About Leeds University Union Dancesport Club

All things Ballroom and Latin dancing - our club is one of the largest and most popular societies in LUU. We also welcome students and ex-students from across Leeds.

Leeds University Union Dancesport Club Description

After more than 50 years of Ballroom and Latin Dancing in Leeds we provide weekly classes at a variety of levels for all students, ex-students, young adults and anyone who can show a keen interest in dancing! Our classes are taught by former British Sequence Champion, Philip Blackburn. For those who want to test their abilities on the varsity circuit, we attend around eight national university competitions per academic year, providing our members with dance couture and subsidised coach travel. If you're looking for quality dance tuition in a fun and friendly environment with excellent facilities then come along and see what we're about!

We are proud winners of LUU Riley Awards, achieving 'Best Give It A Go' two years running, and 'Best Collaboration' with LUU Street Dance 2012.

What a weekend for Leeds Dancesport at the Intervarsity National Championships 2017, both on and off the dancefloor!
Firstly a huge congratulations to everyone who competed over the weekend, it was a pleasure to watch! It was a long day but the team spirit never died. We had couples for whom IVDC was their first competition, we had couples being partnered up only a week before the competition; everyone had worked so hard to make IVDC a success. The team gave it their all and ...it was great to see!
Well done to all our ex-student competitors for representing us so well this weekend. Their support to the rest of the team during those long breaks between rounds was highly appreciated!
RESULTS Lewis and Frances – 2nd place advanced Latin David and Eefke – Advanced ballroom semi finalists Emma and Richard – 2nd place novice Latin Grace and Fran - Novice Latin semi-finalists Emilia and Natalie – Beginner Quickstep semi-finalists and waltz quarter-finalists Imogen and Chloe – Beginner Quickstep quarter-finalists

Hi dancers!
It's time to get excited for the most important comp for all Northern Universities: the Northern Championships (NUDC)! :D This will be an amazing day out to Birmingham, with sponsored prices to be won. You can also have a try at the Mayfair Quickstep, a very easy fun sequence dance. This means all competitors will dance the exact same steps (so if you forget the steps, just copy the couple in front of you :p ) It's highly recommended to give it a try! See here for...

Look at all those happy faces! 🤗 Last Sunday was a great first competition at Leicester, with a total of 13 couples representing Leeds University Union Dancesport Club. The team danced their heart out, and it was lovely seeing everyone making rounds and seeing the beginners improve as the day went on. They definitely ended the day with a bang by winning the beginners devision teammatch! 🏆🏆🏆🏆 #teamlove #leedsleedsleeds #proud
P.s. Follow us on Instagram (and Twitter) for frequent updates on everything we do! P.s.s. A more detailed post with results has been posted on this page by Eefke yesterday

*If you do not have a partner or your partner is unavailable for this competition, this isn’t a problem! Just message Charlie
**Please note that if you decide not to participate after you entered and the deadlines has passed, you will have to pay £15 unless you find someone to go instead of you
***Due to the scale of the competition, we are looking for some volunteers to help things run smoothly throughout the day. Unfortunately, any wonderful helpers cannot be dancing at the same time i.e. if you are only dancing Ballroom, you would only be able to help during Latin but not the Ballroom section. Please message Nicola if you are able to help and would like to get involved. We massively appreciate any help; you don’t need to be a dancer, just be willing to help on the day. For those willing to help all day there will be no charge of spectators entry or transport and food will be provided; for those helping during one of the sections you will not have to pay for transport.
We wish you the best of luch for your upcoming exams and cannot wait to see you back at classes!
