Our young patients were hard at work earlier this month putting together designs for Leeds Cares' Christmas card competition.
Great work everyone, these look fab! Special congratulations to the winners - their designs are being turned into actual cards! 🎄

Make sure you remember to #BeBatteryAware this Christmas.
Button batteries, commonly found around the house in toys and household items such as remote controls and car fobs, can cause serious harm and death in children when swallowed.
Small children are at higher risk to the dangers of these batteries due to their tendency to put things in their mouths. People should be particularly vigilant to button batteries with a diameter of 20mm or more, as they are more likely to get ...stuck in the throat.
If your child does swallow a battery, be sure to take them to A&E immediately.

We absolutely loved welcoming Bake-Off star and all-round wonderful human being Kim-Joy yesterday! 🍪
The GBBO finalist took time out to visit some of our young liver and renal transplant patients on L50.
Kim-Joy helped Nicole build and decorate her own gingerbread house, and offered tips on icing biscuits with Connor and Mohammed.
... Some of our patients will likely be staying over Christmas, so visits like these really do go a long way in lifting spirits. 🎄
A big thank you to Kim-Joy for taking time to visit us! Our patients (and staff) really appreciated it!

Congratulations to our Neonatal and PICU teams for both reaching amazing milestones in patient safety!
The Neonatal team have gone six months without a catheter-related bloodstream infection, and L47 (PICU) have achieved four months without a catheter-related blood stream infection.
Dr Yvette Oade, Chief Medical Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, last week visited the teams to congratulate them for their achievements.
... Our teams have worked really hard to reach these milestones - huge well done to everyone!

Some of our young patients and staff on L50 got a pleasant surprise last week when the cast of Beauty and the Beast turned up!
Belle, Prince Florizel, Philippe Philoppe and other characters from the pantomime hit were on hand to give children on the ward a pre-Christmas treat.
The cast, who were dressed up as their respective characters, went out of their way to chat with young patients and even sang a festive musical number!
... A big thank you to Carriageworks Theatre and the Beauty and the Beast cast for bringing some magic to our patients!
