

Been drinking in here since it opened in the mid 90's. This time the beer selection seemed poor, most from Cameron's brewery and very little from local breweries. Although Leeds Midnight Bell was excellent. Menu choice seems to get less everytime we go, no pizza this time, miss the giant Yorkshire pudds and the Head of Steam burger, but again the food was reasonable.

User

£5.15 a pint scandalous, weatherspoons round the corner half the price, pubs in Huddersfield not London.

User

My fourth visit recently. The first 2 times I left after 10 mins with no drink as there was one bar person serving people on 4 bars. The third time , as part of a big group - but the real ale blackboard saying what is on has gone , so took forever to work out what was on and shout back and forth between staff and customer to work out what everyone wanted (the blackboard was there for years for a reason). Forth time got charged £1.50 for a lime and soda!! Followed my £1 for a small bag of crisps. This pub has really lost its way. I used to call in all the time for a pint between trains. New management have apparently got greedy / cut service and increased prices. Thankfully next door has improved a lot ....
