About Leeds Girls Can

We want the women and girls to feel comfortable in their own skin to get physically active, ignoring gender stereo types and have fun doing so!

Leeds Girls Can Description

Leeds Girls Can is part of the national This Girl Can campaign developed by Sport England together with a range of partners to encourage women to take part in sport.

It is a celebration of women who are doing their thing and donвАЩt care how they look or how red their face gets when playing sport.

We want the women of Leeds to run, roll, move, pedal, swim and shoot for the netball hoop. If you want to try a new sport or get back into a sport that you previously loved now is the time!

We're super proud of Leeds Girls Can Ambassador Kirsty Midgley - Leeds Girls Can Ambassador who has made the finals of the Yorkshirewomenvolunteerawards. Kirsty gives up her time to volunteer as not only a Leeds Girls Can ambassador and run leader at our Kirkstall Couch to 5k but also as a HSBC UK Breeze Champion and ride leader (and a whole lot more too). Well done Kirsty and Good Luck on Friday at the Awards. You're our winner! рЯПГвАНвЩАпЄП рЯЪірЯПљвАНвЩАпЄП рЯСП рЯПЖ

The news last week that Leeds is the first city in UK to lower its childhood obesity rate came just as Leeds Girls Can completed our pilot Young Ambassador Programme.
The young ambassador programme is a scheme aimed at young people aged 14+, targeting those who have low self esteem and have a negative relationship with physical activity. The programme aims to inspire young people to try new things and remove вАШfear of judgementвАЩ when getting active. The programme provides opp...ortunities for young people to take part in a range of activities alongside leading discussions on subjects such as benefits of a sports bra, hygiene, role models and empowerment.
Leeds Girls Can Womens and Girls Activator Libby Cotter, who delivered the programme says that so far the programme has been a success with young peopleвАЩs self-esteem, motivation, resilience and relationship with physical activity all being increased.
Students at Bishop Young Academy in Leeds were the first to pilot the programme and celebrated their success at their recent school Sports Personality Awards. They said they were proud of what their students have achieved and developed not only as individuals but as a team of girls that can be recognise through sport.
We plan to roll out the Leeds Girls Can Young Achievers programme at more schools in the coming months.
